Help!! I am trying to get the column totals in my spread sheet. On the cell I want my total, I put =SUM (C4:C63) and it says #REF! What am I doing wrong?
thanks bro.
Thank you for uploading this video

How did you create the Total header at the bottom? The way it’s outlined in solid black
Thankyou
Very helpful video, thank you! I just have 1 question. Is there a way to add columns when adding by rows. I am trying to keep updated points for weekly races. If I start with =sum(b2:d2) and the answer is showing in e2 can I insert columns and it update without having to change the sum equation?
I second this.

Thank you it was so help full
I'm glad to hear that. Thanks so much for watching.
very helpful, thanks.
I'm glad to hear that. Thanks so much for watching.
I am subtracting one column from another. the rows that have no numbers inputted yet give the total as $0.00. How can I get those blank until I fill out the numbers being subtracted?
Can I format the column based on the amount paid compared to the payment to be paid, when the amount to be paid is different for each client (eg: to be paid :10000, paid 3000). I want to add colour gradient based on the percentage of payment made.
Thanlk you
we just have to use = equal sign and write sum? and it will do the calculation?
Would you happen to know why my cells are not summing accurately? Even when I manually add them through sheets it doesn't sum properly. It's off by $.04. If I add manually on a calculator its accurate. Any ideas?
Hi @techtalk ! I downloaded a CSV and opened it in Google Sheets. I'm trying this method but the sum is just coming up as zero. Is that because it started life as a CSV?
Anyone know what to do if you want to keep inserting rows and have them automatically get added to the sum?
how do you show the sum of an auto calculated row if you filter?
how do you sum the line, but indefinitely down the spreadsheet? Each line gets its own sum for the whole sheet. I'm starting in D2 with the totals in I2?
You have to select the letter/ number and deselect the the line title. That will select indefinitely down the page
hehe - This reminds me of an excel class I took in the early 90s. How do you avoid having to change the formula when you add rows. Is there an infinity option?
Thanks a lot dear❤️
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
Is there a way to auto populate the sums? say I had a list that stretched from row 3 all the way down to row 200 and wanted to set the sum of column A and B to populate down column D. Is there a way to set the parameters so each row will auto calculate when entered? or do I have to go through and manually enter all of them?
just copy and Paste the Sum in all rows
@@JustCreativityHere I tried mine but the results are not the same as the sum
@@JustCreativityHere LOLOL I HSOULD OF KNOWN THAT myself!! I did column by column!! LOL I KNEW that is doable.
Great video, Question, when i'm trying to do this with a row i'm getting a fraction. For example I'm adding up 5 +5+5 or =sum(B3:B6) and the answer i'm getting is 1/14. I can't seem to give me an sum that doesn't have a / in it. Any idea?
I'm guessing your formatting for that specific cell has somehow been changed to a fraction output. You can try changing formats by using the "Format" menu option at the top of the page and selecting a different number format (second option down). Hope that helps.
Is it possible to freeze the "Total" row so it stays put when you sort by, say, last name? For example, in this sheet, if you right-click the Name column and choose "Sort sheet Z-A" the Total row ends up at the top and the SUM formula no longer works.

When using google sheets sum function, how do I get the sum amount to change according to what is filtered in the respected column?
Thank you! I didn't have to go begging to my husband to show me how! I feel empowered!
Our addition video is good for learners
Hi, thanks for sharing. My issue is I want to add up two collumns cells automatically simultaneously in a new column. For example, using your sheet ( add B cell + C cells again and again going down for each listed person, the answer to be shown on D cell next to each.. how can I do this? hope you understand
I do! This is exactly what I want to do too.
Can someone tell how to dynamic add the values of rows like when a new row is added with a new value, then what formula to use so that it automatically picks the value of new row and then show the of all the rows. TIA😊
Perfect.
Thanks for the feedback and for supporting the channel by watching.
thanks bro

YEEEE BOIIIII
Please some buddy help me i want to make one formula i have 1 digit if it is less than 1.5 it is considered as 1 if it is greater than 1.5 considered as 2 what formulas should I use?
when I press enter, it shows 0. I did as you say. even typed limit manually
I want to highlight all to verify totals.
When I do this and hit enter mine doesn’t add up, it still says =sum(G3:H3), any suggestions?
To whomever liked my comment, I figured it out: up at the top under view or one of those tabs there is an option called “show equation” or something to that effect, make sure that isn’t checked
@@richielavey1565 OMG THIS MY ISSUE AS WELLL!!!! Thank you for the follow up!!!! It made my damn day!!!! 🤗
What formula should we apply so that after adding a new name column, the total formula automatically includes that row? I've been searching for a few days but couldn't find the solution. Excel gives a simple solution to this issue, but is there a method available in sheets?
can i just lock this somewhere down there and i can keep adding my row down while the total is keep updating
Thank you. My sheet didn't auto select the area. The only option was to manually type the sum function code.
How can you do this if the cells that you need to sum is in a drop-down data/format? It keeps saying 0.
ikr same thing keeps happening with me!
It'll be 0 unless you have numbers in the cell (I am sure she's figured it out, but for others)
