    Though he is not playing Mozart, Bach, Brahms, or any particularly difficult piece, you all should acknowledge the fact that he is playing by ear. That alone is a gift and an amazing musical talent. Most of you would probably KILL to have that ability, I know I would. Maybe all the music connoisseurs out there who posted highly negative comments, should retract their statements. Rock on Nathan!!! You have been given a true gift!

    I hate when people say a child is "gifted" when they have no idea how many hours and hours of practice it took to get to that level. "Gifted" implies it was given by some higher power, and completely ignores all of the hard work musicians put in to become talented.

    • @nemesi8800
      @nemesi8800 8 лет назад +1

      Well to be honest. when they say gifted, you can't really practice listening to music then playing it straight away, people need to learn how to play songs and read sheets. Even the pros can't ALWAYS play something nearly perfect by ear. They can get close but a teenager doing it is remarkable.

    • @justice4all907
      @justice4all907 7 лет назад +2

      my autistic Son sat down at a piano for the first time in his life. He is 7. He played music that would melt your heart. It wasn't a particular song but notes he put together himself. I do believe in gifts!!

    • @andrewc0128
      @andrewc0128 7 лет назад

      Justice 4All I have no doubt that is sounded perfect and beautiful to you. If I had a child, it would sound so to me also.
      However, when people determine an ability it is always compared with the great performers who came before, so there are certain "rules" that the performance is graded on. If a person were able to perform well according to those rules without any training at all, then it would be considered a gift. For example, a person who sees a piano for the first time ever in his or her life being able to play any of Chopin's songs after hearing it once. That would be a gift.
      I am not taking anything at all away from your son and the beautiful music he plays at all. I am sure it brought you tears of joy, as it would for any good parent.
      I just don't believe it is fair to those who practice for hours, days, weeks, months, years and even decades because of their endurance and sacrifice in learning their trade.
      In your case though, I can only imagine the pride, joy and heartfelt emotion you feel when your son plays. I SOOO wish I could feel that too :)

    As the father of two sons with autism, one non-verbal, I just wanted to say thanks. Your video was so inspirational. While most with autism are not savants like Nathan, everyone… regardless of their abilities has something to share in this world. Sometimes it’s as simple as the change for the better that they make in their caregiver or the people who take the time to know them.

    This is amazing:) both of my brothers also have autism, both are very talented and speak normally. Autistic people in many cases seem quite "normal", but just have little quirks that some might find odd. I personally think of it not as a disability, but as a gift that if properly managed, can open up possibilities that the average person couldn't believe.

    Give the boy some Erroll Garner. Erroll is perhaps the greatest jazz pianist ever, and he didn't read music. The subconscious is sharp and that is why autistic kids can thrive. I know, I was boarder line autistic during my youth and music came very easy to me. As an adult I am finally stretching my boundaries and learning to sight read so I can play anything I want without going into some sort of zone. It's amazing what is there for you when you learn to sight read and you have natural ability!

    why are there so few comments on how fantastically listenable he is? His voice has a toned rasp and he accompanies himself flawlessly. Such an amazing talent, just listen to the kid sing and stop arguing about everything. Sit back, calm the fuck down, and just enjoy his talented performance. But shoutout to the guy who commented about buying him a piano. Whether he has one or not (can't imagine he doesn't) you're the real MVP for wanting to help rather than start an argument on youtube.

    It is sad that there is so much ignorance about those who are autistic, especially those who are non-verbal. My friend is mute and she was denied from donating blood because she is mute. However, she started a petition on change.org against her blood bank. To sign it go to the website and type in hcbb.
    She showed me that we can stop this ignorance and discrimination. Each and every one of us can spread stand up for ourselves and others and spread understanding and awareness.

    I am glad the public is showing how gifted people with autism can be. I have asperger. In some ways it is crutch and in other way it is a gift. The main reason I think it is gift is because of the lack of public understanding about asperger and other form of austim. Perhaps in this decade the public will learn to understand and be compassionate toward people with austim and other forms of "not normal" traits. I have a lot to offer the world, if the world will be me a chance.

    Often artistic people are incredibly gifted in some form of the arts or mathematics, the brain filters out all exterior influences so they can focus everything in their brain on one thing and one thing only, which allows them to succeed far more then any of us ever could. Is a very large spectrum of artistic people, it’s always fascinated me how the brain works, and how we labelled these people in the past, when in fact they were actually extremely gifted and brilliant in some respects, but are so deeply lacking in other respects. In either case, they still deserve the same respect as everybody else, and I think sometimes They deserve more respect than some of us, because of the battles that they face every single day of their lives, yet still can perform miracles like this young man! I pray to God he has a happy and long the future in music, and I’m jealous as all hell, I’m 48 and I can’t play half as good as he can! LOL!
