      I live a few miles from segment #10 from the MST. I enjoy hiking this piedmont (flat land) segment. I have segments 1-4 in my plans. I think the trail is fantastic but there are a few major flaws of the MST. Too many miles of road walking and lack of (legal) camping is a huge bummer for this long distance trail.

    Love it! The MST is such a unique trail and by far my favorite...so different from other long distance trails. I feel like it is more about the communities you travel through and the people you meet than the grand views and beautiful scenery (although it has that too 👍). Diverse is certainly an understatement. Enjoyed watching!

    • @taratreks
      @taratreks  2 года назад +2

      Thank you for watching and your comment. I agree about your assessment of the trail. The communities and people you meet out there are interesting to experience. I had more good moments than bad.. but there was a very diverse range of types of people (that aren’t trail angels btw.. they were always lovely) that either want to say hello and help you out OR sick their dogs on you behind the no trespassing signs.

    🌮🌮! I absolutely LOVE it! I completed the trail in 2021 and agree with you about the diversity, support and seclusion. I was inspired by the diversity of nature and culture of each segment. I pasted through so many different ecosystems and communities. I also could not have completed the trail without the FMST trail angel support. Such fond memories of meeting all the MST angels and some folks that were just hiker community angels 😇. Like you there were long stretches of hours and days without seeing or talking with anyone. Time like that really let’s you settle into your own thoughts. I’d like to add that I also love the MST because it’s a trail that you can bike and paddle some of the segments for an added adventure. Thanks for promoting the positives of the MST! Feel better soon!

    Get plenty of rest, fluids, vitamins C, D, and Zinc. If you feel cold, take a hot bath. Keeping your temp up prevents the virus from reproducing. You can start to get better but, then relapse if you don't take care of yourself through the complete recovery. Interesting video. Good Luck, Rick

    Great video! I grew up between North Carolina and Virginia, and have my sights set on through hiking the MST eventually. I’m sectioning the AT and want to get at least half of that knocked out, and my girls a little bit older so they can mostly take care of themselves, before I sit out. :-) The MST has a great story and a lot of great people behind it. I’m glad it’s getting more popular. Maybe by the time I’m out there it will be even more established, but hopefully not too crowded!:-)

    • @taratreks
      @taratreks  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm not sure at the moment. Last time I was there was in 2020 but it was well marked through the mountains. Less well marked through piedmont. Mountains section is also very well maintained

  • @toriangelotti7918
    @toriangelotti7918 2 года назад

    Hi Tara, thanks for a great rundown of the MST. Is the trail marked and complete from end to end? And, if we could could just section hike, where would you suggest for a couple great weekend hikes? Thanks! 🌮🤗🌮

    • @taratreks
      @taratreks  2 года назад

      The trail isn’t completely marked but it is a young trail and for being so young it is well marked. Especially in the mountains where I do suggest people begin section hiking. I’d suggest section 1 or the section with Linville Gorge. But honestly anywhere in the mountains will be fantastic

    Hi All, I'm planning a 3 day backpacking trip with some friends along the MST. Does anyone have recommendations for favorite sections or where to start ? We are hoping to do a little swimming along the way since it is so hot out. We also only have one car, so will need an out and back or shuttle option. A couple members of the group and brand new to backpacking. Thanks for any insights!
