Medical Laboratory Technologists in Canada need to go to an accredited school. They can't just challenge it with a biology degree. Please read the CSMLS website, it's under education.
hi i am considering this field and i have some questions: --is the schooling hard? --i searched "laboratory technician" on indeed.com (toronto) and i didn't see many jobs pop up...this makes me think there aren't a lot of jobs in the field in Canada. --is Centennial college good for this field or what college do you recommend? Thanks
Hi there! Thank you for the information! Could you please give me links on the certification program you speak of? The one you said it takes a year to become a lab technician. Please and thank you!
@@onlyraeda275 I am a laboratory technician from India. I run my laboratory for 28 years. I want to move to Canada. I have studied B.Sc. Microbiology and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology. Let me if I should go through Prior Learning Assessment route of CSMLS or should I take 1 year study program?
I'm thinking about becoming a mlt and I have a question, is it dangerous to be around the specimens? like I know you get masks and gloves but is there still a risk?
For the most part it’s safe but accidents can occur anywhere. One of the courses you take in the program is safety and laboratory fundamentals which prepares you for specimen handling.
MLT (technician) in the divided states (USA). They tell you a history of lab medicine. Back in the day they tasted urine and did like a huge breath in (whiff) and the pipettes suctions worked as if you were using a straw and if you move to fast that would get in your mouth...no one used gloves or protective eyewear (PPE) (sometimes I work without gloves). Of course not a lot of people do that anymore. Most incidents happen if you have to draw blood and you accidentally stick yourself with the needle after it was used on the patient (happened to me once) or a huge splash back in the face of body fluids (say if you drop something or your face may be to close to something (happened to me a couple of times). A lot of things are not harmful....like I work without gloves because I know I don't have cuts on my hands (it is easier to grasp certain things without gloves), not all labs give you lab coat (sometimes I come home with bleach stains or dried blood), and not all labs have the budget to by face shields. But most labs should have a hood for fumes. For the most part you're safe because where you work's protocols should be in place if anything like that were to happen. SN this is a dying field soon you will not need any certification to work in the lab. Just like back in the day...learning on the job is becoming the new thing because of student loans.
Just a heads up folks hospitals will hire you as a lab technician for around the same pay with no schooling. Go to school to become a technologists they make more money and you have to have a degree for that. Go big or go home. Don’t waste your time and money with just this degree when you can get into it without one.
OnlyRaeda hello beautiful!! so is it $35-$40 or $35000-$45000.. and I thought I seen in one of your videos that the median salary for a lab tech is $53000.. I have an appointment with the school tomorrow and I can use any extra help.. thanks

What's your salary
salary usually depends on where you get hired. Hospitals pay way more than clinics. I would say anywhere from $35-45000
@@onlyraeda275 can you tell me which one is better nursing Or lab technician.... Interms of salary

@OnlyRaeda
Razan Osman so it’s $35,000-$45,000 and you could get paid more than that depending on where you work. Hospitals obviously pay a lot more.
