Honestly I’m not shocked about jade looking like Sebastian because the person who design twisted wonderland is also the same person that made black butler
The whole whitewashing thing with Leona and Kalim’s cards (poor Jamil getting dragged down with them) was SO BAFFLING?? Twst was always pretty good with keeping the dark-skinned characters consistent so seeing those cards was like ???? What happened???? my guess is that maybe there’s a new artist working on the groovies and that’s why they’ve looked so odd lately, but idk. Hopefully this isn’t a persistent issue going forward.
Wait... Leona... White wash? I'm not gonna call him exotic if he's white... I like white boys, but there's some weird charm with Middle-East, Latino boys
@@tasiashiraori He's not white, they are talking about how he has been coloured white in some more recent cards, as the video explained. Also you probably shouldn't be calling people exotic regardless of race, it makes many people (especially of the races you described) really uncomfortable to be described with the same adjectives that many use for birds and fruit.
14:50 and as of last year, there was a mistake noticed by Sebek stans, including me, on his recent Halloween card involving his eyebrows (they looked normal where they’re usually drawn as like lighting bolts kind of). The staff then proceeded to fix the card in like a few days, really shows where their priorities are there. 😞
I think if we learned who did each card art, because they do commission multiple artists, we might have a better way of understanding why the Leona and Kalim cards had their skintones muted/whitewashed. Speaking from experience as a handdrawn artist, i already have trouble coloring white skin tones, so it really intimidates me when i want to try coloring a character with a darker skin tone. As i fear i may go too dark, thus possibly offending darker skinned fans, or too light thus white washing the characters. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I SHOULDN'T KEEP PRACTICING. If i want to be a better artist, then i need to overcome this hurdle. But as an artist i also understand that some artists prefer more muted colors when coloring as it is an artistic choice. Sometimes with Gacha Card games they commision multiple artists to design the cards with each one recieving copies of each character's basic design. Is Twisted Wonderland one of these Multiple artist card designing games? I am not 100% sure and i have been doing research. Sometimes these things are either not mentioned or google just refuses to cooperate. I do agree that Leona, Kalim and Jamil look white washed in these cards. I just think if the artist is new to designing Twisted Wonderland cards then maybe we should cut them some slack and see if they improve in the coloring of the darker skinned characters department later down the line. Or at least hope that their attempts at drawing the paler skinned characters makes them look sickly because at that point we can chalk it up to an artistic choice and not something worth crucifying him for. No art nor artist is perfect and we try to capture our subjects the best that we can in whatever our medium is. What matters is that we earnestly try to improve with every work we create while still trying to stand out. Whitewashing is a very complicated subject when it comes to animation and the like because of the artist's choice of coloring. With live action it is a much more clear cut because the actors are live people. I appologize if i came off as very wishy washy. I understand this is a hot button topic. I was raised in a family of artists so the topic of artistic liberties and intent was drilled in my head at a very early age. So it makes me very conflicted with the moral injustices in whitewashing. I guess i try to justify it as "if people are allowed to have different artstyles then why not coloring methods?" Or "if the characters didn't rely on realistic human skintones (like how mlpeqg had wild skintones), would this still be an issue?" I hope i at least made some sense. I hate the idea of offending anyone because i really do want to improve in my own skills and learn from other artists.

And now Jamil is on the chopping block of filler cards with the Applepom rerun on JPN servers. At least his skin is colored correctly this time 😅 Can't wait to not read about his experience there I still remember my reaction to Lilia's dorm SSR where I was taking in everything else like "Oh wow this is such a beautiful concept and it looks so pre- WHAT THE F U C K IS THAT"
38:35 as a pjsekai player id disagree with this that they have their trauma moments all the time. There are plenty of events where they are shown having fun and goofing out
Brightlight doesnt make a darker skinned character as light as they are portrayed here. Light bounces off of skin. While like can make you look slightly lighter. It doesnt to that extent. I say this As a darker skinned person myself.
it’s just that twst HAS cards in which they’re in bright light and they don’t look this white. ik ppl love the “it’s just the lighting!!” excuse but in this case it’s so obvious esp when Jamil has a card in the exact situation he was in in the card he was whitewashed in and his skin was the right color.
@@honeyandclove ooh okay yeah i looked at the other cards i see what you mean I think a lot of it is that Japan and japanese people like super light skin (and i mean in the past, women had to put on ghost white powder to look “good”) so I’m guessing the artists are trying to make it as light as possible without people noticing, except in this case it failed. I’m sure a japanese person wouldn’t mind at all if they were made even lighter than this It’s similar to Genshin where their “dark skinned” characters are barely darker than a regular white person. Same thing with project sekai, their skin is super pale

Listen if Disney ever pays the artists and developers just a smidgen more to release cards that are ANYTHING like the pjsk cards (detailed heartbreaking emotion, different artstyles like in the new year cards, or just in your face compositions) I would be aggressively HOARDING until the sun burns out. There's just...so many options they could do because if they've already broken their rule of "the groovy has to represent a moment in the vignette" they might as well crank it to 11 and have me on my knees I get it, the game has a specific artstyle to keep, but is that really any excuse when other games like pjsk, enstars, and bang dream! also have signature artstyles but keep pushing the limits further and hit so unbelievably hard (most of the time)? (new year cards I'm looking at you look anything like the pjsk new year cards and you will be the first game I open my wallet for) (I kid you not if Malleus had a card that looked like Akito Shinonome's new year card I would so in love and at his mercy)
What I’m personally thinking is that TWST is starting to get less funding and is on its way out, which is the WORST suspicion I wish I didn’t have reason to have. They’re cutting down on vignettes more and more, forgetting to put out cards in the EN server, and the quality is getting worse and worse. I’m really suspecting we are going to get a notice sooner than later that twst is coming to an end and it’s breaking my heart tbh. 💔💔

Not Vil calling Leona pretty three times and being the only one to do so

I will cry if he doesn't have a vignette
That's what Jade's Dorm Vignette is about??! I've always wondered what he was doing =v=
