@praja93 Yes, that is exactly right. A "private cloud" exists in any circumstance where server infrastructure is provided for just one customer. In some instances, this may even be a whole data centre provided online for just one customer. But more commonly it is a dedicated part of a data centre provided for (rented by) a single customer.
@jazik007 No, Dreamweaver and Flash creation tools are locally installed applications for creating web content. In contrast, all PaaS tools run on a cloud provider's system to create web resources that are then delivered from the same provider's platform.
I'm here watching this video after many years of the first time, just after watching the 100th EC video and also to appreciate how far this channel went, I used to use this very video to help explaining cloud computing to my students.
@prayfortruejustice Thanks for your positive feedback both here and on my channel page. Your support is appreciated. Book sales are still to come, as it is not launched to the world until July / August 2010. This said, Amazon co uk are taking advance orders and offering a 22% discount! :-)
Hiba Samour I would say that cloud consumption is most like SAAS. At least as I've seen it, that term was usex to describe cloud software subscription services prior to the advent of the newer terms.
Well that was just brilliant, first time the penny's dropped with me as I need to remember a lot of information about these Cloud services !! Thankyou so so MUCH !!!
Yes, just e-mail me using my University of Nottingham e-mail address (you can find this easily by Googling my name) -- RUclips do not allow me to enter it here! :) Please also be aware that there is a lot of info on my ExplainingComputers website, and in my book "A Brief Guide to Cloud Computing".
Great introduction to different types of cloud computing services and we often see these terms being tossed around. Thanks for clear messages and illustration !!!
I read the first chapter of your book and I found some very interesting key points to support my argument. You are referenced throughout my presentation! Thank you again!
Short, clear and simple like this one is always the most difficult to come up with and you need to distill lots of information to make it work. Lennon's song should play in the background.
Basically PAAS is an environment/dashboard/control panel where you can manage your IAAS. Say for an example AWS Management Console, Rackspace cloud console (Both are running on the Openstack back-end) & Windows Azure management console.
Great video!! Only nit pick is that your description of PaaS doesn't take into account "open PaaS" platforms like Cloud Foundry, which is gaining momentum. It's open source, supports many languages and services, and allows for portability of code so there's no risk of vendor lock-in with the PaaS provider. The new "Cloud Foundry Core" initiative promotes this idea even further, defining a common set of capabilities that Cloud Foundry PaaS providers should support, and a mechanism to test this.
Certainly good connectivity is required. But I don't think cloud computing is a con. Gartner's survey of US CIOs from Dec 2010 found that over 40% expected their companies to be "mainly cloud based" by 2014. It is not for everybody. But for many cloud computing's advantages outweigh the negatives.
great video! :) It would be great if you can have a video explaning the virtualization at the IaaS levell, as this seems the most important first step to cloud computing as I am reading all around!
Thanks for the great video. I was just wondering if there is any successful example of using cloud instead of supercomputers for high volume computations in the field of engineering?
This is awesome. I'd love to see this content updated for 2023!
I love how the polite Englishman waited until last to plug his book for sources on the subject. Great video!
Incredible !!! Two weeks of online research, can't be half clearer than last 7:10 Minutes.... You're the man!

Dont know why but i was having a really hard time wrapping my mind around this concept, you helped out alot. Thanks!

Thank you, Christopher! This was such a clear explanation of the 3 categories of cloud computing!
Thanks.
could not say more, great explanation and thanks a lot, your video was helpful for me to understand cloud computing in general.
Best explanation I came across on this website hands down!
Wow, thanks!
Still helping people out in 2020, what a legend.
I'm here watching this video after many years of the first time, just after watching the 100th EC video and also to appreciate how far this channel went, I used to use this very video to help explaining cloud computing to my students.
To my surprise, this old video still has a good level of weekly views. Cloud computing was the first topic that really gave this channel a boost. :)
It's not really surprising, the fundamentals haven't changed.
Man this was amazing. i love it. you made it so simple to understand

No problem -- there is also far more cloud computing info on my ExplainingComputers wesite also.
I like the simple way that you have explained it thanks
Great video. Clear, concise, professional and relevant, even though it was produced in 2010. Can't tell why anybody would give a thumbs down.
Excellent presentation. Presenter speaks in a friendly manner. He does not talk down to his audience.
I'm an old techie who has gotten comfortable in the last few years and these are great for catching up on new terms. Thanks!
MrDlt123 i want to ask you if this is the same as cloud consumption models ?!
Hiba Samour I would say that cloud consumption is most like SAAS. At least as I've seen it, that term was usex to describe cloud software subscription services prior to the advent of the newer terms.
Thanx a lot for such a wonderful explanation on SAAS, PAAS and IAAS concept's in such simple terms..Absolutely impeccable..
So this has been around for over a decade. I feel like I've been living under a rock this whole time
Me tooy friend
Im shocked...
2020 and it is the best explanation to entering in cloud computing, easy to understand and clear concepts! Thanks a lot!

@javonoUTube Indeed. A lot of IT people need to start thinking what else they can do other than supporting local apps, LANs and company servers.
I now have a much better understanding of "Cloud Computing." Awesome Video. Thanks.
I am writing an educational chapter on creating cloud applications
your video is very informative clear, thank you so much

This was extremely clear and helpful. Thanks a lot!
No problem -- good luck with your assignment. :)

Wasn't sure whether or not to get a tattoo of you on my arm, or just the haircut. Eventually went the hair route. Love your channel. Ta!
That's a great idea for another video -- I will add it to my list! :)
Short, clear and simple like this one is always the most difficult to come up with and you need to distill lots of information to make it work. Lennon's song should play in the background.
His voice holds certain degree of sophistication! Great explanation though!!
Basically PAAS is an environment/dashboard/control panel where you can manage your IAAS. Say for an example AWS Management Console, Rackspace cloud console (Both are running on the Openstack back-end) & Windows Azure management console.
Very precise and to the point video Christopher. Good effort sir!
