Thomas Oden was one of the most influential theologians of the late twentieth century. He, unlike many influential voices today, saw reasons to expect a resurgence of historic orthodox Christianity in the coming years. Rather than moaning about a decaying culture, he thanked God for signs of life. Hope this is helpful!

Definitely not a mainstream position, but one that I’m happy to fully embrace! Let’s hope he is right. The SF reference is perfect because SF is such a great mirror of our collective gut feelings - the present ones, of course, even if as a gente it talks about the future. I’m often thinking of how perfect it is that today’s mainstream SF is mostly pessimistic, because it exposes the misery of our current culture.
BTW, have you heard about the show “The Chosen”? I never thought I’d go around encouraging people to watch a show about Jesus, but this one is particularly good and intelligent. You can watch it for free through an app. Sorry if I sound like an advertisement…. I have no connection whatsoever with the production. I just love the show.

I'll have to think more to know my full thoughts on this but the ending call to action with fear/hate also reminds me of the story of Jonah really well, as he felt both emotions.

@@CalebSmith3 Awesome to hear! I am a protestant (reformed leaning) and the past year I have seriously been delving into the Church Fathers and also Eastern Orthodoxy. As you can imagine there are some serious theoligical bumps in the road on my journey. Having watched some of your atonement theories videos, I appreciate the humble approach in your discussions. Keep it up!

Except for tea with Bultmann, I've done all those things. Bart was boring, the Popes were fun, and the imams were a riot.

The book in this video about secularism producing nothing new and that its promises of new technology to ease our lives is failing was published in 2003.
It is being reviewed here on RUclips a platform that came out in 2005. If you think you might want to look it over you can download a copy for your smart phone (a type of device first released in 2006) or an e reader (a type of device first released in 2004).
All of this new technology that has come out and made lives easier for millions of people just a few years after the book declaring that secularism is a failure because it can no longer make people's lives easier by technology. With that in mind perhaps you don't need to read this book, the existence of this review seems to have defeated its claims merely by existing.
