I really would have liked to have been more informed. I had a cortisone shot that actually weakened my second toe ( which caused the hammertoe I have now.) For anyone watching it's very important to try alternate treatments like the ones mentioned here. You can try to live with hammertoe and manage the symptoms with taping etc. at the cost of your foot's dexterity. I have a job where I climb, stop, crawl, and flex a lot. Being able to perform these actions safely helps to avoid injury, having 4 functioning toes with 1 with limited articulation is not practical. I could have avoided huge medical costs just by switching to a pair of HOKA shoes and great orthotics for about 200 bucks.
Ribbon taping helped me immensely. Fyi i was never properly diagnosed with a plantar plate tear. But i was experiencing every symptom. Wore the tape for over a year. Just took it off actually. My toe feels funny now i need to strengthen it.

Thank you for this video. Very insightful chart. Too many doctors have their cookie cutter answers, some of which can actively make your situation worse. Cheap OTC orthotics coupled with a metatarsal pad caused a stress reaction in my good foot. Had to go right back to my ASICS. Steroids are terrible for you and weaken tendons and joints and can lead to a rupture. Suppressing inflammation is about the worst thing you can do in this situation. OTC NSAIDs are barely better than placebo at reducing pain. I'm 6 weeks out and thought it was getting better, one day of strengthening exercises and back to square one. Nothing works for this condition. Thousands of people in the comment sections of these videos months to years out still begging for answers. Starting to believe that surgery is the only thing that can help a ligament or tendon tear. Our bodies just haven't evolved to heal collagen injuries. Are Hokas worth the hype and price?
I’m not sure where you’re located, but I made an apt. Dr. Pelto is located in Ma. Been battling ball of foot pain for months with 2-3 different opinions and 2 MRI’s and X-ray.
I injured my ball of my left foot by running and jumping. Finally went to go see a podiatrist after months of discomfort and pain and loots of swelling. He immediately gave me a hydrocortisone shot. Never had one and not a fan of anything. I was in so much pain and went with it for some reason. Prior to going to podiatrist i had already stopped conditioning because of problem. Stayed off foot, iced, stretched, new shoes…Now a month after shot i took a step foward and my middle toe is now shifted towards toe and slowly curls back inward and Im very worried. Still have some control when i wiggle or move my toes but something is definitely wrong. As if its tugging and pulling. I need some advice doc. I already took xrays waiting on results. Should of done that before shot. Im very disappointed for falling for the shot. Im wondering now if what’s happening to my toe a reaction. I appreciate your video lots information. Thank you for your time. Im from California. 42 year old male.

Yes, Clifton 9 HOKA shoes are great. There's enough foam that you can take the insole out and have a custom orthotic and STILL HAVE plenty of comfort
