    MyKayla has a past of being controversial. After being named alternate to the 2016 Olys, Skinner retweeted a photograph of the U.S. team with her picture edited over that of Gabby Douglas. In this retweet, Skinner also included an emoji of a white blonde woman and monkey, resulting in accusations of racism thus showing poor sportsmanship, suggesting that Skinner was bitter Douglas had been selected for the Olympic team over her. And please do not get me started on her rude comment about Japanese food..she didn't like their food which is fine but being vocal about it caused an uproar..if you can't say anything nice then don't say it at all.

      Thank you for this context! I kept seeing comments about her being rude in 2016 but didn't know what they were talking about. She's disrespectful. Flat out. You can be respectful and competitive. I think ppl like her think that showing you don't respect ppl says something about them but, it actually shows us a lot about her.

      @@jennamarie2481You're welcome ❤️. Yeah what she did was disrespectful and thoughtless. Hopefully this will be a learning lesson for her...but maybe it won't. I noticed in her video that she commented a lot about wishing she was going to Paris, wishing she was on the team, even asking her husband "wouldn't it be crazy if I was on the team?" and "don't you think I could make the team?"...just things like that come across as jealous and wishful thinking. Her competitive days are over..she has ew responsibilities as a wife and mother imo.

      Accusations of racism? How about just racism?

      @@jennamarie2481Yeah. She has no ability to read the room or tact or to just keep quiet. Smh.

      myk did not 'include' any emoji's when she retweeted that picture. the emoji's were in the original tweet, and the monkey is the see no evil emoji and had nothing to do with gabby or racism, it was just meant to be silly, anyone can see it for themselves if you just google it..

    Regarding Mykayla’s comments, there’s a way to critique and be eloquent w/o insulting people. If she were an articulate person I believe that she could do this but she is not. What Myakayla should have done was kept quiet and pointed the things that were relevant to trials and how the athletes scored. That’s what all commentators do.
    That being said, I’m disappointed that Leanne didn’t make the team. It seems that she’s always just barely missing making the Olympic team. I wonder why that is. She can make Worlds but not the Olympics. Head scratcher.
    As for predictions, I think Simone will probably win AA gold again but I have a feeling that it could be Suni for a number of reasons. We’ll see.

    I'm hating this whole redemption arch narrative, as if they where robbed or something, my love, it's a comp nobody is intitle to win who ever does better at the moment wins, shit happened in Tokio they didn't performe well and that's it. If the girls didn't like their own performances and want redemption within themselves that's one thing but put out this whole redemption arch narrative just sounds bad.

    • @gymnastics_now
      @gymnastics_now  29 дней назад +4

      It’s certainly redemption for themselves, no one else.

    • @tigertank06
      @tigertank06 26 дней назад +3

      I would say it’s more a redemption for Simone than anyone else. Everyone else got the medal that best represented their performances except Simone.

    While I think Mykayla‘s comments were very ill-advised and yes, people have to live with the consequences of their actions, I certainly don’t think that her comments were intentionally malicious. She can lack awareness of how things come across, but she was supportive of the athletes during her watch party. Her comments weren’t very well thought out and some things would have been better kept to herself. The „roasting“ of her, on the other hand, is absolutely malicious and has reached ridiculous proportions. If one adds up the various threads, there have to be over 5000 comments trashing her on Reddit. Fair criticism is fine but getting outraged on behalf of people one doesn’t know and then resorting to vile insults and endless putdowns is hardly showing grace or maturity. There is some real irony when such hateful people accuse Mykayla of being a „mean girl“ when they themselves are jumping at any chance to be vitriolic in their perceived righteousness.

      ........if you put her comments in the Mean Girls movie coming out of Regina George's mouth.......it'd track, I'd believe it...Maybe it was subconsciously malicious but, it was. She wanted to put that on team USA right b4 the Olympics, women she's competed with and should be showing respect...something like a mean girl would do naturally. Cold, shiny, plastic. But, we're all free to our opinions
