  • Taking a look inside a Skil cordless drill.
    Built like a professional tool and but without the big price tag.
    No wonder so many people recommend these tools.
    Thanks again to ITI for sending them in for a look.
    Not everyone is looking for a big brand tool with a big price tag. Sometimes, all we want is a good tool with a good price tag.

    We need more of these videos- I think there are many out there that would like to hear your thoughts on durability when it comes to power tools. This can be a terrific series of videos sharing with us your thoughts on the various brands and the tools they produce that you don’t see much coming in for repairs. What’s reliable, good craftsmanship, heavy duty and industrial etc. keep up the great work.

    Thanks for this video! I had an absolute bargain 2 years ago when Skil was introduced to Finland, they were selling the big bag set of 20v brushless tool - drill, impact driver, hand circular saw, angle grinder, multitool and led light with 3pcs of 4Ah batteries for 499 euro. So I have invested into this line up and did quite some DIY jobs around my cottage and have been very surprised about the power and quality so far. I could not drain the 4Ah battery on full day of construction. I was cutting off from the old barn doors, a solid hard wood around 5-6cm and that hand circular saw did not have a problem with it at all. Never owned the battery circular saw and I was amazed how good it is. Only now when they have been established they don't do too much great deals. Normally 1pcs of 4Ah battery is around 70-80 euro. So not so cheap brand anymore, but it seems that the quality is there at least.

    Thank you very much. IMHO your channel is a very worthy complement (or better - successor) to AvE's trademark "BOLTR" videos, especially since these have become more infrequent over the last few years (perhaps he already has enough power tools in his shop for a lifetime, who would blame him).
    Done by someone who has a ton of experience with all kinds of power tools and their failure modes, obviously. And showing the state / (un)repairability these tools are in after a lot of professional use & abuse.

    If it's 3070 then I bought mine in 2019. Issues started years later and troubleshooted that trigger switch caused drill light to blink and not start sometimes.Tore it down and looked like connector plate where contacts were sliding was quite worn and had grooves in it. Is this one Tning TN28 as well? It was hard to find and perhaps little bit pricey since it cost ~ 24eur and new drill was around 65 :D. But I still ordered it and changed the part and now works great again. Perhaps should add some grease tho, wondering what the light yellow and dark gray stuff is?

    The newer premium line of Skil tools are an absolute steal. I have several of the newer 20v "PWRCore" tools and all of them are top notch. Don't let the era of cheapo Skil tools scare you away from the brand. The brand was made cheap when Bosch owned it which ruined the reputation. But now the same company that brought EGO electric lawnmowers and tools to market own and produce Skil tools now. They know what they are doing when it comes to electric powered tools. Just make sure not to buy their cheapo line products if you're looking for the premium stuff. Their cheaper offerings are a different ballgame.

    Dean, they look like Ozito tools rebranded as Skil. Or thats what they look like colour wise.Skil, of course, is more widely and a worldly known brand. I remember owning a corded Skil drill 45 years ago. They were very rugged and an exceptional drill, and it came in a metal box with a plastic see-through front. To be honest, I kept that drill till it eventually died a noble death. You could get special attachments for it, a circular saw, grinder, and sander. I just loved it. It took me a while, but I eventually got all the adapter attachments for it. It's long gone now, though. Thank you for showing us the latest Skil cordless tools, it's very interesting to watch. Oh, one last thing the Ozito brand in Australia is a not too shabby low-priced alternative to the more expensive brands on the market sold by Bunnings, an Australia wide chain of very large hardware stores selling to the local do it yourselfers and tradesmen in Australia. Again, thank you for the Skil show and tell, your videos are always of a high calibre and incredibly interesting.

    • @robertrada4783
      @robertrada4783 8 месяцев назад +1

      You’re going to get better traction by name dropping Ozito’s parent company, Einhell. The skus may be different, but the products are the same. I don’t know who Einhell’s producers are in China. Chervon have a lot of customers they produce for and also own Skil , Skilsaw, Ego and also Flex.

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  8 месяцев назад +1

      They could well be the same tools. It's not unusual for a very good manufacturer with a good reliable product, to make the same tools for other companies in thier name. I would guess this tool is used by other companies, as it is a very good drill and quite cheap yo buy.

    • @slasher9883
      @slasher9883 8 месяцев назад +2

      I have used these Skil cordless tools and had a good look at them. Can tell you they seem well above Ozito in design and quality. Don't think they are the same tool. Ozito are cheapo DIY tools and Skil seems to sit somewhere between DIY and big 3 trade tools. Like Dean say's they actually seem great value for money. Re old Skil stuff, I have owned many 240v Skil tools over the years and they have always been pretty good. They made most of their stuff in the USA and the quality always seemed good but probably a bit below the Japanese/European stuff of the time. I don't think it is the same company that is making the modern cordless stuff.

    • @boberson83
      @boberson83 8 месяцев назад

      Skill is Chervon owned/made and Chervon is one of the biggest OEMs when it comes to power tools so it's entirely possible they're built at the same factory. Ozito is now owned by einhell but I'm unsure of how much of their tools they actually produce themselves.

    • @davidsmith-ih2kk
      @davidsmith-ih2kk 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@slasher9883 yes I take that on board they are just similar in colour and design on the outside but inside they appear much better designed. Also let's not forget the actual supposedly the lowest of the low cordless tool XU1, yet in saying that I have always had the opinion that XU1 are not that bad especially for the price 39 dollars for a brushed hammer drill with charger and one battery is not too bad and I just love blue.
