I did something similiar, and after you get one character that has 3 positive genetic traits and no negatives there is a decision to "strengthen your bloodline" giving all your descendents from that 40% more chance to inherit positive traits and reducing chance to inherit negative ones. Pretty incredible because most of my family has incredibly powerful traits now.
And that allowed me to conquer many lands through marriage and gain powerful allies as the AI loves those traits..
This is the one thing I truly missed in CK2.. If your character inherited any good traits was like a coin toss. Now you can actually make it your strategy..

I don´t know, by the time I am king I generally can stamp on everyone except the largest Empires.. That is a problem that is always there..
To me it depends on how you look at it, your going to get a pretty difficult early to mid game.. Because you need to marry your relatives together to ensure the traits are passed down and the `Pureblood` trait is given.. And you need to be micromanaging your family a lot.. Losing characters will be a big deal.. And they kill each other a lot.. Giving setbacks..
It is very powerful as long as you keep it up.. Stop working on your family and those traits are slowly be diminishing within a few generations.
It is a pretty powerful play style, but to me it stays fun for a lot longer then just expanding your Kingdom..
After becoming a Empire I am usally done with the game, but with this family play I have being going for quite a while now.. Not even expanding necessarily but expanding my dynasty into every kingdom in the world..
Got more then a 100 living family members at this point

Daddy Sorrow. This will probably get buried because all us kids are smooth brains but there's a decision you can take that will make getting good congenial traits much, much easier. You need each of the leveling traits (intellect, beauty, physique), and one of them needs to be level 3 (genius, beautiful, or herculean), respectively. Basically if you continue and play as one of your kids you'll get it.

pro-tip: play as Leon, he has epic intrigue stats and can kill his brothers with no need for agents if you set your spymaster to support schemes and chuck your wife on assist intrigue
