Same here, man. As we speak now that is 2024, 20 years ago, I was about to turn 16 in about a week and would start 2nd year of High School (classes start generally from mid to late March where I live). I had some hiccups (mostly school stuff) that year but, in general, it wasn't as rough as 2003. Other than that, after passing that exam, my parents bought me a new PC, to replace my old toaster that, even with some upgrades, couldn't run games from that period well. Games, anime and a bit of music was all I cared about. I wish I could get along with my classmates better (or to be more social in general) as they weren't bad people per se. The jerks and annoying people usually don't last long and had to repeat a year or two. Back then, most schools weren't as lenient as they are today, they wouldn't put up with your bullshit or misbehaviour.

2000 - 2008 or thereabout the greatest time for videogames, so many genre defining games and the SOUL of early 2000's edge mixed with the limitations of the hardware made for some great GAMES, not just soulless eyecandy like we have today with the UE4 and REE & Unity games they crap out every year.

I don't see it entirelly that way.
Nowadays those small UE4 and Unity games are the ones that brings new core gameplays, AAA titles on the other hand are doing more of the same, they are not risking any money in making something new.
2000 to 2009 was insane for singleplayer games, each company was risking doing their own gameplay style, and each year the jump in physics and graphics were insane every new year, nowadays gameplay and graphics are pretty much standartized, just look at dark souls and how many "clones" we have from it, only indie devs risks in creating something new with a very very limited budget.

    • @savethebees275
      @savethebees275 3 года назад +11

feel like the advancement of games has ironically limited them since gaming graphics has increased by an insane amount. publishers/consumers would rather have a extremely pretty linear game with laws/rules to reduce hardware load, than an extremely creative one with minimal game laws/rules. good example of this is halos 1 - 3 vs halos 4 - 5

    • @Brain_Food-

The games nostalgic to me are Call of Duty 1 and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. Even though the Call of Duty: United Offensive (2004) is shown here and I never played it. I played it's older one Call of Duty 1 (2003)

Truth be told I played basically every game on here but the 2 that hit the most are GTA SA and PoP Warrior Within, got them both for Christmas 2004. Can't believe that was almost 2 decades ago.

2004 was objectively the best year for videogames. We got so many smash hits that year that are still extremely popular to this day.
-People back in 2019 and 2020 were in love with WoW Classic when it rereleased.
-People still mod the shit out of Half-Life 2.
-People still play Halo 2 on MCC.
-Dawn of War and RTW are considered some of the GOATs of RTS gaming. (Albeit, most people play DOW Soulstorm over base game which released in the later 2000s)
-GTA SA is still a ton of people's favorite GTA game and mod the hell out of that as well.
-While CSS is considered the Black Sheep out of the mainline CS games, it was still incredible for it's time.
-Sims 2, while not mentioned here, was and still is an amazing game also with an active modding community.
I can go on for days about 2004's gaming releases.

I recognize most of the games but for me the big nostalgia hits are NFS Underground 2, Rome: Total War and Dawn of War. I liked San Andreas but not to a huge degree and Half Life 2 really doesn't feel "old" since it runs extremely well on a modern system and the physics system has held up superbly.
