Q: my key frames don’t move/ are staying in the same place, how do i fix this?
A: turn OFF rasterizing (the button with the 9 dots in the top right
Q:i applied the hierarchy and now it won’t move!
A: make sure each the base layer (ie the head layer) has 1 symbol in it; any more and it won’t move
Q: how do i copy and paste more than one layer frame?
A: you cannot; as of march 2024 you can only copy and paste frames from one layer at a time. you’re able to do this by double tapping and dragging (or double tapping and selecting multiselect)
Q: is there a symmetry tool?
A: no
Q: how do i center?
A: enable snapping (magnet tool) and there should be a red line down the ENTIRE half of the canvas
EDIT 2!!: you can now copy and paste between projects! just in case you make the wrong type of project :3 this tutorial requires traditional! NOT key framing! (5/27)
edit: COMPLETELY FORGOT but make sure that the project is set to traditional before you do anything!! you cannot paste frames into different projects (as of april 20th 2023)!!

this can be used for any fps!! more difficult tweens can use this tutorial too with some adjustments :3
hii! i followed your tutorial even have the frames and timing but mine is alot slower? would you have any idea why this could be :0 i even have it at 12s / 12 fps
i adjusted all the timings (all parts including symbols) at the end to end at frame 7 instead of 12 (not changing fps) so it’s a little bit faster! :3 a lot of this process is just playing around and seeing what works for u, but if ur still having problems feel free to ask or send an example
@@ShrimpWave thank you for the response! i realized actually that i had mine on keyframing and not traditional as well... so i think thats why mine was much slower, though i don't think i can convert it to traditional after i've already started it in keyframing? so i may need to just start over
This is definitely a good tutorial, though I prefer mixing tweens with frame by frame animation. It is very time-consuming, but it looks more organic and natural.
How would mix tweens and frame by frame tho?
omg same! I like the look it has to it and you have that pride after youve finished the animation BECAUSE its so time consuming yk?
@nova_soda27 transform hierarchy is really good for mixing frame by frame and tweening depending on what you need to do; either that or putting it on a different layer and matching it up with everything else
Symbol layers are good for combining the two :)

I recently started using ToonSquid as well and I was curious how you made the symmetrical drawings since I couldn’t find the symmetry tool anywhere on the program LOL
there’s no symmetry tool so i just draw one half then duplicate and flip it 😭

the outline is added in my editing program! finished animations have a green screen so that’s it’s transparent when i go to add the outline :3

I have a question. If you have a layer with something like lipsyncing, how do you tween that to go along with the face movements if its a more dramatic movement? or can you not?
put the mouth layer under the head layer in transform hierarchy; it’s the same processes i use for the ears and hair in this video :3

I'm so sorry to ask but when I'm animating to a song do I have to manually loop the head bounce or is there a way that it'll duplicate my layers for me so I don't have to go through and do it?
the way i normally do it is copy each part one by one, but if you’re not really doing anything else besides just a headbop (no changes) then u can time how long the at is and put it all into a separate symbol (create new frame, create symbol, then work there or paste the bop there). symbols will loop on their own

@@ShrimpWavewait i don’t understand this? if i create a symbol it extends the whole layer back to the beginning and if i try to cut it, it stops being a symbol and the tween for the hierarchy doesn’t work. i don’t understand how i’m meant to copy and paste it because of the huge blank bit at the start
@anuraaaa sounds like you’re selecting the layer itself and making it a symbol. if you’re tweening, then select the frames/parts individually then try to move or copy it that way. youre also able to edit symbols if you enter the layer viewer and select “edit symbol” to retime everything

“more than one pixel/drawing layer;” toon squid calls drawing layers “pixel layers,” so it’s really “pixel or drawing” :3 hope this clears it up

hi! great tutorial, but is there any reason keyframes couldn’t be added? i tried everything, did it as shown in the tutorial and when i press add keyframe it just… doesn’t add.😭😭
if you haven’t already, try restarting your app or clearing cache in actions (i think… i don’t remeber); i’ve never heard of or encountered this problem so i’m not sure how to fix it ☹️ !

Would you happen to know how to draw a figure/animation outside the canvas perimeter without being cut off? I keep running into this wall. Ive done it only once but never figured it out again 😅
draw it in the middle, make it a symbol, then drag it to where you want it :3

Hi!! No idea if you still answer to these, but is it really normal for it to not look TOTALLY smooth? (Like how the animation kind of looks choppy instead of one fluid motion) i just got toonsquid after months of tweening on capcut and its confusing 😭
it depends on what fps ur using + how ur ipad is processing it! if you do a test export and everything looks fine it’s just an ipad issue; if u export and it still looks choppy, try messing with the fps
I got ToonSquid today! I’m wondering how to loop an animation (frame by frame) is there a way I can copy/paste multiple frames in the timeline?
if you double tap and drag from one frame, you’re able to select multiple frames at once! you’re only able to copy one layer at a time though

Sorry to come back again! But how are the brushes and the lag on toonsquid? Can it hold up for minute long animations such as amvs?
the brushes are incredible and the selection is just as good; several folders and several types of brushes + the ability to make ones yourself!
and depending on how much you’ve add it *can* lag, but a lot of the time it fixes itself if you turn off onion skinning :3

I’m trying to tween in ToonSquid, and was wondering if you know how to makes it so that after keyframing it doesn’t end of looking rlly choppy? I’m trying to make it look likes it’s a tween but the end result keeps looking like it’s on 8 fps and it’s not smooth :(
usually this depends on the app; if it’s choppy when youre just playing it, there’s too much storage being used and it’s slowing it down. despite this, exporting will still be fine and smooth as expected.
if it’s choppy when scrubbing through the animation, try adjusting fps or what graphs you’re using

if it’s a video, your best bet is to use a green screen and a video editing software to remove it; if it’s a gif, then you can turn off the background and export it transparently there

Mine won’t let me set an anchor point for some reason? Is there an extra button you have to press for that?
make sure the rasterize (the square with dots) button is not highlighted first; rasterizing has different movement properties than anchoring

hmm.. if i’m understanding right it sounds like your rasterizing is on. turn off the 9 dots in the top right if you haven’t already

dis is amazing :D but since I'm new & idk anything, I was wondering how u could copy and paste multiple frames at once. like in flipaclip you can just go to a screen & then it shows all the frames & then you can just select it and copy and paste it right. Can anyonw tell me how to do it too in toonsquid :D
you have to paste parts one by one; there’s not an option to copy multiple layers let alone paste them, so pasting each of them until it loops is ur best bet

@@ShrimpWave uhhhh I’m not sure how to explain it but for instance in FlipaClip I can loop a certain amount of frames but it’s the animation when I tried looping on ToonSquid I just looped the music and I just can’t figure it out I can’t figure out how to loop certain parts of the animation again and again kinda like how you looped the animation in your newest video if that makes sense?
oh i think i know what u mean! toonsquid doesn’t have a loop feature like flipaclips, so the best way is to just copy and paste all the parts to match the music

Do you have any idea how to explain how you moved the position of only one frame and stuff at 2:19 in better detail, because when i try to move one frame and add the tween and stuff, it moves the position of all the frames instead of just the key frame idk how to describe it fully
if the keyframe menu isn’t on at all times, then it’ll move the whole image for that duration instead of when you need it to
@@ShrimpWave what exactly is the keyframe menu? I think i know what youre talking about but im still doing something wrong and it continues to happen
when you press the keyframe button and all those extra lines come up; just make sure you don’t close it afterward
@@ShrimpWave The little dots don't appear for me when I open the keyframe menu?
also remember to not use rasterize when moving the parts too; you can turn this off by pressing the 9x9 box of dots on the top right (if it’s highlighted; if it’s off then you don’t have to worry about it)

I don’t know why, but when ever I make keypoints and then move the object it moves it on ALL keyframes! It’s extremely frustrating
make sure rasterizing is off (the button with the 9 dots on the top right) and/or that what you’re trying to move is a symbol

unfortunately there wouldn’t really be a way :( the smaller the canvas the lower the pixels
