People are leaving Christianity and citing the genocide in Deuteronomy as a motivating reason. Are there any good books for laymen that cover this topic? It reminds me a little of William Lane Craig's idea that the Genesis creation account is written in an ancient literary genre called mytho-history. I think the time may be right for Christians to revisit the issue of old testament literalism. It would be good to see more discussion and debate and resources in this area. You should write a book. I can't believe this only has 263 views, it deserves more.
So what is Deuteronomy or are those books mentioned? Did some scribe named Josiah compile some random scrolls telling about a people before his time, rewrite it all the way he wanted, and injected these revolutionary beliefs in a monotheistic ideals and how to worship into the text, then later were they called the names we know them today? Or?
