Such a great video! I often have the impression that french literature is quite overlooked (besides The Count of Monte Christo and The little Prince). My personal favourite is Madame Bovary🥺
Bel-Ami is such an amazing book and yes I love to hate Georges Duroy. I found that the character of Oliver in Saltburn really made me think of him. I also found the role of women in his social climbing enterprise to be fascinating.
The Count of Monte Cristo is my favourite book of all time, so I would recommend that to anyone. I'm just finishing War & Peace this month (have you tried russian literature?) and then I will move on to Les Miserables, which will be my first Hugo novel! I'm a English speaker trying to learn french, so have petit prince in both languages, as I'm a real beginner. Would love a video on simple books to help french learners. And also a part two to this video exploring more French authors you enjoy 😊👏🏻
I totally understand the hype around Monte Cristo, Dantes truly is the perfect main character 😍 As to Russian lit I’ve tried Dostoyevsky with one of his smallest books and I enjoyed it ! W&P is on my tbr but it’s such a beast 😅 Thank you for the suggestions for future videos and have a nice week xx
I'd recommend Machado de Assis' books (from Brazil), he was a realist too and judging by your list here I think you'd enjoy him (if you haven't read it already)

Thank you for your feedback ! Madame Bovary was almost in my video but I changed my mind maybe in part 2 😉
Read The Count of Monte Cristo recently and now it is my favorite book of all time!
I’m currently reading it and I agree, I already know it’s going to be one of my favourite books ☺️
Génial !
merci!!

hi, do you speak/read in french ? or did you read these all translated ?
My native language is French so I usually read French classics directly in French, I can’t speak for the English translations sorry 😔
