I would like that too, I can picture a warlock running around while inside an infernal "armour" like Iron Man pummeling things with their fists and burning enemies. However we already have a DH tank spec, and it kind of does that already.

This is a bit like those private servers letting you pick skills from other classes for a custom class.
I think it's a cool concept to not lock a playstyle to a single class or class group, but I think Blizzard is gonna oof when it comes to implementation.

In WotLK a warlock in full arena and stam/res gem stack could tank ToC25. Searing Pain spam

They took some inspiration from Ascension WoW clearly . The seasonal server with raising lvl caps as time passes on was the 1st seasonal server of Ascension ( started at lvl 10 and went up to 60 ) it was a fun way to play Vanilla .
Shame they didn't take inspiration from TurtleWoW instead.
It was fun until everyone got to the point where they made absolutely broken builds, PvP was a fucking shit show lol

Ascension is entirely based on WoW and their intellectual property so it is only fitting blizzard takes back some of it for their own use. :D
This might sound crazy but a Lvl25 cap actually makes me interested in playing the game, i'm not super hardcore but if i could enjoy leveling to 25 and then play raids at that level, i would happily pick up the new expansion

Level cap is a reason to give the once falling behind an exp boost. Keeping everyone as long as possible in the subscription loop.
100%. People in the chat have no idea what they're talking about. This is what they've begged for. There's no point in just playing the game the exact way it is with some added zones and raids. That's stupid. Look at OSRS, the game is incredible and people are fanatically devoted to it. They didn't just add zones. They added new gear, spells/prayers and monsters. This is how you keep the game actually interesting and flavorful.
This is probably for the best. Let's face. Can the Blizz team really make a Classic+ expansion? Before anyone has faith in that, let's see what they can do with a Classic mix up twist. Baby steps.
100% this. My excitement is growing. And this is probably not even totally directed at me as I have only leveled three classes beyond lvl 25 anyway ^^. I just hope that the majority of discovery is about the world rather than the classes.

I guess blizzard realizes that they want to recapture the magic that it was Classic WoW, but probably doesn't really know how to do it in a Classic+ kind of sense. So they're gonna do a bit of reshuffling, maybe try out some new ideas, but basically give you Classic in a slightly more experimental and limited form to see how it goes. I think it's not something Classic players wanted or expected, but it does have the potential of being interesting.
One thing I do wonder is, why Blizzard, in their wisdom of ripping off good ideas and passing them off as their own, don't just do an OSRS style community vote on what the people actually want? Sure maybe the players aren't the best sorce to ask sometimes, but if they present decent choices to vote on, I wouldn't mind the community choosing for themselves.
Most people seem to want some new end game content and adjustments to class balance.
Even if they just adjusted class balance, I think the vast majority would be super happy with that.

But classic has always been about more than just the endgame content. Players who are looking for only end game content and class balance should be playing retail... lets not turn Classic into retail...

I find it hilarious when they first announced it people screamed "NOOOOO" when hearing about yet another "Seasonal" model in 2023 gaming.
EDIT: Okay this is basically Classic + they even teased it by saying they want to keep it to feel like Classic "Plus". But I hope they reinvent classic in a new way with new story and new way to approach the story and with actually new dungeons and raids, not dungeons with raid mechanics in the same old dungeon layouts with a few extra bosses.. the new PvE content seems a bit of a letdown but the "new" and returning skills coming to classic are all sick imo.

I feel its starting to look like retail with all these class role additions. The idea was just make small tweaks to some of the classes and finish off all the unfinished stuff they couldn't do 20+ years ago. How hard is it for them to understand that?
I am 100% onboard with this so far. I like the idea of tiered max levels. This is the only way it was going to go. Expansions are 5-10 levels added, they weren't going to release a 60 level "expansion" for sweatlords to power to 60 then bitch they got nothing to do lmao.
They managed to make the Classic Plus we wanted into some downgraded Ascension WoW. Amazing.

Legit dont understand how anyone is not excited for this. This is far more exciting then them re releasing boring ass classic . You spending month or so to get to 60 then them adding maybe a new zone or dungeon every few months or more. Like wow so fucking exciting. Instead we get brand new reimagined classes with these runes and get to experience classic in a brand new way. With them also stating that at max level once they get to 60 they are going to be adding all that shit people wanted in classic + anyway. So they give us something FAR better in a shorter time and get to enjoy and yall are crying lmao how? Shit looks amazing and you know damn well your going to be playing it

I like how Blizzard have so much pride, they avoided copying Ascension wow, they actually made a totally different twist to classic. Level cap isn't that bad, good for pvp and it'll gives them time to reworking more dungeons into gaids
For me it's better because the thing stopping me from playing classic for so long has been that i heard it's gonna take me months to level. The idea that i can get in early and we're all just going to 25 seems like a great start.
They only avoided it by not doing it all the way. They said they might be interested in multiclass in the larger breakdown
They’re following the OSRS leagues formula which makes a lot of sense. They can experiment with stuff and test the waters for a full blown classic+ if they ever decide to pursue

Little unsure how I feel about this. But the more I think about it the more perfect it sounds. Everyone seems to have classic figured out down to a science. everyone knows where to go what to do and has a gameplan every play through. going through a classic WoW this time and knowing nothing sounds like fun

For people who don't understand, this IS Classic Plus. It's not a temporary season. It's a Level Progression Server. It's designed to let us experience the FULL world of Azeroth, not just rush to 60, do some raids, and quit. The level caps will be 25, 40, 50, 60. They are adding new gear, dungeons and raids. Yes NEW, not just turning old dungeons into raids. They said they are going to turn unused content into new dungeons/raids, they mentioned Uldum by name even.
Mage Heal , Rogue Tank, Warlock Tank... yeah retail mix up where everyone can anything. That is what classic player wanted. Can they do anything right?
the first announcement was so awful, but the "what's next" section explained that it's essentially the start of a Classic+ project. Karazhan crypts even got "leaked".

Project ascension in a nutshell
Ascension minus most of the custom content and also half the original game
Absolutely over the moon and hyped to return to azeroth with my mayes after ten years or so of having no reason to do so. Slow content brackets without having to no life and grind gives loads of players a reason to return and relive some pvp and content at a steady rate.
This is really their first attempt at solidifying some sort of Classic+ concept…
I feel like they have to make horizontal content somehow, and maybe this is their first step at implementation.
This sounds interesting but... it's not what we were looking for. I hope classic+ is still not off the table and this Season of Discovery is just a 1 year thing. Maybe they can use this time to gather data what players like, what they don't like to be used for the real classic+ later? ok, I'm hard in copium here..

The thing that bothers me is that there is no gameplan for long term support. It's hard for me to get invested into an MMO season where my character might not have any additional progression after the season. It kind of ruins the MMO feeling which is about continual progression.

Ive alway hoped for low level raids. The hope also being that they would make classic f2p until level 29 or 39 where those raids could provide players with twink gear and open up an extremely poppin low level pvp bracket. But that will never happen. I might try it for fun but ill never become attached to a season toon. They just will get xfered to non-era classic that I have zero interest in.
This is Classic+ done slowly and I'm totally fine with it. By the end, we'll have completely new raids/dungeons, class mechanics and locations just like we wanted for Classic+. Kara Crypts will be one (already teased) so that gives you all the idea you need. And it begins THIS month!
Its PC ready. A Mage can identify as a Priest and a Warrior can identify as a Warlock
Sounds interesting to me, even though I never played wow much. I want to get into it but now if you can mix match classes between two types of classes I might be able to get into this.
People will find the most OP composition and it will become meta. Then if you are not in the meta you will never be picked up to do anything in group.
I'm gonna do a melee mage if there's a way to wear plate armor.

Classic+ appeal was that it was a dream of things that you wish classic could have had or what it could have turned into. Its just that, a dream, like fanfiction. Also its Blizzard, the same Blizzard that you feel disappointment with. They could never understand what the real vibe of vanilla was because they are a completely different "person". All the OGs devs who had the ideas, vision and guidance who made WoW great back then, left the company years ago. You cant recreate the vibe of Mona Lisa without its original artist, Da Vinci. His son could do it but it wouldn't be the same. And Metzen is just one piece, you need the whole crew. Either way this could be a start to a new classic+.
Classeless System might sound cool for solo or PVP but im not sure about raids or Dungeons ... im scared that it will destroy the Role play aspect and everyone wants to be Tank

Yes. They're taking Classic closer to retail with this. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends with retail's respec system.
And more raiding = more instanced content taking people out of the open world. Every move they make is going to make Classic more like retail.
Honestly having the level cap so low at first makes it so people like me who play casually wont be left with nothing after the first 2 days of launch. I like it.

As I thinked, blizzard started to copy of many custom and mod servers from private communities. When they added the dps/support spec of evoker, it wasn't for sure a coincidence because I saw in a private server a support rol on developing.
I really dont mind them just revamping old vanilla content. I know the sweatlords are screaming because they dont have sims that show the best in slot for the new BFD raid, but thats what makes it fun, the discovery. This is all they have to do for classic+, just update abilities and class flavor, redo some of the dungeons and raids with new mechanics and new loots. Classic is just so formulaic now that it takes all the fun out of it.

Honestly sounds like a lot of fun, defiantly going to give it a go.
This is exactly what I knew classic+ was going to be when done by Blizzard, especially since Holly Longdale is at the helm. She was in charge of Everquest's progression servers and they all went about the same as you can expect WoW's to go. Each year one or two progression servers would launch with new "fun twists" on the game to get people to relevel over and over and over. After doing this for about 5 years people got tired of it and just stuck to whatever server they were on before which splintered the player base of these servers more and more to a point where all of these progression servers are ghost towns.
What I was hoping for was that they would incorporate a lot of the great changes that these private servers have made, like Ascension and Turtle, and take the game in a completely new direction. While remaining true to the classic gameplay and theme. What would happen in alternate Azeroth if the dark portal never opened? Stuff like that. Seems like they might try out new ideas for end game content by the presentation, but I really hope this season of discovery turns into a permanent fixture of the future of Classic.

They made retail wow ascension. Not as cool as classic+ but it still a interesting. People just won't be able to race to fly through all the content to reach max level as quick as possible, which isnt really much of a bad thing for the average player

Let’s be real, Classic Plus was too good to be true. Why spend money and valuable resources on Classic Plus when they can do the minimum amount of work and focus on the real cash cow
TBH This is closer to what I wanted, not huge class changes, just enough to make shaman tanks viable, ret paladin dps viable, etc.
I feel like theyre only doing this because even on populated servers, every group is sitting and waiting for a tank. The simple solution to this was just make pally tanks and feral tanks more viable but ahh well, ill try it out. I just hope its not dual class like Mage learns flash of light , that kills class fantasy and makes the game grey and boring
It would be interesting if they got healing in quite a different way, like a healing ward that makes it better to not just have one tank, but to spread out the threat.
@@snuffeldjuret Mage seems to me as if they're gonna combine healing and damage. I don't think just spamming that 3 sec chanelled ability is good so I think they're most likely going to either just focus on healing one tank with damage or both. I think its viable in dungeons because we only have like WC and Deadmines (And RFC for Horde I guess) unless those are not runnable. and in raids you're not solo healing so I think it has a shot of being a healer that can push some dps.
Pally tanks and feral tanks are viable now, or at least in theory they are because they’re giving them all the stuff their dogass vanilla specs were missing.
Sounds promising, as Classic+ as could realistically be hoped for. Were people hoping for High Elves and Tier 6, 7 and 8 for their Classic Era characters? At least this mixes up the levelling experience that so many people say they love and then use rested xp to skip past.
Yeah now nothing is left to the imagination, people were always gonna be disappointed because everybody had a different idea of what "classic +" was gonna be and it's expectations vs reality. I'm surprised they're doing anything at all especially something as wild as this.
its different. not sure how i feel about the new classe changes they mentioned. race/combos plus some newer raids and dunegons sprinkled 0-60 would have been what i wanted. but they decide dto copy a different wow clone not turtle wow.

this is great. it solves the power creep of aq and naxx gear. and it adds content for all lvls and content to the world if there ever is a "fresh" server in the future
and all the nay sayers can join in after they have seen how much fun we have, and still be able to discovery new stuff along everyone when the cap is increased to... 40? 25 40 50 60 seems like logical steps every 2 month.

@@James-kv3ll That's "literally" not what this does. Your cap is level 25, meaning you're removing a large portion of the game. Classic + was about adding in _more_ content to the game. This is not the same thing.

This is actually a good idea not gonna lie
People hyped for class mixing reminds me of that experiment where people made to be bored for long enough would choose to shock themselves just because pain was a change from the boredom. Nothing about the idea is actually good, the entire point of classes existing in the first place is to have well defined roles and play styles. But it's being accepted because WoW players are so bored of WoW that they will literally take any change that feels experimental. What people don't understand is that erasing class identity will make the classes less memorable and distinct, meaning they are literally making the game more boring in the long run.
TBH this gives me more just retail vibes, than classic ones.

Wrath Classic is still on and recently released Lich King patch. No way in hell are the people in their long hard earned fully enchanted epics going to stop play it, ditch all that work progression and start playing SoD in 30th of Nov. Not going to be able to be playing with my friends if so...play SoD all lone, yay...
We asked for Classic+ and got Retail-with xp boost, tbc/wrath/cata abilities, rogue/lock tanks, mage healers etc, That is NOT Ckassic. Period!
All they needed to do was to tweak some classes, not break em into other class roles on that subject. You could say we got Classic- beta (SoD).

I regret that I didn't mention anywhere that I would guess next season would be season of discovery (as I could have said I told you so :P). It makes sense as it leans away from increased difficulty and more towards the concept of classic+.

The reason it's capped at 25 and no ptr is because they have no idea wtf they are doing, and every increment will be based on public reaction to whatever they release. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, after all blizzard has become famous for nerfing fun.
I like this idea. Raiding and living at every few levels is going to make us live in the lower level areas and change up the playstyle a lot.

This seems more interesting to me than Classic+ because it is seasonal. They can just screw around a lot more and do stupid shit with the game and it doesn't matter as much. Of course, that's under the assumption that they will, but if we have warlock tanks and mage healers, it doesn't seem too unreasonable.
@@Odyssey636 They've simply learned that you can't please the crowd. If people didn't get their panties in a bunch whenever they did anything, they'd be more willing to make changes. The problem with Classic+, because I'm assuming you're one of the ones who want that instead, is that you don't even know what you want. You want some things that were added in later expansions, some don't. Some want talent tree overhauls, others don't.
There's no way to please people. At least with seasonal stuff it's gone after the season has ended.

@@CottidaeSEAyeah this is making us experience the game we all love without adding in things nobody can agree on. Living at level caps of 25, 30, 35, etc is going to be really interesting and open up a lot of experimentation. I can't wait to try it.
@@noname-gp6hk Yeah, the level cap stuff is in my opinion quite brilliant. It lets us experience content from a very different perspective. Suddenly the gear from Deadmines, Stockades and SFK is pre-BiS, leading to a lot more optimizations at those levels. You'll have a bunch of random world drops that will just slap people into a second dimension.
Not only that, but it means keeping up with the pack will be far easier and the population will be far less spread out, making world content far more interesting as well.
So far it sounds like Retail 2.

What was so cool about classic and truly felt classic? The leveling, the world, the tediousness and feeling of accomplishment reaching the end. What does Blizzard do? Cut the leveling short straight into ENDGAME! Instant gratification here we come! I never thought they could pull of an interesting classic+ but still hoped they would somehow, well here we are now, whomp whomp whomp.
Instead of making tweaks to actual classic, helping the hybrid specs a bit here and there and add 2 dungeons and a new raid on the same level as Strat/DM and Molten Core. NO LETS FLIP THE TABLE AND MAKE SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW! Oof

Explain how this isn't classic+? New abilities (hopefully to balance some of the ridiculously imba stuff in Vanilla and make more classes/specs playable), new specs, and new content, including an entirely new raid. And they said that's just the beginning and the level cap will be raised. We could definitely see new dungeons and raids with *mostly* Vanilla attributes in the future.

It's not classic + because it's not progressing the quest lines that didn't get finished in classic, balance out classes, more content to dead zones. Extend the end game content, emerald dream raid, furbolg raid etc. This is just complete new nothing to do with actual classic lmao.
