  • Property No Enough
I got the inspiration to do this video after watching a documentary shown on SQ inflight entertainment system when I was departing from Osaka back to Singapore. This show was about how Jack Neo filmed “Money No Enough” back in May 1998. There was a lot of scepticism that this locally made movie with a low budget will even be shown in the cinema. Well, it had become a real hit with Singaporeans. This also set the tone for the birth of the Singapore film industry.
Here, I am not going to talk about money no enough. But rather. I am going to talk about property no enough. As we all know. Singaporeans have a love affair with properties. The more the merrier. The bigger the better. But how much is enough? Well, we are going to dig deeper into it. Here, Let’s go!

I stayed in my parents house for the past 20 yrs before owning my own hdb flat. Lived in a large semi-D at Serangoon gardens.
Yes I will say maintaining a landed property is a headache, whether you have maids or not. To vacuum and mop a 3 story house it takes all 4 of us 3 hours. We do such housework weekly. That’s at least 12 man-hours for u. I haven’t count in washing toilets and wiping surfaces, tabletops, cleaning kitchens etc. Also when things spoil and u need to maintain - it will cost you a bomb.
There was once a huge draft of wind uplifted quite a number of the roof tiles, cracked and destroyed some water proofing. How much did it cost to repair? 50k. I don’t think u ever need to pay so much for a lifetime of hdb town council fees for maintenance.
Is there a lot of type to living in a GCB or landed property? Sure, only if you live the atas lifestyle and u entertain guests almost daily. If not, your use of landed house is not much different from your hdb flat, except for the space and size.
Invest in private property as it is safe? Yes and no. If you have lots of money yes by all means by one or two condos. It will be however, SILLY if you overstretch just to buy into the blind prestige of owning a private property.
Really, no one cares whether you live in a hdb, condo or landed.
I am a healthcare professional. The truth is, I have patients who come from the top 1% of the economy in the world - one of them is a ang moh CEO of a luxury brand. He is also a personal friend and he has condo here in sg too. Talk to him he has no airs. He goes to hawker centre and eat too. The truly rich don’t really care about all these status symbols unlike the common misperception.

Yes. Very true. Nobody care where, what or how we stay. We all live for our own life. Most important is happiness. I have too sell big house that is almost soulless. Rather small warm house that bring so much happiness n memories.

I think $3000 a mth is not enough for retirement here if you want to live very comfortably, though not luxuriously. But it will be good if you rent a condo in JB and rent out your flat in SG to suffice the much more relaxful lifestyle there. Am I correct, Alan ?

If one is seriously interested to retire in JB on a long term basis, one would need to apply for MM2H long term visa stay. This would come with certain requirements to be met such as owning a JB property bought from a developer there and certain amount of fixed deposit with a Malaysian bank.
Thus, this would still need some fair amount of financial planning to be able to retire in JB on a long term basis.
But no matter what, using one's retirement savings in SGD to convert to Ringgit to fulfill these financial requirements to retire in JB, still is a more affordable option due to the currency difference.
Therefore, many Singaporeans with some careful financial planning, should still be able to apply MM2H and retire in JB comfortably.

$3k more than enough for me 😁 maybe I have lower cost of living. U can check out my MM2H video.

@alanweeproperty Need to factor in Medical cost.

    • @jeremyow7283
      @jeremyow7283 22 часа назад

@@JaWs738 In Singapore, we are well covered to a good extent by medishield and for some, private medical and hospitalisation insurance.
This is barring any drastic high medical cost chronic conditions such as cancer etc. For many medical conditions, our medishield, private medical and hospitalisation insurance, and medisave can be used to offset any needed medical payments after the heavy subsidies by the government.
If one chooses the government hospitals route instead of private hospitals, the final medical costs should still be manageable after the government subsidies and insurance coverage for many medical conditions requiring long term care.
Even if one has exhausted most or all of one's resources in paying for medical care and is at one's wits end, one can still get financial assistance from social agencies.
Thus, it is rare for someone to have to choose to die in Singapore because of lack of money in medical treatments. As such, I would say we are quite blessed to be citizens of a country whereby our old age medical costs are well taken care of if we do not suffer any drastic medical conditions that requires heavy long term medical costs, and if one chooses to go the government hospitals route for medical care and treatments.

Yes...big must have helper. In Japan. No such things as live in maid. If have. Also very ex. Just nice size will do. My view. Your net worth is not how big your house is. It is your life, health n family n friends. As long don't be in massive debt that compromise your lifestyle.

@ think the current system will change. Maybe soon they also will find airbnb actually cannot cover property and maintenance cost. When i see the report. Rental yield 2% on my property. I think i better put my money in the bank making 3.5% or even 4.7% in usd. Then nowadays too much projection after pandemic will have good amount of tourist coming back but it just falls short.

@@alanweeproperty in plenty of places. I know in philippines they built a lot of condos and use them as airbnb hotels listing them in like agoda. Japan also does that. Vietnam also does that. It seems that alot of people buying property to turn them into rental for yields. But when there are lesser people to rent. rental yields will drop. I think our singapore central area rental dip is also one sign. With depopulation and increasing cost of living and increased taxes due to depopulation. People also cannot afford more. Also there are less people less travel. Maybe even the culture people op to play their phones then to make effort to travel and look the world. Since they can do so on their phones.
