WOAH man....2min for what? Those thin meats go in for about 2-4 seconds depending if it's beef or lamb. Did you guys really leave them in there for 2 min? LOL
The first time I ate haidilao around 3am in Beijing in 2003 . In that time not so much expensive like 5dollor/ per person and every student can afford it
@@p_eppermint For a spicy pot, sesame oil + mashed garlic will be superior. You can also add cilantro or scallion as you wish. For non-spicy ones, my preference is seafood sauce + peanut sauce + little bit sesame oil + chilli oil + cilantro/scallion.
It’s crazy coming back watching this & seeing how much you’ve built your spice tolerance! I love rewatching your videos & your journey growing as a foodie! ☺️
David, you should dip the meat in the soup for 30 seconds and can enjoy it. No more than 30 seconds, it'll be tough. You should dip the boiled meat in the hotpot dipping sauce to get the full experience of hotpot.
Caesar, you beat me to it, I was going to tell him the same thing. But eating hot pot suppose to be hot, spicy, and numbing that's the experience. But the best way to cool the spicy taste for people is to ask for some rice.
Hii David 😁.....I'll say dat u r a lucky or I can say a fortunate person who travelled not onli d world but also tasted and showed us the various types of food that are totally beyond imagination for some people to think of 👌👌....u r always my favvv, as I say always in d comment box 🤪...love frm 🇮🇳
the fruit and cold dishes in the sauce area is free. There are more than 20 kinds of sauces (garlic, soil sauce etc) in the sauce area. It is better to dip the food in the mixed sauce.
Great video! But I think it's important for people to know this: Please don't put the meat in the boiling hotpot for more than 30 seconds (actually I would say 20 seconds is sufficient)... unless you are making some sort of jerky. This applies to all the thinly sliced hotpot meat dishes.
You totally missed the sauce bar. You need to make a bowl or two of sauces for yourself. Then after boiling the mean or vegi, you can dip them in the savory sauce you made.
If you plan to go to Hai Di Lao again, you should get the dipping sauces which usually are displayed near the entrance. They have a variety of flavors and sauces that you can DIY and pick as many as you want based on your own preference. It can help reduce the spiciness and add additional flavor to the food.
Hi di Lao is famous of their services, anything you ask they will do for you, because they have a team for design all services for guests. As I know, free manicure, snacks and drinks, games etc. some services I used: glass cleaning, cell phone cleaning, shoes cleaning
I'm missing they way u used to say oh!!! Ohhh!!! It's spicy ummmm!!! The tomato chatni is so good, chapati, puri, sabzi, smashed potato curry 🤣 Come to India again and explore more foods and places.
I didnt see you had clear braces on before .Best way to go on those. Food is amazing and so good. Beef is so tender and yummy.. Awesome experience :) ♥
Fun video. Nea seems cool. But, you should have recorded her speaking Mandarin. I like Nanjing Road. It's a fun place to hang out and there's so many. I mean so many options for food. That hot pot looks killer.
Haha, you forgot the sauces. There are free fruits and Liangcai, something like Chinese salad too. Don’t forget the sauces next time, they are so delicious.
@@Davidsbeenhere no its okay to eat your way as you had flavoured soup, I have hot pot at home just using boiling water so need to dip it for some extra flavour. Not used to spicy hot not, but cambodian version we use satay soup mix for the spicy soup hot pot.

Hi David, thank you for the video. What month is this? it look like it is cold weather? I am going to Shanghai in July this month, I wonder what is the temperature look like now?
The right way to eat hotpot must have sauces, so it can become many many diffierent tastes. In HaiDiLao, there is a table placed many kind of sauces, you can take them by yourself, it is self-service.
You guys had the hot pot in the wrong way. We dont eat like that, we eat it with sauce. There is a sauce station there, you can have different sauces there according to your preference.
Heyhey David!!! you are missing big time not having the dipping sauce especially the sesame sweet dip sauce mixed with garlic and stuff~~ by dip it in can not only enhance the hot pot meat and veggies' flavour but also buffer the spice down a bit! That's how our Chinese eat hot pot~~
David if you are open to experiences we can go enjoy some night life at KTVs and see the other magnificent side of Shanghai. Wonder how it would come out in your vlog. :D
Hey David.. Is there any chance that we'll be seeing pandas in your vlogs?? 😁😁😁 I kinda want to see them in your videos. Plus did you go to the country side? How's the rural lifestyle of China🤔🤔

Cooking the meat in hotpot for 2 minutes is blasphemous. For me personally more than 10 seconds the meat is uneatable.
David, you should dip the meat in the soup for 30 seconds and can enjoy it. No more than 30 seconds, it'll be tough.

Can you recommend what to put in the dipping sauce?
Ahh bro that spice looks lethal! I am trying to adjust to the food here in INDIA 🇮🇳 and it is very hard! Spicey foods just don’t work well for me! 😂👍
jajaja yea this is numbing :)
Actually you have to make a sauce from selected ingredients for dipping the cooked items

I did that the first time I went to Haidilao. Big mistake. I had a Sichuanese guy in front of me and he was eating like it was nothing.
We Chinese dip the boiled lamb into sauce. The restaurant offer a lot of sause you can chose.
