JTBC 해외 미디어 취재팀은 2023년 1~2월, 두 차례에 걸쳐 해외 주요 미디어를 찾았습니다. 전 세계 미디어 전쟁의 중심을 취재하기 위해섭니다. 먼저 복스·인사이더·서브스택 등 각 분야 주목받는 뉴미디어를 탐방했습니다. 모바일 미디어 시장을 주도하는 그들의 전략은 무엇인지 살펴봤습니다.
ABC·BBC·CNN 등 전통적인 레거시 미디어 강자들을 방문해선 이들의 성과와 시행착오 등을 되짚어봤습니다. 로이터저널리즘연구소·블룸버그 애널리스트 등을 만나 업계 전반에 대한 진단을 받기도, 유튜브 공동 창업자 스티브 첸·AI 미디어 기술업체 등에게 인사이트를 구하기도 했습니다.
'변하지 않으면 사라질 것이다.' 전략은 저마다 달랐지만, 각오는 하나였습니다. 이 모바일 다큐멘터리에, 현장에서 보고 들은 것들을 생생하게 담았습니다. '디지털 길라잡이'들의 숨겨진 이야기와 취재팀의 고민을 녹인 결과물입니다. 레거시 미디어는 앞으로 어떤 길로 나아가야 하고, 또 어떻게 바뀌어야 할지. 함께 논의하는 장이 마련될 수 있으면 합니다.
Someone says 'Legacy media is over'. This means people no more watch TV or read newspaper to get news. Smarthphones made one-person media, and it threatens legacy news media. What about ChatGPT. It gives us the fundamental question whether the media industry itself can survive. In this rapidly changing era, how should the media respond in order not to lose audiences?
To find the answer, 'JTBC overseas media coverage team' visited major overseas media in January and February 2023. We wanted to cover the center of the global media war. First, we visited emerging new media that such as VOX, Insider, and Substack. We looked at what their strategies are leading the mobile media market.
We also visited traditional legacy media such as ABC, BBC, and CNN and reviewed their achievements and trials and errors. With Reuters Journalism Institute and Bloomberg analysts, we received diagnosis on the overall industry, and also sought insights from RUclips co-founder Steve Chen and AI media technology companies.
'CHANGE OR DIE.' The strategy was different for each of them, but the resolution was the same. In this mobile documentary, we vividly captured what we saw and heard. It is the result of melting the hidden stories of the 'digital guides' and our concerns. What path should legacy media take in the future, and how should it change? We hope there will be an open discussion with all together.
