Confession time: My grandfather served as a medic in the SVC. "Officially", he was supposed to go to Bahau, but there's no official record of him being there. I figured he confused the Japanese by also sending his brother to Bahau. When I was 5, my grandfather told me that he was trained by the British to go at a certain time and place to build punji traps and attach bayonets to tree vines, i.e. insurgency work. All my granduncles served in the SVC. My granduncle Cyril, in particular, buried the bodies at Changi beach before he was attached to a Highland Regiment and given the marching orders to the Death Railway. Uncle Cyril said that no matter what soap you used, it took 3 days to get rid of the stench of rotting flesh.
I was the one who suggested re-starting the Volunteer Corps during the Eurasian Conversation with Minister Iswaran. They definitely took my words to heart. Thank you!
Interesting. My grandfather told me the story of how he was taken on a lorry by the Japanese as a young boy/man (probably Operation Sook Ching), but he jumped out of the back and escaped. If he didn't jump I wouldn't exist today.

I feel like SAFVC is made to mock the Nsmen and NSF.
SAFVC lasts for a month. At most. The Nsmen and NSF need to serve for 2 years, complete 10 sessions of NSfit, prepare for yearly Mod Manning and actual Reservist.
Im so jealous of those female and pc who join safvc😢
I mean they are just volunteers, meant to assist. Main responsibility of defending is still on the NSmen and NSFs. Can't compare. Our defense readiness is also aren't at a near/ war level also
