I'm of the opinion that anyone over 1200 can do the bishop and knight checkmate, since it's mostly using the king and then pieces to force the king to a corner and potentially doing the W maneuver to get the king to the right corner, which is just memorizing 2 or 3 variations. The higher the rating/the more practice you have with this, the faster you can do this. It's just extremely unlikely for a 1200-1800 to know it since most people at this level have poor understanding of mostly middlegame planning and calculation, and focus more on that
@@anawilliams1332 I have been able to do it, it's easy. I have also seen former Women's World Champion Anna Ushenina fail to do it...she did it very badly...but that's because she forgot or she wasn't taught it or something. I mean, you would expect someone of her high calibre to be able to at least have an idea of how to do it, I think she probably tried a method but forgot it. Even Hikaru Nakamura struggled to do it in a limited, short time. There was another Women's World champion who also couldn't do it in a short amount of time. One of the difficult parts of it is moving the king to the edge of the board. But once you've got the king at the end, everything because rather easy peasy. I know that you are around 2000 FIDE rated, I saw your other comments on this comment section. I myself am around 1600 I think (I am not sure what my rating is to be honest. I am from England, and I never got an official FIDE rating), although I am not happy with my current rating. I used to be captain of my primary school chess team and I played for a club. I was in the MegaFinal in the UK and I was also in my secondary school B team, so I'm an ok chess player. Congratulations for achieving 1950 FIDE, it's good stuff. As chess players, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Capablanca is the one who said that endgames are the most important thing and that they can develop skills. There are many brillant grandmasters and world champions who struggle with endgames. Grishchuk did it rather easily, although he got a bit hesitant. Also that women who defeated Magnus Carlsen once (not Judit Polgar, another woman...oh I remember her name now, something Kosteniuk...Anna Kosteniuk, maybe?) she was able to do it rather easily too. So different players have different fondness and adeptness at endgames.

This is a flex which I want to do in a game.
damn impressive

@@spectralanalysis I can't. And I am certain most can't as well.
It’s not very useful. I’m 2000 and I probably can’t do it. Maybe if I had like 30 minutes on the clock

Same. I’m 1300 and can mate with bishop and knight. GM Aman has a great video on it.
Could you please link the original video, I've been trying to find it for months but idk which episode this is
bishop and knight checkmate is easy, but if you ask me to mate with 2 knight(with an opponent pawn), I give up.
Sure buddyguy

2 knights mate is not possible unless in some extremely unusual position
@@fumuso that's why I said 2 knight and 1 opponent pawn.
@@phantomfish3555 only in some extreme cases would that only be possible still

It's easy to do, with enough practice. This dude has speed though, kudos.

To do BN mate that easily would suggest a much higher rating. One would have a lot better things to learn as a 700. That combo rarely comes up.

not sure why the elo is relevant here. someone who is 1300 should definitely know how to do a knight and bishop checkmate.
There are even some grandmasters who have messed it up. It's easy though, but some people didn't learn it.
