He didn't want to abolish it. That's not what the Declaration of Independence was for. He wanted to blame the Great Britain for introducing the evil system of slavery to the American continent as justification for why America should declare independence. He of course was vetoed from including this clause. He was a brilliant but complicated man. A treatment to how human beings are so comfortable with contradictions, but he himself even acknowledged the predicament he was in where he knew slavery was evil but he was hopelessly dependent on it for his own financial preservation.
Also it was not congress it was his editors that being Franklin and Adams who like the congress wanted the fire of Jefferson but knew that there were some lines that he could not cross as they could alienate certain colonies (slavery the southern colonies mostly though slaves were in all colonies at the time. Also excessive religion as they were aiming for a more secular document)

@ you probably mean Herbert Hoover because he didn’t do anything to help the Great Depression. FDR made the New Deal that helped the people of the country
It is quite ironic that Jefferson, a white slave owner, would be portrayed by a black man. Whether we like it or not, history must not be omitted, but taught as it is, for we need it to avoid the mistakes our forefathers have done. And I am saying this as a Bulgarian, a member of a people who have gone through two yokes and several ethnic cleansings.
Yeah I was thinking that as I watched this. What would they do about addressing his rape of his slaves? No way he'd be black for that part. Sure, make The Little Mermaid black, no reasonable person will be distraught about it because it's a fictional character whose skin color is of no significance in the story. Jefferson, on the other hand, was a real person who lived through a tragic racial period in US history so to play with his race betrays the historical implications and just makes absolutely no sense.

I don’t think people realize they normally end up cleaning up the country and someone else’s mess to have other people come in later and rattle things up again. This cycle repeats itself till this day and has yet to fail. Even Lincoln was considered radically for liberal for his time. He was very congenial to the modern day democratic party.
That's because the idiots at WatchMojo are liberal unfortunately. Other than that they're a fine channel but now I'll always question everything that they say.
So many of the conservative Presidents have done nothing for the average person. They are only helpful for the rich & the wealthy. What Obama represents in terms of the first black president is very significant, however if you're judging him solely on his performance as president then putting him in the top 10 is comical
Why? Why do you think it’s & I quote “comical” for Barack Obama being one of the top 10? I hope your reasons are not racially motivated.

Fun Fact: In Jefferson's draft of the Declaration of Independence, he wanted to abolish slavery, but Congress omitted it during editing.
Washington is number one. Politics have been a hell hole since.
We riot if Pressident Skroob isn't on the list!
Haha, you do realize many of Mel Brooks' roles were made with the intent to mock bad leaders, I assume?
The man was mocking that unspeakable German dictator at a time where this country still had sympathizers for the Third Reich in goverment

George Washington is #1. The man that could have been king 👑
Let's not forget that the 4th of July is also the birthday of the 30th US President, Calvin Coolidge. He's heavily underrated, but was a good president in my opinion.
A 5x much better president than Obama!
Coolidge is the closest thing we’ve had to a Libertarian president. I appreciate him keeping his mouth shut and just doing his job.
Good president, but some of his economic decisions led to the market crash
Eisenhower and Kennedy were the last back to back successful presidencies
I thought Johnson and Nixon could have been contenders for that claim if it wasn't for the controversies surrounding both the Vietnam War and Watergate.
Nah, I’d say HW and Clinton.
Both veterans, idk why a commander in chief should be some silver-spooned degenerate who are just for profit. Biden was white collar sideline cheerleader and trump avoided the draft like a BUSTER, at least Obama was brought up somewhat relate-able to the middle class. Bush JR did not learn from his veteran father and sent brave men to fight in a hollywood war.
How can you call Kennedy's presidency a success? He was shot in the head. In what friggin world is that a win? The day he died was the day the intelligence state took over our country. We're still fighting today to get it back.

If you only consider Cleveland’s first term. His second term went pretty poorly, hence why he didn’t run for a third (before the 22nd amendment was ratified)
@ fair enough . I rate presidents on how good they led the country .
Personally I think FDR is the best president he got us through the great depression and part of ww2
FDR is the reason we're paying so much into a retirement fund that will never support us. He was a four-term, power hungry, money grabber. He is the reason we have a 22nd amendment.
no, he was a dictator that prolonged the depression
@ you probably mean Herbert Hoover because he didn’t do anything to help the Great Depression. FDR made the New Deal that helped the people of the country
“Emancimation Proclamation” 💀
The musical hamilton, from which this clip came, had a cast that was completely POCs. Washington and burr were also played by black men.

Interesting.........so many of these presidents were liberal 😅
yup and so is watchmojo
I don’t think people realize they normally end up cleaning up the country and someone else’s mess to have other people come in later and rattle things up again. This cycle repeats itself till this day and has yet to fail. Even Lincoln was considered radically for liberal for his time. He was very congenial to the modern day democratic party.
I'm surprised they didn't have Obama as Number one
That's because the idiots at WatchMojo are liberal unfortunately. Other than that they're a fine channel but now I'll always question everything that they say.
So many of the conservative Presidents have done nothing for the average person. They are only helpful for the rich & the wealthy. For example, wages were higher when unions were stronger, but Conservatives continue to try & dismantle them. Conservatives want to take away pensions and other social benefits so they can fund tax breaks for wealthy people and companies. Not saying Liberals are perfect, but they are definitely more for the people than Conservatives are.
Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, John Adam, Ronald Reagan, and Abraham Lincoln are my most favorite Presidents!
