Hey Matty. Good video! The 1st tip (splitting the bass frequencies) is powerful. It allows a lot more control over the specific frequency ranges in your sound that you can't achieve from splitting the frequency range from a normal multiband compressor. Once you have the frequencies split between multiple tracks, you open up a lot of creative opportunities such as adding distortion (saturation) to only part of the frequency range. Is the finger digging to hard into the bass strings? No problem! Just pull the fader down for that frequency range. I love your content. Keep up the great work bud!

Your videos are never a waste of time, great to see you do the same stuff I do in a mix. Now I feel a little bit better believing I’m not totally wacko but makes me feel a little less special at the same time 😂

When adding extra low end I like Louder Than Liftoff - Chop Shop. It’s like a modern cleaner Bob Power kick technique thing.

Using a minimum/“natural” phase crossover is going to introduce a static phase shift in the bass. This may or not be desirable but it will certainly be an artifact of the splitting process.
Alternatively, linear phase will sum perfectly without artifacts and you are very unlikely to get pre ringing.

What's the advantage to splitting the high and low passes into 2 seperate tracks when you could just use a high/low shelf to get the same effect?

By splitting the high and low pass filter into 2 tracks you can process each frequency range differently. On the low frequencies you can add some saturation. Then process your upper frequencies separately by adding chorus for some stereo width.
By adding a high or low shelf on an eq, you're only turning up or turning down the level of those frequencies. But you don't have the additional control as if each frequency range was it's own separate sound.

You can put the DI on the low split and use mic + amp on the high part.DI usually gives more low end, and you can saturate the amp part more or less depending how dense the music is which makes the bass more audible without affecting volume / compression.

Thank you for the great video and the valuable information👍. I have a technical question about the video quality. I noticed some issues with the frame rate (it seems to skip frames) and color grading in this video. What changes were made? Your earlier videos had a smoother frame rate. Also, I appreciate how you enhance viewer engagement with zoom effects and alternating between camera shots and screen recordings.

LOL. I have quite a bit, and I think plugins are just as good if not better at this point.

A £79 plugin that is emulating a £3000 piece of hardware obviously sounds exactly the same so might as well save £2921 .@@mixedbymatty
