Chelsea signing everyone for like 8 years makes a whole lot more sense when you see what's happening. Like Cole Palmer is probably signed until he's 40.
Only Real Madrid can really do this. Every other club must fear someone else snatching the player, if they do nothing but wait for two years for a contract to run out but because apparently everyone wants to play for Real Madrid this seems to be no issue for them. I figure you are really banking on that European competition money with that challenge. Do you think it would change the way you scout if you weren't considering a future sale in the deal?
Hate to break this to you bro but Beppe Marotta has been building teams like this for close to two decades already. Did it first at juventus and won the Italian league 9 years in a row by mainly signing free agents. Now he’s doing the same for inter Milan.
What exactly is the change? Sol Campbell left Spurs for Arsenal in 2001. PSG got Messi, Donnarumma, Ramos, and Wijnaldum all in the same window in 2021. The change was Bosman's legal case in 1995. Edgar Davids was the first high profile player to benefit when in 96 when he left Ajax for Milan
Trent planned to do this way back when he signed a 4 year deal instead of the 6 year deals his teammates were agreeing to. He planned this just in case a club like Madrid came knocking, and in case things didn’t work out at Liverpool (Klopp, FSG, their ambition, etc). He’s kind of a snake in that sense. We see how often he sets up pap-walks. He wants superstar status, not to be a Liverpool legend. Still FSGs fault though in many ways. But how can you say the player is not at fault at all? If he wanted to leave, he should at least get the club a good fee. Instead, he wants a hugeee sign on bonus under a free transfer.
This is another example of why you should never let a player go into the final year of a contract, it leaves the club completely powerless. Also Liverpool totally asked for this because why would you wait until the last season to try and renew your most valuable asset?
It’s odd you talk about Trent but not Salah, the assist leader and very obviously golden ball candidate for this year. Both have the ability to leave but I think it’s deliberate.
At what point does an investigation of tapping up players before the allowed time in contractual obligations become a factor for Madrid? This is the 5000th time
The 1 party's whose fault it isn't is Liverpool's. From the moment Trent signed his last deal, he has all the power and say over whether he wants to sign another. There's nothing, in the real world, that Liverpool can do to force him to do so (unless he has acquaintances like Gerrard) So Liverpool will just have to bite the bullet.

As a Liverpool supporter i have to mention klopp leaving as a factor in this. Klopp announces hes leaving January 2024. So in 2023 when Liverpool are probably renegotiating they cannot do it in good faith. Uncertainty around the new manager then leaves us where we are.
maybe im tripping but recently a lot free agent signings have almost perfectly lined up with players retiring/getting injured in their position. Its like some crazy voodoo by club managers
8:17 Liverpool went from "We're going to convince Bellingham to come over to Liverpool, we can convince him through his best friend Trent" to "We're Losing Trent to Real Madrid" in one and a half year. I'm very sure communications between Jude and Trent convinced the latter to move to Real. Remember, in 2021, Carlo Ancelotti, while managing Everton, was on the telephone with Florentino Perez because Carlo wanted to buy some Real Madrid players for Everton. The phone call ended by Ancelotti promising Perez that he would become Real Madrid manager at the end of the season. The rest is history. Florentino Perez didn't become uber-rich without some convincement skills.
Liverpool knew beforehand about klopp leaving that's why they didn't deceive mo, van dijk and TRENT into signing a new deal and to give them a chance to see the future with new manager.
With Mo and Virgil there is also their age to consider. Last Season there were already doubts if Salah was starting to get washed up, nobody could expect that by the new year he almost has a much scorer points as he did the entire last season. While Liverpool is a top club in the PL they don´t pay the highest salaries compared to the other top clubs like Chelsea, City or even United as far as i´m aware. Real and the Saudis can pay more
I feel like clubs will probably start adding a clause where they must discuss contract renewal a year before the contract runs out to counter this problem, not sure if this is already a thing but it seems like this would be a viable solution on the football clubs’ part in order to prevent this from happening continually.
Chelsea already does this - if a player is not renewing with 18+ months on your contract, they will stop playing you and force a sale. It’s what happened with Gallagher and with Acheampong (he recently re-signed and started playing again)
As a Liverpool fan what I'm worried about is Real needing a right back now and could test the waters with a nominal fee instead of waiting for the summer
I will say it's hilarious that you used Coutinho as the spending 140m example and then immediately reference "a guy who sits out and won't play matches" which Coutinho also did at Liverpool. He somehow committed every sin in one transfer - force your way out, be priced absurdly high, ultimately be shit
FSG like to spin contract extensions as a transfer of some sort. We heard this from them many times before. "We signed this one guy and extended 2 contracts so it's like 3 transfers. Now it might backfire.
Of the 3, VVD-Salah-TAA, I'd say Trent is the only one I expect to leave. VVD from what I've seen thus far has not really made any notion about wanting to leave and especially with the success of the team right now and the Dutch influence in the team, I would be shocked if he left Salah really seems like he is wanting to just stay with the club and be given something reasonable. His statements in interviews really comes off like he is wanting to stay and wants to work it out. I cant imagine him wanting to consider something elsewhere, as he seems to be loving his time right now and is clearly someone who plays with legacy/stats/records in mind and wants to further cement himself as an all-timer at the club. I think it's absurd that the nothing has been agreed upon at this point unless it later comes out that Salah was asking for Saudi wages. Keep him the highest paid player for another 2-3 years. I mean, he's in better shape than 99% of players, rarely gets injured, and he's 32 years old. Trent on the otherhand, and this is purely subjective and from my viewpoint does not seem to have nearly the same interest as the others. I think for 2 reasons: the first being he's obviously great friends with Jude and is interested in playing with him. Jude had rumors of a chance of going to Liverpool but that didn't turn out clearly. I think him along with it being Madrid is quite the big pull. I mean, it just feels like Madrid is constantly getting elite players on frees, and their influence just outweighs any team. The 2nd reason on Trent is even though the team is currently performing far better than I think the vast majority of people expected both in the Prem and in CL, I genuinely think Klopp having left will make it easier for him to consider leaving. He's spent his entire career at LFC and has repeatedly stated and shown how much reverence and gratitude he has for Klopp and I feel like his departure will be playing a part in making it easier for him to justify leaving as well.
There is literally zero blame to go around here - Liverpool can't match what Real will offer and Trent has known that since 2022. Trent will take the money and Liverpool will pay Bradley 15% of what they would have needed to keep Trent. Nobody is to blame, it's just football
It's tough for Liverpool and every club other than Real Madrid. I'm sure Liverpool can match the financial part of the contract. But if the player simply wants to another challenge there is nothing you can do. And why would Madrid pay a transfer fee if they know every player will crawl to them whenever their contract is up. Another thing that is still unclear is that whole situation with the Lass Diarra contract, a lot of clubs are taking less risk.
I’m just pleased that my side Walsall have a chance of going 15-18 points ahead of 2nd place if they win their next game. I’m displeased with the entire existence of Charlton Athletic.
Player power has been a thing since the Bosman ruling. This isn't slave owning US sport. With the advent of £100M+ transfers, contract expiration deals were always going to become more common, especially when "tapping up" happens everywhere, all the time, despite the rules.
So what's the solution? What are Liverpool and other teams supposed to do? From where I'm standing it seems like tapping up rules are completely pointless because Perez is allowed to declare interest in a player well over a year before his contract runs out, let alone 6 months. Hell, he had a known desire to sign Mbappe on a free before his LAST contract renewal at PSG, let alone 6 months before his contract ran out. Mbappe to Real was a watershed moment that told the world there's no point in tapping up rules because they will never be enforced, and when Real are the biggest team in the world... Perez can get any toy that he wants, free of charge.
This is nothing new, Sol Campbell did it years ago, even worse since he went to their direct rivals. No idea why people are so surprised by this situation, it has happened before and will continue to happen
While you are ranting on this Barcelona spent 55M for Olmmo this summer, now lose him on a free AND need to pay him the wage value of the remainser of his contract (approx 60M) 😂
“A player can just run their contract down and their’s little the club can do about it” “This is the club’s fault” Imo those statements cannot coexist, even if I wouldn’t really speak of “fault” in a situation like this
"The blame is on the club" Why does their have to be blame at ALL? If TAA leaves, he was an amazing servant to the club who won literally EVERY trophy. If he leaves, I have faith FSG will sign someone (or just promote Conor Bradley) and the team will continue to compete for titles etc. I don't understand this mentality of "WE MUST BLAME SOMEONE". I think in most of our lives we wish we could have our pick of jobs, and TAA's interest in Real Madrid makes sense from multiple levels. The only way there should be "blame" is if A) They muck up the finances of the club B) TAA's form craters after January and he costs us multiple games. Otherwise it's just a fact of life, no blame.
Yeah it´s incredible rare these days to have player with a career at one or two clubs (once they are settled) these days. Players move costantly and i can understand that TAA might want to play for another club especially if it´s Real Madrid. We don´t know when or how TAA, Mo or VvD were approached and it´s still possible that Mo and Virgil resign who knows. As for B) Conor Bradley has been doing well so far and Joe Gomez is at least decent if he has to help out as RB so i´m not too bothered if Trent would crater.
Kinda weird that there's no discussion of Trent's celebration from the match against West Ham last night, which I think it's easy to interpret that all the chatter about a Real Madrid move has been overblown. Or at least that's how I took it.
This is nothing new for John Henry and FSG. As a Red Sox fan this is basically exactly what happened with Mookie Betts a player who was developed through the Red Sox farm system since he was an unknown prospect until winning an MVP and a World Series for the team. FSG didn’t want to pay him so we traded him in a deal where the main goal was to get a different players horrible contract off the books. And got a bag of chips back where 1 of them is a semi serviceable role player l. This is nothing knew for the penny pincher John Henry and FSG
There is, but if Liverpool push legal action to deny TAA the move he wants, it won't end well. He'll end up at a PL club(City, Chelsea, Arsenal) and celebrating free kick goals against Liverpool. IMHO that would be worse than him leaving to go to RM and play with the "best in the world". Beyond that, Liverpool have nobody to blame but themselves in this mess, and defending upper management for this is insane. TAA is 1 of 3 of Liverpool's best players, and 3 of 3 have this same contract issue in 6 months. VVD, Salah, and TAA... How could Liverpool screw that up so badly? Again, if it's 1 player it's the player or that player's management, but when it's your 3 best players. It's the team's management being stingy and not paying players what they are owed.

I wonder if they can convince Trent to stay until the season is done. I think for the flow of the game for both squads it would be better.

VAMOS
I think bargaining power for players is good.
That shirt must have been super expensive, the pattern is super complicated
nostrils looking clear broski
God bless you for making these videos even tho people roast you, including me
Trent was offered 6 years when signing his last contract but he only wanted 4. This was always his plan. Not the clubs fault. He’s a 🐍
This is nothing new, Sol Campbell did it years ago, even worse since he went to their direct rivals. No idea why people are so surprised by this situation, it has happened before and will continue to happen
Zealand, babygirl, I think your hairline is running further than you right now
i feel like an epidemic of you being on the run is comiung too
While you are ranting on this Barcelona spent 55M for Olmmo this summer, now lose him on a free AND need to pay him the wage value of the remainser of his contract (approx 60M) 😂
“A player can just run their contract down and their’s little the club can do about it”
“This is the club’s fault”
Imo those statements cannot coexist, even if I wouldn’t really speak of “fault” in a situation like this
They can and do exist next to each other, tho.
His celebration against the Hammers makes me think it is not as much of a done deal as AS wants people to think
"The blame is on the club"
Why does their have to be blame at ALL?
Finally someone speaking sense
Perez learned his lesson about buying a player for an extortionate amount of money with 1 year left on his contract, see Eden Hazard
This is basically the same thing what happened with Donnarumma and Milan.
Kinda weird that there's no discussion of Trent's celebration from the match against West Ham last night, which I think it's easy to interpret that all the chatter about a Real Madrid move has been overblown. Or at least that's how I took it.
I’m surprised you didn’t dive into the chelsea contracts
Is that from the shirt shop in ‘I think you should leave “?
This is nothing new for John Henry and FSG. As a Red Sox fan this is basically exactly what happened with Mookie Betts a player who was developed through the Red Sox farm system since he was an unknown prospect until winning an MVP and a World Series for the team. FSG didn’t want to pay him so we traded him in a deal where the main goal was to get a different players horrible contract off the books. And got a bag of chips back where 1 of them is a semi serviceable role player l. This is nothing knew for the penny pincher John Henry and FSG
I should add that Mookie wanted to resign and we didn’t offer him enough money
So I take it that there isn’t a “no tampering” type of rule in world football.
That shirt is powerful
Stop yelling at me zealapapa
