Do you know what is living around you? No? Don't worry. Most people don't. We have had our 2 boys out in nature since they were born. When they got old enough to chose what they wanted to do with their time, it was be outside, to be in the wood. So naturally when it come time to homeschool that is what we did. We did most of our school outside and we still do. Our homeschool guiding principal is to step back and let our children take the lead. I guess you could call us "unschoolers". We believe our children learn best when we take the back seat and let them learn about what they are into, what's important to them. Isn't that how you learned? We all do. In todays video we are going to be doing just that. Fen loves animals, hunting and he likes to track animals so today are taking a walk through the woods, immersing ourself in the environment to learn about what is living beside us. When you walk though the woods, if you look close enough you can see all kinds of signs that tell you what is around you. From a rolled over rock, a broken tree limb, a pile of animal poop and foot prints on the ground. And those foot prints on the ground are what we are focusing on today. We are going to be doing a bit of homeschool science, a piece of a nature unit study, and we are going to be casting animal track. We will be identify what animals are living beside our house. This is a quick, easy and inexpensive craft for kids of all ages to do and it doesn't require much. You just need some cardstock, tape, crafting plaster, some water and a bowl to mix it in.
