Something that I was not aware of when I first got sober, was my emotional maturity, or emotional intelligence level. At whatever point we cross the line and begin using alcohol to cope with everything, is the age we are from a development standpoint. I was 37 when I finally realized that alcohol was not the root problem, but emotionally I was about 15. The good news is, we can "grow up" fairly quickly, simply by how we move our feet. "Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, the results will always materialize "IF" we are willing to work for them"! Peace! Mark
Lately I`ve had some minor cravings after 1,5 sober years. I told myself: I quit once, I`ll just have to quit again. For me its not the "I could do with a drink" thing because one drink is never enough. Then I thought about it: Well, it may provide me with a great dopamine boost, but at what price? Am I really prepared to pay with my life? Just for a few hours of a crazy rush, not to mention the downfall the next days. Guys, its not worth it at all. I made a decision and I just dont want to pay that price! Just remember, Alcohol is not what you think that it is.
Thinking it through is a powerful mind excersize. Almost a year for me and I play it through in my head and then I'm so relieved I've made the change and the little thought demon gets fried. Haa. Be gone!! It truly is such a better life to be free from the booze trap.
I stopped for a long time and relapsed. I was expecting it to be amazing (dopamine rush etc) , and that I would be flying on the ceiling having a ball. The reality was it was horrible, tasted foul , messed my stomach up. Also the elation never came, I just felt flat, dizzy and disappointed. You are correct , its just not worth it. Also, it took me months again to stop again and I kept chasing a feeling that was no longer there, regardless of how much I drank.
@@damian-795 great testimony. !! Alcohol buzz creates its own legendary wives tale. So true. All the more reason to just move on to things that bring real joy and fulfillment.
It is what it is. I call these habit ghosting... I had plenty of those over the years... It's just part of the old programming appearing in your mind's peripheral vision, so to speak... Best of luck to you.
Did three weeks sober then yesterday got triggered at a wedding. Then today I've drunk like 8 light beers (2.6%). Your videos inspire me to get another long streak and give up for good.
Don't worry, just get back to being sober. I stopped drinking 28 days ago, I have slipped up twice. I think it is part of recovery. I do not want to go back to being addicted to it ever again.
@@AaronHolland-ub1kg Hmmm, Kevin has videos about this. In my experience it's only possible if I remove myself from those situations. My will to resist is too fragile.
Very helpful video, Kevin! 4 easy tips to help you along your journey are: 1. Seek support: Reach out to friends, family, or support groups who can provide encouragement and assistance. 2. Establish a routine: Create a daily routine that keeps you engaged and occupied. 3. Avoid triggers: Identify and avoid situations, places, or people that may tempt you to drink, and try finding new hobbies to replace old drinking habits. 4. Practice self-care: Focus on taking care of yourself both physically and mentally. Stay strong everyone and keep fighting the urge! ❤💪
I had a goal. An important date. 1yr sober, ok done. Ive been working on the many 'why' or triggers. Now its time to take on more. Its time to take some necessary steps to ensure i enhance the self care, the self respect and the self control. I love being sober. Onwards and upwards friends 💪👍
Kevin thank you so much for what you do. I've struggled. But your videos have helped me so much through tough times and my desire is to quit for good. My new wife died 17 months ago after 6 years of dating and 7 months finally married. I've had a tendency to want to numb this.......
You're welcome Kevin. Sorry for your loss. My wife also died very young. Numbing can seem the only way in the short term but in reality, it's a horrible way to deal with loss. It's been over 20 years for me, but I remember those first days like it was yesterday and wouldn't wish them on anyone. Stay strong.
I’ve been trying to moderate for a few years now ,and it hasn’t worked,I cut back from three times a week to twice a month last year and this year but I find I’m trying to stop completely and always slip up,so ten days ago I tried to moderate with peroni bottles ,and then ended up having ten ,which is 3 litres and 330 millilitres,I had a complete memory loss and have found out I was saying horrible things ,it’s like my brain was hijacked by a demon ,sometimes I get some memory loss but not as bad as this, then vomited ,and then more vomiting in the morning, hangover bad ,palpitations terrible, get them sober but was even worse .so now I’m on a mission to not drink as I never want to feel or be like that again ,that is worse than landing in stinging nettles or falling down stairs as at least I can remember that .im 51 now and I want to try last bit longer in this life
We call it the Moderation Loop. It's a war you'll never win... even if you managed to moderate, ask yourself for what? Life is so much more rewarding when you don't have to answer to a habit call
This is a wonderful video and a succinct guide to some of the cornerstones of recovery. Really really good stuff here. Blessings to you and blessings and determination to everyone trying to get clean or staying clean.
I still slip back, though i don,t have it real bad it drives my heart rate and pressure up in ratio to the alcohol dose,i know its never one but it just starts there ,it been done so many times.Biggest piss off for me is having to push back at friends,i should not go there, just NO, no excuses,no reasons,no answers, stay off me,mind your own business.Almost to the F off point to several old friends. They just don,t get it.

Thanks Kevin. Three weeks sober. And I'm feeling great, got a clear head and energy to get on with things in my life. It feels good to be sober.

That is why I want to stop too. I was having blackouts and doing all sorts of odd things, as if my body had been hijacked by someone else.
Straight talking - excellent 👍
I appreciate it 🙏

The thing I hate is when people hear I’m not drinking, they look at me like I have two heads and say “why not?” Grrrrrr
Great video, thanks.

All we can do is choose our own paths as wisely as we can and stick to it. Best of luck.
But I Like to drink !
