I figured there was some kind of newborn calf smell that was attracting Schnitzel. Really hurt to see him try to play with the other dogs, though, only to be brushed off. I hope he gets a playmate. Being lonely is a really sad life for a friendly dog.
The other dogs were ignoring him because he was too high energy. Any dog behaviorist would probably agree. Dogs will do that, if there was a dominant dog there it would have corrected the dog because high energy can lead to fights in a pack.
He’s annoying.
Catherine and Scott are my aunt and uncle and they got another dachshund not long after this was filmed (this was filmed a really long time ago) and schnitzel and the other dog ruby got along really well and even had puppies together
From what I've heard, Dachshunds are a highly social breed and they do best in packs. If the bigger dogs aren't accepting Schnitzel into their pack, he needs another smaller dog - particularly one of his own breed - to bond with.
You are absolutely right! People need to consider the breed they are choosing to ensure it fits with what the family can provide.
My friends used to have a dachshund but he soon became very depressed so they also adopted his brother and he immediately picked up and became the most happy and excited dog and I think this is a really good example of how Dachshunds are like pack animals and need friends and they don’t do well alone
My dachshund loves playing with my 2 puppies that are bigger than her. She is like Velcro and wants to be everywhere I am. I’m on disability so she doesn’t stay home that often. She’s either with me or watched by my mom or inside when I go on errands or dr appts. My first dachshund. She even sleeps under the covers with me or the recliner or couch
Or just the piglets
You are right and therin lies the problem..people get a certain dog mainly for aesthetics..what they look like or always wanted one etc.. Dachshund means Badger Hound..and they were used to hunt badgers..they are indeed a pack animal and used to working..they are a very social breed and like to be where any action is whether it be fuss..fun..walks etc they do not like to be on their own..we always had dogs dachshunds of course and cats..the cats usually bigger than the dogs and they all slept together changing from one to the other.. they can get destructive if you don't use up their energy or stimulate their mind whether thats with play or walks people think oh only little dogs don't need a walk..wrong these dogs can walk forever.. I just wish people would search for the right dog for their lifestyle not how they look or the latest trend and you MUST make sure they have ramps if they are allowed on furniture as they can obviously have a history of back trouble which could result in paralysis.. now I hope that hasn't put anyone off because they are indeed loving special dogs and love a structure so with the right insentive..usualy chicken or fish you can train them to do so many things..unfortunately due to health issues i cannot walk a dog anymore so i just have my cats now but i do miss my dachshunds ..
Even though Dr.Chris has a Vet practice in one of the largest cities in the world Dr.Chris has traveled and treated animals all over the world often under third-world conditions with no equipment...I would never describe him as a City- Slicker Vet! Chris has often had to improvise by going to the hardware store for solutions to treat animals! Kudos to Dr.Chris he is an amazing Vet and all-around top-notch human!
Yep Chris grew up in the country and always gives back to his roots!
And one time he went to a craft store to improvise clips to hold a turtle shell in place
Bondi Vet is right. Pretty sure Dr. Chris grew up on a farm. I remember him saying so on an older episode regarding a donkey his family owned. I believe his father was a vet too.

@@quillpen815 yes u r correct his Dad is a vet too!
Dogs are social, you can't just leave them alone all day.
I lived in the country side all my life and our dogs were alone when my parents were at work and us at school. They are animals, really social yes but a dog doesn't need constant supervision. People are treating dogs like babies. They are stronger mentally than you think
@@anthony3032 its not about needing supervision or strength of mind. It is about being kind to them...just because an animal has survived, even with flying colors, something we've done to them, does not make it kind.
@@teddycuda when did I said that? As a matter of fact all of our dogs growing up were rescued. But that's not the point.
@@anthony3032 how many dogs did you have at one time? I’m pretty sure what teddycuda is trying to say is that most dogs don’t do well left completely alone. For example, when one of my dogs passed, the dog left behind barked and cried and paced all day while we were at work. When we were able to, we got a puppy and now they are both completely relaxed and usually napping while we are out. Some dogs, especially when raised that way, are completely fine alone, but some just aren’t.
I have a Velcro dog. The more I learn about dogs the more I think breed has a lot to do with it. I know my velcro dog is like that to begin with and I cater to him so I make him more of a velcro dog but he is a Chihuahua and weiner dog mix. And I am definitely not surprised he is a velcro dog after meeting more Chihuahuas and datchunds
My Uncle had a Dachshund that had an obsession with Porcupines, which necessitated frequent trips to the Vet.
Haha that's not a good combination!
Did he /she get quilled?????
@@mariaconway405 Yes, it was terrible. He just couldn't leave them alone, even after 4 run ins. After the fourth time, we didn't let him off the leash outside. I'd say it was our fault..we didn't know there were Porcupines around here at first. They pack a punch!😱
They need to give schnitzel another Dachshund to play with something that's on his highs level that he can interact with.
Spot on! Social breeds need compatriots, if the farm dogs aren't interested, then he needs another family dog to interact with!
Absolutely!
Completely right they can become very depressed 😭 if left alone
Looking forwards to the follow up! ✌😊
Was really interesting to see Chris psychoanalyse the little doggie, he seems very caring so another little dog even female so they could have a litter, I bet his paternal skills would shine! 😉🐶🐕✌
Catherine and Scott ( my aunt and uncle) did get another dachshund who was a female called ruby and did eventually have puppies and this was filmed a really long time ago as well
I think it’s quiet sad because the little dog just wants so friends
I feel like him sometimes. I just wanted to hug him
this poor poor dog, he's desperate for a friend but no one is giving him a chance and I have a feeling that this dog may have been brought up as either a single pup or without parents of the same species because his behaviour is so desperate and overly anxious that I wonder if he doesn't understand how to connect with others? unless of course it's just a stressful environment which it probably is
Poor Schnitzer.....anyone who is misunderstood gets labeled as being mad.....the reality is that ignorance breeds insanity.....there was a very sound rationale for sausage pups strange obsession. Kudos to Dr. Chris for educating Schnizter's family. Clearly, they love him to pieces.
Schnitzer just wanted to be friends!!🤣🤣
I LOVE chris he is caring, funny, cute, kind, and cute!!!🥰🥰🥰
You got that right
And that accent is DREAMY AF
@@queenof3790 YESSSS i LOVE his accent!!😍😍
Don’t forget handsome as hell!
@@deborahahonen6949 ain't that right!!😍😍🤣
It's a shame that they needed to call dr Chris out for something that should have been obvious. Taking him inside the house so he could get attention while they're home would have helped, hes just a lonely little doggie that needs a pack, heres to hoping hes happy now with a new friend.
Dachshunds love to be involved, they're small but adventurous; I've had a few. They need to get a smaller pup to keep him company.
It's not "Daschund", like they wrote in the title. It's "Dachshund". Pronounced "ducks-hoont". From the German word for badger ("Dachs") and dog ("Hund"). They were called badger-dogs because with their short legs they were small enough to run into badger burrows and help their owners hunt for them.
Very cute story. Clever Dr Chris triumphs again!
I wonder if it’s a dachshund thing? My miniature dachshund became obsessed when my cat had kittens. It was great for Mama when she got the dog to babysit while she had some “Mom time”, but then the dog started taking a kitten off by herself when Mom wasn’t getting her to babysit. I ended up putting Mom and the kittens in a bedroom that used to be my daughter’s before she moved out then putting a box spring across the doorway so Mom could get out when she wanted but the dog couldn’t get in.
There's a video of a rescue farm where a corgi is everyone's surrogate mother. He kind of goes overboard, but at least they're getting attention.
Oh, she wants a puppy of her own.
I think that metal dog cage is cruel! Especially in Australia as hot as it gets. Who would even keep an animal in something like that? Horrible!
Dr Chris is the consummate professional AND so kind. I love this show and it makes me hopeful that we can all learn to care better for animals.
Why couldn’t the owners see that Schnitzel was be rejected by the other dogs and just get another little dog that he could play with? 🤔 What a unique obsession but understandably so.
Vicks what a deterrent though.😂
Oh I love Chris, he's a good bloke. Love you Chris.
I don't like that man. That guy is a jerk the way he talked to and treated Chis. Total disrespect. The mocking, "You da Master." He was also a jerk to his wife telling her that he would "catch" the newborn calf and she could wash and Vicks it. And the way he picked Schnitzel up to put him on the 4-wheeler?! 🤬 Yeah. I don't like that man. You would think after seeing that their other dogs won't play with Schnitzel that it would have occurred to them that he needs a friend. And that box cage they have is like a torture chamber for animals in the Australian sun.
Thank you! I thought I was just being particular. Glad it wasn't just me.
Totally agree
Hmm, a big fan of Alan Alda types, are you? You are welcome to the ultra-sensitive, apologetic liberal men with buns you seem to crave. It's obvious you haven't spent much time around cattlemen, and quite frankly, you wouldn't last a minute. Since you can't tell when someone's joking, for God' sake, stick with the sidewalk cafe types. The wife didn't look abused, nor the kids, and the Schnitz adores him.
@@lucygray6162 Nah! the guy's an abusive a**hole, arrogant as f. Of course the wife and dog didn't act like they were abused, victims often don't, ever heard of Stockholm Syndrome. That cage out in the full sun and getting picked up by the scruff of the neck, that was enough for me.
@@lucygray6162 it doesn't take a genius to realise why he wont be the first pick of most people.
There are some insecurities in him that needs some changing and might I say, a clear lack of common sense.
And please, there are cattlemen that act much much better.
Don't say cattlemen are all like that as if they are an entire breed of different species Lmao.
If you like men a bit slow then go for it. Joking and rude are two different things btw. That kind off attitude won't work in the cities but is propably bearable in rural areas cause the amount of people you have access to is limited so you take what you get.
Always any video with Dr.Chris is a winner. ❤🐶😎
This is similar to a post I see about a rescue pitty and a rescue bull. They really are best friend's 🤗🤗🤗🤗🐕🐄
This looks like it's going to be a good one!
Good eye Celeste 😉
I would take schnitzel in a heartbeat. He’d never be alone again. He’s too precious to be left alone the way he is 😢
When you get kittens they tell you to get them in pairs so that they have a playmate
Littermate syndrom in dogs is a real thing. Not recomended for first time owners.
Can I just say that Catherine and Scott are my aunt and uncle and they bought another dachshund not long after when this was filmed because I was really little when this was made because my cousins ( Ben Jake and Harry) were really little and they are pretty much all out of school now. Unfortunately schnitzel passed away at around Christmas last year but the other dachshund ruby is still happy and healthy and turned 12 today and ruby and schnitzel got along really well and also had puppies a few years back
Is anyone else bothered by the chained up calf? Schnitzel needs a playmate of his own size and type. That family has the cutest animals.
They are probably veal calves.. 😞😭 They keep them tied up to reduce muscle development to keep the meat tender. I can't stand it and it breaks my heart 💔
@@audunique6905 Why are you making such a big accusation when you saw a five-second clip
@@junebaliros2983 Because that’s what they do for veal.
@@kaelinb2438 there's a possibility but you cannot be completely sure by only watching a video with no actual proof
These guys are so obnoxious. He drags Chris out there without his box of stuff, apparently to get out of paying, Chris catches the calf, makes do with what he's got and braces the calf's broken leg. Apparently this guy usually just lets the broken legs just "flop around". Then he's got the gall to say Chris gets a 55%. Well, this guy gets a big FAIL on everything. He's got no business judging the vet.
I thought he was incredibly obnoxious! And I wanted to attack him after he picked Schnitzel up by the ruff!!!
And Chris was polite every step of the way 😊
Totally agree
@@BondiVet very, he’s extremely kind and it’s sad to see people take advantage of him
I think you're reading this situation all wrong. I see this allll the time on these reality type vet shows, they're trying to be funny. Even on Dr.Pol they'll get sassy like this for comedic purposes, especially Dr.Pol himself! You really think they would air this if that guy was actually being rude?
And you'd be shocked by just how many farmers don't treat calf injuries because they grow so fast a lot of the time they heal themselves unless its really bad.
Would love to see Schnitzel and his new friend
I have a dachshund he is my world so watching this is incredible. I love Doctor Chris I only wish we had a vet like him in Felixstowe xxxx

Chris is a magic vet.
Schnitzel is so adorable😊❤
I have 3 doxies and they would rather be with me than anything else. Very social and sweet, but they will protect me with their last breath too.
Worlds best vet.

LOL love how the camera guy zoomed in the moment Chris stepped on poop 4:57
I bet schnitzel would be a good tracker (where such a little dog would suit.). I have no idea if there are gophers, but he could be very useful! I love that he’s grooming the calves. Does he do the licking when the mums are around?
Only Dr Chris would carry a jar of Vick's in his pocket. God, I love the things that only he can do 🥰🥰🥰
I am. Impressed! I hope he gets a friend. Lovely little guy.
My 3 daschounds are the exact same with my beef cattle. They love them
There you go. I just finished my comment and there you do it. I didn’t think about vicks a very good step to take!😉😀
Chris is definitely a very unique person. Wonderful man.
Poor calf has to be smelling the Vicks all the time.
I love this channel 🥰🥰
The animals are adorable!
I just love you dr Chris.... you're the best...
Poor Schnitty...that's all I can say 😥😥😥💔
0:29 Chris has the most aggressive power-stance I've ever seen
I once had a dachshund and a regular mutt who both had babies at the same time. Whenever the mom went to eat the dachshund mom would "steal" the puppies. Thank God it was easy to distinguish which puppies belonged to which motherss. But, we could never get her to stop until we had to completely separated them. Dachshunds are so persistent!!
9:33 that poor calf is shivering from the bath 🧼
They'll do the same when born as well. I'm sure the calf was dry within the hour so no worries.
Real life Dr. Doolittle & Clark Kent all rolled into one!
Daschunds need company they are very much pack animals he needs a little mate of his own species imo.
This episode made me sad. That cage they locked that little dog in would be like an oven. He is desperate for company and those calves tied up on short chains was horrible.
I was looking for a comment like this! Newborn calves, tied up/ chained away from their Mama’s, that poor little calf was trembling with fear! Then the poor pup just wanted love, affection and kindness - she is clearly capable of far more empathy than the human owners!
You know Schnitzel is cutlet in German……what a cute name 😂🥰
Why is the calf chained up !? The little fella
Just wants to have friends and seems to be very maternal.
Because they plane on selling him for veal. If they don't let them run around their muscles are softer for eating. It's disgusting. And those farmers are animal abusers. They could also see Schnitzel was lonely but didn't bother getting a friend his size for him. And the metal cage they put him in. Monsters!
I always enjoy watching Chris at work! That farmer's great!!
this dog just noticed his love for BBWs, smart dog
Why is the poor calf tied up so the dachsie can get after it?
That’s what I’m saying, like why is it like that and why isn’t nobody saying nun about it :/
I had a red doxie with a black right ear. I named him Archie. He was the best dog. He loved the feral cat that lived under the house next door. That cat was his bestie. My cat only tolerated him. I had to remove him when I went away to college. It broke my heart, but I found the best family who wanted him (they had a long-haired doxie before) & when I checked on him a few times he was just one of the family.
Wonderful and being lonely is a really sad life for a friendly dog. Dogs are social
Greetings from California Patricia
I’m mildly disturbed by them naming their dog Schnitzel haha. It’s a well known meat dish here in Germany
That was in fact a very sad little story . I’m glad it’s all sorted now . It truly was weird .

Great job Dr. Chris 😅😍
They are written Dachshund. And are pronounced Dahx-Hoond. Not Dashend. It's a German word. Literally means badger-dog because they used to be used in badger hunts long ago.
Snitsel. Is germen, for meat
That small fog attacked, a chain calf, even bad leg, and another calf bad leg
How many legs,. You have left???
@@kirstinetermansen2213 are you alright in the head? Also, Schnitzel means cutlet.

I didn't notice that guy going out to nab the calf...kinda gutless...
Also I notice the guy stays safe in the truck while Chris is out on the ground where the mom and friends is.

He was obnoxious.
Me as a German will never understand these people who give their dog names like "schnitzel"

Yes and being lonely is a really sad life for a friendly dog. Dogs are social...
Greetings from California Debra
I would have suggested a kitten, it was almost like he was mothering the cows
If you keep watching he was attracted to the scent of newborn on them. Its like a pheromones'. They washed and vick's-ed the calf and all better.
no painkiller for the calf yet had it been a dog or cat it would have had it straight away . shows you how farm animals are treated just as a commodity and not a thinking feeling being . they probably shot it after the show .
LOL i work on a farm and most painkillers are used sparingly as they can die easily from a heart attack if theyre suddenly stressed out, dogs and cats when taking painkillers get more relaxed where as barn animals get scared
My shitzu used to love licking the newborn calves poop because it was milky but would give up when they grew up but nothing like snitzel lol
