My sister and I were raised on a small rural farm, in Southern New England, by a mother who was, and still is, a narcissist who dictates the lives of the family, and a father who coped with her narcicism by drinking nightly. We could not watch Saturday Cartoons, as they were not a productive pasttime. I was an escapist reader, and was told, "Since you are doing nothing, how about you help me weed the garden". Reading was a non-productive activity. I was allowed the purchase of ONE paperback at the discount store per month. Piers Anthony Xanth Series, Weiss and Hickman's Dragon's Lance series were both big then. We also could not watch any movie rated R(back in the 1970s and 80s, there was no nudity or adult situations in PG movies). As we entered our young adult lives, and were enrolled in post secondary education, we were forced to "fast forward" through "bedroom scenes". I can relate HARD with Nate on sensoring by parental units, and with Sasha on narcicism in the parental arena. It is fantastic that you have your friendship as a foundation for a healthier reality. ❤

I lived a pretty sheltered life when it came to movies, although we did see Dirty Dancing but it was heavily redacted. My Mom had recorded it from the TV and I didn't realize there were large gaps missing from the movie until I was an adult and watched it for the first time myself, lol.

Sasha, if you love fantasy smut, I think you'd enjoy the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. And the Nevernight trilogy by Jay Kristoff. But you need to read all of SJM's series' too!

I agree with Nate my parents are very religious so when the Harry Potter books/movies came out and it was a big thing I couldn’t read or watch and now I’m an adult and never watched or read any Harry Potter books/movies @sashaandnate
