    I’ll never forget sitting and watching One Man’s Dream with my brother (who was 10 at the time) and being a 10 year old boy he wasn’t super emotionally open or nostalgic…but he teared up watching that show and as we were leaving he said “it really shows you CAN do anything”. I think the more young people that can be inspired and have a connection with Walt Disneys story the better it will be!

      THAT'S IT! That great film tribute to Walt did the "trick"! Keep showing that film AND exhibit! Do we need a 3D robot of Walt, honestly???? We don't think so! The real Walt Disney was recorded on films! Please, do showcase that and don't show off with a robot that can have failures ... in front of live audiences!

    The best way for Disney to honor Walt's legacy is to provide quality and value for every parks guest. Maintain the infrastructure and be sure the place is clean. Make sure the rides run properly. Fill performance areas with performers. Do the extra "magical" things (*Magic Express*) that the other parks don't. Look, I'm sure the robot will be neat - but I get the impression that the man himself would be more concerned with the stuff listed above, than them putting him on a literal pedestal.

    I grew up in the 1960’s, so I grew up watching Walt every Sunday and followed Disneyland and the WDW closely. So I get what Tom is saying that so many people going to Disneyland just don’t really understand that Walt was a real person who created all of this. So for me, this is great!

    The new Peter Pan scene is great - simply put, it's gone from an outdated caricature of Native Americans to an authentic celebration of Native Americans. It's plussed up the attraction, a perfect elevation of the attraction.

    • @ninjagirl226
      @ninjagirl226 23 дня назад

      I’m going to be honest the new scene is arguably just as bad when you compare it to the old scene.
      My sister works for a native school so I do have some exposure to the culture. The biggest issue with the new scene is the lack of the feathers.
      Being given a feather is a high honor, and in the original version almost all the Neverland Natives had feathers signifying their status and accomplishments.
      In the new version, only Tiger Lily has one. Showing the other Native haven’t accomplished anything and that only she is important.
      It’s kind of sad. And with how the Natives feel it’s kind of rude and feels like Disney is trying to force stereotypes on them. Why not show that Natives can have these massive accomplishments?
      And it’s coming off to me personally as very offensive as one of my sister’s students was murdered last week. He never got a feather. It just doesn’t sit right with me seeing this scene and thinking about that poor boy and the rest of my sister’s students and how they will likely never leave the reservation. That they will be trapped in this cycle.
      Why can’t Disney show positive representation of Natives to give them inspiration?

    Sure, lawyers have a job but the idea that a free Disney + trial shields Disney from lawsuits for perpetuity is so absurd it makes Disney a laughingstock and appear just plain cruel. Existing law concerning retail tenants should have sufficed for their defense.

    • @SafetySpooon
      @SafetySpooon 25 дней назад +1

      But what shields Disney from this lawsuit is that Disney neither owns nor runs the restaurant.

    • @miisvegas
      @miisvegas 25 дней назад

      @@SafetySpooonDisney may not own nor run the restaurant, however they are the lessor and must have a pretty in depth contract, as Raglan Road is on the MyDisneyExperience App. and participates in the Disney Dining Plan. So, this tragic event is not directly the fault of Disney, but legally there could be some culpability.

      In Marketing there is usually a legal hired to ensure a marketing idea/concept is legal to go forward.
      For a lawyer team at least one Marketer should be there to tell the lawyers before any announcement is put forth: "Are you nuts?! You have a perfectly fine defense already and that Disney+ legal idea should only be the nuclear option of last resort! It will hurt our brand which will cost money or give ammunition for attacking influencers or politicians."

      I hate to tell you but inside every major corporation that has multiple entities, this is normal. Even with Apple who gets very petty at times. The problem is most folks do not understand that any corporation’s duty is too their investors - no one else. Years ago when Disney had these large annual meetings at the Anaheim convention center I use to go and it always stuck with me they would constantly refer to the corporation as “your company” (to us, the stockholders).

  • @UmmYeahOk
    @UmmYeahOk 25 дней назад +14

    I was wondering about Ragland Road ownership. With all the media coverage this has gotten, I had to assume Disney owned it, especially since they used the Disney+ trial contract to get out if it. Rather than flat out say “hey, that’s not us.” they say “sorry, you signed a contract!” I mean, this is a PR disaster. At this point it doesn’t matter if Disney is innocent. “You can’t sue us because several years ago you signed away all your rights in a waiver” yeah, that’s not ok.

      @MartyNev6 25 дней назад +3

      Yea, absolutely. This is the biggest issue I have seen with almost all cocerage of the allergy situation, nobody actually talks about how Disney has zero liability or responsibility over what happened, and only focused the specifics of their arrempt to get removed from the lawsuit, and not that they should never have been named in the lawsuit to begin with.

    • @johnstanczak8161
      @johnstanczak8161 25 дней назад +2

      I’m not a lawyer but are we sure Disney has zero liability. They do lease the property to Raglan Road and their app was used to book the reservation and the menu on the app was used to order the food that was designated allergy free on the app. I think it’s possible they could get removed from the suit but I don’t think it’s guaranteed. The big question is if the suit is only 50k, why has no one settled this

There is also a huge disclaimer at the bottom of every online menu that the customer should speak with staff, but it's ultimately the customer's choice to eat there or not. This is an unfortunate situation, but the only ones liable are the staff that told her it was allergen free, and by vicarious liability, the Raglan Road group.

I do recognize the risk of cross-contamination or other possible error whenever I go to a restaurant. There is always that possibility of a mistake. I mean much in the same way that lawyers will add everyone they can to a lawsuit even those that are not directly involved, as in this case, in order to up the money that can be gained, the other side is that legal teams will do anything to get out of it. Honestly I'm happy Disney did this, because hopefully this will bring more of these crazy EULA that we're forced to agree to, I know I had to agree to similar terms with Google because I use their play store to add apps to my phone, and speaking of phones Samsung regularly sends me "we've updated our terms of service" that I'm forced to agree to to continue using a phone I paid for, but hopefully this spotlight gets these silly terms mentioned as illegal in the same way right to repair laws can not void warranties if a sticker is broken and it also makes it illegal to actually state that it is.

Whoever shined a flashlight on it really hurt Disney. It's much better that customer agreements and legal waivers stay OUT of the news and away from the public eye. Nobody reads these things and honestly, that's the way it still needs to be moving forward.

    When I brought my kiddo 10 years ago, I explained to him that when the movie was made, while it was a ghastly depiction, it was a snapshot of American history. Perhaps Disney should require all coporate executives to view the Walt Disney Animatronic show once a year and help them stay true to Walt's vision. It's a cinch they have strayed too many times in the past years for the sake of the $$$, at the expense of the guest/customer.

      This is exactly what I always have said. This sensitivity stuff is needed on somethings and really goes too far on others. There needs to be a line of demarcation that is some kind of check-valve that stops things going to stupidville. Find common ground and display THAT. They never do that these days. One way or get a label. That is completely NOT being inclusive. Inclusivity and sensitivity is only for one side. If you are NOT on that side, they could not care any less about YOUR views, beliefs, thoughts, feelings, culture, etc.. That is the height of hypocrisy.

    1:04: I'm a little confused, what does being a Disney plus subscriber have to do with suing the company? I've never seen anything on the Disney plus website that prohibits subscribers from suing the company should they see fit to do so. I'm saddened by this news and my heart goes out to the family.
    4:09: I love the new Neverland Natives figures. I'm glad they decided to tweak the figures instead of removing them. This is what they should have done with Pirates of the Caribbean but I digress.
    16:57: Tom, I don't know how to elaborate on what you've said because you said it perfectly. Like you, I have the utmost respect for Walt Disney and the magical legacy he created so I'm very happy to hear they are going to use archival recordings of him for the new animatronic. It's going to feel like stepping into the past, like walking into Walt's office and sitting down with the legend himself. Thank you for everything you and your staff do to continue that legacy.

    "People are offended by this and I just do not know how..." (Tom).... Welcome to what MANY people think about this progressive stand Disney has taken. Lots of the "sensitive" things are really stretching credulity. The "sensitivity" thing has to have a median to it. Meet halfway. To just scrape off something entirely is NOT being "sensitive" to ALL sides. The only correct thing is 50/50. Not 0/100 or 100/0. There needs a line of demarcation that is the limit on this stuff. Lots of the changes are just not credible. It is trendy band wagon jumping and trying not to get "canceled" by the progressives in power. Some people get offended. Okay. Noted. make SOME changes. 50/50. That is a two way street. Respect BOTH sides and not just the progressive side. Everyone is not just progressives. Respect that and find the COMMON ground. This is how we move forward. Finding common ground and DISPLAY THAT! 50/50 is fair.

    24:30 Great! More for me to talk to Disneyland about. They really ruined the experience on Tuesday. At least 25% of the rides were closed for the project or refurbishments. The rest of the rides: some of them breaking down and a similar situation at DCA. that day Disneyland became guest rude day. I’ve never experienced so much line skipping and ill treatment by guests. It’s really disgusting behavior. I don’t come to Disneyland for everybody to pay to have a bad attitude. More closures that means less people eaters and more bad attitudes from the guests.

    Disney most certainly can be sued for the Raglan Road incident. That’s why they are named and that is why they were using the Disney+ and Epcot arguments to force arbitration. (They have now announced they are letting the matter go to court). I happen to agree it’s unlikely Disney will be found at fault, but that’s for the court to decide.

If yes, did she have her own Epipen? Were questions asked about ingredients of the food & drink prior to placing an order for the aforementioned? The reason I ask is because I have food allergies myself.

    Awesome first studio audience Tom! I hope to go one day soon!!! Question: at 20:38 you said, “…I get those are Walt’s wishes…” I know you said it fast and in context of your full opinion, but is/are there specific Walt Disney will or final wishes that you are referencing in relation to his parks and the company (even larger than just this animatronic)? If you could mention in a future broadcast when this comes up again that would be awesome; otherwise are there any reading/sources that you recommend referring to this point?

    While I am still concerned about today's agenda putting words in Walt's mouth that would NEVER have come out - Seeing him in Audio Animatronic would be very emotional. Having grown up, after his death, seeing Uncle Walt on television every Sunday, he is a very important person in my character make up. This would be very cool...

    For 100 years, film with audio has been enough to relay what people looked and sounded like and could portray them accurately. Walt Disney was one of these people who was captured on film and is thus known by 99.9999% of people who know him. Nothing is gained by watching a latex mouth move.
    Lincoln, on the other hand, has no such reference.

    First off, I liked the large pictures of musicians on the wall at all star music. Especially The Beatles one. 😉
    Kids could've looked at the pictures and asked their parents 'who's that and maybe started a discussion about music.
    Second, in regards to the Walt animatronic, I wonder if the imagineers could project his face onto it (like they've done to the Frozen ones) to make it even more lifelike.

    7:58 yeah I think the update is appropriate for Peter Pan. Pirates: they shouldn’t have erased history. What they probably should’ve done instead is maybe change a scene to one about women pirates. That would’ve been appropriate instead of racing history on Pirates.

    Y'all seem to forget that the indians live in Neverland not the real world. They weren't supposed to represent real indians. It's a cartoon and fictional. There was no need to change the scene. It just looks weird to see modern real world indians in a fictional land.
