- We batted around the idea of purchasing a portable countertop ice maker for your small home for many months.
We are only 1 week into our purchase of an Insignia (Best Buy) brand of our ice maker. So far, we are pleased!
We love the amount of ice that this machine produces...about 1 lb of ice for every 16.9 ounces of bottled water that I pour into the reservoir. It is fast and fairly quiet. Yes, it makes noise, and I talk about this in the vlog.
This is not a paid endorsement.

The icemaker is still chugging along! Seriously working well after about 1.5 years.
Thanks for the review! My sister is a huge ice lover so I want to get this machine for her for Christmas
It will make a wonderful gift! I am nearing the 1.5 mark with the machine and it works great.
@@the60ishcreative57 that’s great to hear! I went ahead and placed the order for one! Can’t wait for it to arrive! Also, my comment was full of typos so I went back and fixed it haha
@@PMB827 Ha! I am freelance writer. I am always going back and correcting my typos in comments! Glad you bought one, and I hope your sister loves it!
@@PMB827 Did your sister like her ice maker?
@@the60ishcreative57 she loves it! It works like a charm!
Wanted to interject that the Insignia Countertop ice maker continues to belt out ice. We are quite pleased with the machine!
And it is still chugging along! Doing a great job!
Thank you for a clear, succint review. For some reason, youtube has too few of these
You are welcome, Elle!
Great video
Thank you. For anyone new to reading this thread, the ice maker is still doing a great job.

@@echo6sierra Yay!!! I hope you continue loving it.
Mine lasted 1 year
I just ordered Me one.
Excited..
I hope you like it too!
Good to see your machine is still working well after several months. My question is, in your personal experience, how long does it take to make a single “batch” of ice from the time you plug in your machine, fill it with water, and turn it on? For example…if you’re planning to have a couple cocktails, how far ahead do you have to plan?
The manufacturer states that it takes approximately 8 minutes to make a single batch of ice. I live in SE Texas, and on a day like today, with a heat index of 102, the timing of the batches can stretch out to10-11 minutes. When the ambient temperature is cooler, 8 minutes is a good estimate. Within an hour, enough ice is produced to fill two average cocktail glasses (and in the right conditions, much more ice). I have learned to fill the machine to the full line with water and walk away. It is an amazing machine in that respect.
Thanks for the review 👍
You are welcome! Thank you for your comment.
Is the machine suppose to be on all the time to maintain ice cold? And water always full?
need to put a measuring tape or ruler for ice size comparison, ty
Great idea, thanks! I'll add that to a comment or in the description (if I can).
What have you found is the best way to clean/ or what the cleaning requirements are?
The cleaning instructions are: 1 Unplug the ice maker. 2 Take out the ice basket. 3 Clean the interior with diluted detergent, warm water, and a soft cloth. 4 Use clean water to rinse the inside parts, then drain the water by unplugging the drain cap on the front bottom side. For the most part, I simply wipe it down with a damp clean cotton cloth. It does not build up with any gunk or dirt. Thanks for asking!
My ice taste funny
I've only experienced different-tasting ice when I used well water (hard water in Texas) in the machine once. I always use bottled water otherwise.
Is the machine supposed to be on all day to keep ice from melting? And water level always full?
The ice in the bin will melt if you do not empty the bin and place the ice in your freezer. The water level does not always need to be full for the ice maker to make ice. It just needs enough water for it to operate. I do not have the ice maker on all of the time. I store my ice in gallon-sized zip lock freezer bags. I only run the ice maker when I need to replenish my supply. Thanks for asking!
@@the60ishcreative57 so the water recycles itself back into the ice making tray? Trying to figure this out as I want this for my work office and can't store the ice in my mini freezer
@@prima2774 The machine dumps the ice that it makes into a basket. If you do not use the ice, it eventually will melt and drip back down into the water reservoir for making more ice. As the ice machine goes through it's 'making' cycle - It continuously makes ice until the basket is full, and then the machine shuts itself off. Once you empty the basket, it is matter of leaving the machine shut off, or depressing the on button to start the ice making cycle again.
