😟 Why is it that I just BLINKED and we are already in September! Cannot wait for all of your autumnal content Carolyn! You are definitely one of the queens of cozy-fying everything! 🍁
Perfection = Carolyn's curls. I appreciate russian literature too. I read Pushkin's poetry collection and I loved it. And for the first time Iam currently reading crime and punishment.☺
I know it's unrelated but I'd like to see a video about your favorite movies and tv shows.I definitely love your taste. Especially would love to hear about your favorite classic movies .Sending so much love 💕💕
I'm reading "Ninth Street Women" about 5 women artists from 1940-1970 in New York, including Elaine de Kooning + Lee Krasner Pollock. It's absolutely fascinating. The backdrop of WWII and the affects of the war and the bombings in Japan on the global art world is especially well portrayed. I've also recently read: "Mrs Dalloway and the "Picture of Dorian Gray." I'm currently working my way through the Shakespeare Sonnets, one per day, and the poetry of Walt Whitman and Billy Collins, both of whom I adore.
One hundred years of solitude, the importance of being earnest and Malibu rising are my favourite from August! Planning on reading Anna Karenina soon on your recommendation (ok well actually gonna read Don Quixote and The Three Musketeers first but then I’m going to get round to it!) I’ve been inspired to finally tackle some of the big books on my shelf over the next few months after watching your recent videos. Anyway hope you have a lovely September with lots of good atmospheric reads :)
Have you read Saunders’ A Swim in the Pond in the Rain? It’s like a masterclass in Chekhov’s stories (and short stories in general), he often goes page by page discussing them. I got so much out of it, and appreciated the stories so much more.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on "Uncle Vanya" adaptation (if it's the one with Richard Armitage and Toby Jones - it's my favourite)! I read first two books of Elena Ferrante's "Neapolitan Quartet" ("My Brilliant Friend" and "The Story of a New Name") - both amazing, can't wait to continue reading them! Have you ever read any of Ferrante's books? 😊
I have been watching a TV series that I think the programme makers had you specifically in mind. It's called Wonderland:From JM Barrie To JRR Tolkien, and it takes in your beloved children's authors like Beatrix Potter,A A Milne,Lewis Carroll and so on.😃✨
I started "The People Immortal" by Vasily Grossman in late August. A short book of 300 pages by his standards, his previous two books which led on from each other were 1900 pages. An ideal book for Russian literature buffs, and relatively modern, written in serial form originally in 1942. With what is going on at the moment this book is a timely reminder of what has gone before.
Carolyn, if you ever are in Boston, you should pop into the Brattle and introduce yourself to Zac. He knows so much about books and can keep an eye out for books you might like. A good book friend to have. And if you see some homeless looking big blonde guy, hanging about, it is probably Steve Donoghue...just ignore him.
This is a bit unrelated but I discovered your channel this week and I love your taste in books ! So I wanted to ask u for romance book recommendations that are not cringe and I would like if they were fast paced to get me out of a reading slump , or just a fantazy book with a good romance sub plot .

as a theatre lover...chekhov's plays are fantastic
I see you finally read a big book. I knew you could do it.
Oh I so remember reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory at school 😁 😁
Great video ... Phew, I need to get back to Chekhov--it's been a while.

I read "Neapolitan Quartet" in June/July and couldn't put it done. Ferrante has a writing style that just makes you become addicted lol.

Checkov, Fitzgerald, Roald Dahl, Flush, by Virginia Woolf, your readings are the best, Carolyn!
Thank you 🥰
really enjoyed the chekhov pieces i read (your recs). would you please let us know which adaptations you watch?
I really think you'd enjoy some of Roald Dahl's adult short stories. They are delightfully weird!
I’ll definitely look into read them! Thank you for the wonderful recommendation :)

I encourage you to read East of Eden by Steinbeck. It's what got me back into classics and it's beautifully written!
You have beautiful hair. Also, love Russian literature. I've mostly read everything by Dostoevsky. Thanks for the recommendations!

You should watch the Disney adaptation of James and the Giant Peach if you haven’t seen that yet. It’s really great! Plus it’s got catchy songs :)
Whenever I saw Carolyn someone's image was running at the back of my mind and I couldn't pin point it. Now I realized, it's rory Gilmore
I love when people tell me this! Rory is one of my biggest literary inspirations 🥰
