The Movies that inspired GTAV's Missions #1

- Rockstar takes inspiration from more than just cars for their games. This video showcases some of the best examples of movie scenes that inspired mission actions within GTAV.
If you have suggestions on other movies, shows, cars, games, or anything else used as inspiration by Rockstar in GTAV or their other games, let me know!
I love making these videos. Is it wrong of Rockstar to use other peoples ideas? Have you seen these movies (Terminal Velocity is so bad it's almost good...)? I was thinking, I wonder what movies will be used in GTA VI...

hello im makin videos again, don't worry casual vs speedrun will be back within a week, i had to take last week off for life and financial reasons, so figured i'd end my break by giving myself a break from CvS, i love it but i want to make other things. updates and video notices @ twitter.com/FriendlyBaron cause youtube often wont notify and stuffs. im also deciding to open a patreon because i am VERY close to being able to go full-time streamer/youtuber but youtube has cut ad ratios lately, so its either patreon or taking sponsors, so if you want to help me out financially for some neat lil benefits, you can do so here www.patreon.com/friendlybaron
(if you reply to this comment i will read it but youtube makes it hard to reply to, if you want a reply then add a new comment to the video, not to this pin, thanks!)
if only i had money 😔😄😄
I love you Baron
did the video get claimed? would almost surprise me if it wasn't lol
@@gaddy555 Amazing no, but i had to re-render 3 times to make it acceptable to not get claimed.
Man, I don't really am a huge fan GTAV but your videos have had a great impact in me, not only because I get to know the little tricks developers use to make a videogame but also it shows how passionate can someone be about his favourite game and I just love that. Keep the amazing work and if you decide to open a Patreon I really hope that it turns out perfectly for you.
A little detail you missed with the Blitz play - Heat reference. In the movie, the robbers wear white masks, resembling hockey masks. In game, there’s an extra mission goal during the set up to get 3 white hockey masks
also, the name for the hockey masks objective is called "cliche". not sure if that is a reference to the movie itself, jason voorhees, or both
ah nice one! will include next time
FriendlyBaron in the last heist, we escape on 3 coloured cars with gold, like in Italian Job
@@FriendlyBaron Nice! Love the videos and streams man, keep up the great work!
U ever notice how one of the characters in Heat looks and sounds like Michael
I like the fact that Rockstar thought to include all of these things knowing that they were basing their game on Los Angeles, the "film capital"
i agree!
That’s actually Hollywood
@@Chuked Hollywood is a neighborhood is Los Angeles
Yea
Including LA Noire, They payed a lot attention towards the city's history.

Nah, its gonna spawn randomly on their backs, like in gta online
The heist in gta 4 is heavily inspired by Heat as well. Another reason Heat is one of my favorite movies
yeah i will probably do a GTA 4 video of this style, its got alot of American and Russian move references
Trevor is based on Waingro
0:19 I KNEW IT, I thought I recognized that car!
Yeah I have had a little toy one and recognized it
Genius
"I Fought the Law.." Mission is also a throwback to GTA SA's "Reuniting the Families" mission, where 2 police bikers about to chase the suspects after throwing their donuts then saying like "Waste of good donuts. Let's roll."
which in turn is a reference to Con Air
I'm in awe of the lengths youtubers need to go to just to avoid getting a copyright strike for material that is textbook fair use.

This and part 2 are great, I’m a huge movie and GTA fan and I had never realized some of the references (even though I’ve seen the movies) very well done!
thanks dude!
The use of the garbage truck in the armored car robbery is a reference to LA Takedown (Heat’s Predecessor). In Michael’s trailer you see him wearing a gas too, which the robbers wore in LA Takedown.
I don't know... The concept is pretty nice... But your voice makes the videos even nicer 😁😁
lol thanks bud

For the Blitz Play mask set up you get a gold if you buy 3 hockey masks for all characters, like in Heat
Also: JB700
JB = James Bond
700 = 007 backwards
Wow
It's actually a heavily nerfed version of the Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger
Already know that long time ago when I was going for platinum trophy.
Good call on the blitzplay one

I love it can't stop coming back to watch this
I think GTA 5 plane mission is like a Uncharted 3’s plane scene
also the Terminator 2 reference was first used in GTA SA in the "Just Business" mission.
Rockstar just loves that movie
That mission was one of my favorites
*"You're just a liability, CJ!"*
- *Big Smoke*
This video is great! It’s shown a new area of the game that I never thought about. A game that I’ve always played and my favourite movie have now become linked together brining a new feel to that mission.
glad you enjoyed! i felt the same, i always knew there were references but never saw them much
Woah!!! Ecxeptional work man...!
Makes me wanna redo all those missions again!
>sees a friendly baron video
>it isn't a speedrun vs casual
>it's still a friendly baron video

Ok hulk
a quick thing you missed in the Blitz Play mission
in one of the setup missions leading up to Blitz Play you have to buy masks for each character. bying three white hockey masks gets you the gold medal objective "Cliche", also referring to "Heat".
yeah someone else mentioned it, will add!
h
This video makes me want to replay Story Mode. Awesome video btw.
OMG! Thank you! I want to watch this films now!)
The Big Score's, "Obvious," route is mostly a reference to Die Hard: 3 with a sprinkling of Heat. The actual robbery of the Union Depository, right down to the method of penetrating the subterranean vault with a large driller, is almost ripped straight out of Die Hard: 3's playbook, with a few differences being the method in which the police are diverted from the actual robbery and how the gold is transported away via helicopters. The shootout in the Maze Bank plaza, after the gold is taken by the chopper team, is essentially a love letter to the final shootout in Heat, when the team hits a large-scale bank and has to fight through extreme police resistance.
The Agency Heist's, "Hack," route is most heavily influenced by the original Die Hard, the F.I.B. building even bearing some resemblance, though not as much as Maze Bank, to the Nakatomi Plaza/Fox Plaza. Starting from the point in which the intended getaway chopper crashes into the side of the building, also in the movie, the team has to fight their way through agency goons to get to a low enough floor that they can repel from the side of the building without being blown around by the wind. Not exactly John Mcclane's ride on an emergency fire hose, but we'll take it. Once reaching ground level, if you picked a decent starting driver or a previous driver with improved skills, you'll be able to make a clean and inconspicuous escape in an ambulance. Take note that Hans Gruber and his goons had planned to escape with Nakatomi's bearer bonds in an ambulance themselves.
EDIT: During the, "Subtle," run of the Big Score, Michael bribes one of the Group Six security guards with a gold bar after successfully stealing away to the underpass/hobo village with the loot. This is also a reference to Die Hard: 3, only missing the line, "Fort Knox is for tourists," which would've made it 1:1, right down to the choreography.
Good call on the "Hack" option, didnt think of that one.
Using semi's to get the cars past the cops at the end reminds me of fast four when they did that to get to Mexico for the border crossing test.

thanks! it sucks i cant make a living off them since i dont do clickbait and stuff but oh well. will enjoy it for a bit longer until i probably have to start working again
@@FriendlyBaron Well, your audience really appreciates your hard work. Work is best when you enjoy it, so I hope you can find a job that you enjoy.
Payday 2 is another great game to play if you love heist movies. They have covered pretty much every major one.
Oh neat, any idea if anyone has made a video or article like mine?
CLOAKER!!!!!
Ahhh I need a medic bag
What I've spotted is Batman: The Dark Knight, Heat, Scarface, John Wick Chp: 1 & 2, and Point Break. Mostly from collaboration
@@pramakassuryanegara2057 yeah, its mostly collabs and not references
Nice work Man.
for blitz play there’s BIG reference to hear. in one of the set ups where you buy masks, if you buy hockey masks for all characters, you get gold for the mission, forgot what it was called
Clicè
“Most of my knowledge came from watching terrible 80’s and 90’s movies”
That got a laugh out of me lmao
Because none of those Movies were garbage, and some of them came from This Decade and The Previous Decade.
I'm glad you recognized it as a joke unlike the other comment who can't accept jokes about their favorites.
I usually don't like these long comparison but this was rather informative. Well done !

...And for a true A-Team fan, this 2010 movie was horrendous!
But great video btw ;) Just found your channel, and since i also enjoy speedruns - you earned yourself a sub.
thanks! and yeah the movie was... well the tank scene was fun at least.
damn, the RH8 is the R35 and the ellegy is the R34, noice, and this video is nice, keep up the great work pal! you just got a sub from me! :)
4:10 vespucci jov from gta online too
More like the 60s original
Somehow..yeah
yep, pretty clear one haha
sorta
5:58 also would like to add it's not the first time Rockstar used that scene as inspiration for a mission on one of their games, as the same scene is referenced in GTA SA Just Business

And the was that online game mode with bikes and big rigs chasing them
They just love that movie
Man I gotta watch Heat and a few other movies cause of this video! thanks :)
Im new in this channel your videos are amazing sir and i subbed
Probably the one you where hinting at, but the traffic lights scene from the big score is also from the Italian job.
The whole mission is
yep!
Awesome Compilation. Hats Off ❤️
thanks!
thx for these cool movies now i have something to do
Great Content Bro, Keep it Up
Oh man Baron your channel just keeps getting better and better!!!
appreciate it!
You forgot (or maybe decided not) to mention that in GTA Online, the adversary mode series “Hasta La Vista” (one of the first modes ever added) is almost exactly like the Terminator 2 scene in the LA river. And the name of the adversary mode itself is a reference to Arnold’s famous quote as well. Either way, cool video!
its just a bit more obvious so i didnt mention it (yet)
FriendlyBaron Cool cool, can’t wait to see the next video!
Why is it Arnold's quote, Edward furlong said it first.
YES!! it was the italian job, god man it was so hard to remember that movie, that scene with the mini coopers was always playing my head!
14:22 you broke my hearth with that sentence. my 80s loving hearth
People need to watch Law Abiding Citizen, its a damn good movie
Fuck yeah. One of the most underrated movies I feel.
besides the ending :)
Meanwhile everyone is forgetting Scarface totally inspired Grand Theft Auto Vice City
not forgetting, im just doing GTAV first :)
@@FriendlyBaron you suck
ray tso fucks ur problem
nobody can forget that
@@trevorphilips7065 Trevor I killed you in the end of the game
the scene taken from terminator 2 is also one of the early missions in gta san andreas when smoke and cj are on a bike not just being chased by a mob but also a big truck which mimics the same drop into the LA river in the game
Watching this video feels MUCH better than that of watching WatchMojo's, they said that they were "stolen", not inspired.
ever heard of a sh*t channel?
Hey, it's nice to see you again
I hope everything gets better now :³
-Sadly I don't know what else to say-
all good bud, thanks
Rockstar Games: We have movies
Ubisoft: We have histories
Infinity Ward: We have our brains
> infinity ward
> brain
oh im not so sure
@@FriendlyBaron he is talking about the modern warfare trilogy, which is absolutely legendary.
I've been reading some of your comments on other threads and you strike me as a douche, or snowflake at best, no offense :).
Also don't blame infinity ward for the stupid decisions of activision, if that is how you're looking at it. Infinity ward makes the game, activision enforces the lootboxes.
Also infinite warfare campaign was beautiful, the game itself was just a case of wrong place wrong time.
@@shalindelta7 Baron has a different opinion to you, regarding a game. That makes him a snowflake? Is that what you're saying? Sounds like it's not Baron that's a snowflake, it's you if it bothers you enough to insult him by calling him a douche.
@@arkhamwayne4566 don't come in and defend a man that can do it for himself like a white knight. you will not have a pat on a back, and that guy is right, maybe not a snowflake but we all can agree why Baron said what he said for what reason.
@@shalindelta7 Snowflake? Douche? Neither. He has humor.
Nice job.
Another ref : In one of the non mandatory mission you find pickups in the middle of the desert and a massacre just happened.
Clearly a reference to No country for old men.
Man you make good videos
And in GTA Online, there was a mode where you get Weeny Issis, which are the Mini Coopers in GTA, and you have to escape the cops, and it was inspired The Italian Job.
yep! well known one

A synopsis of GTA V: "We move on to even more crime"
LOL too easy
There’s also a mission in GTA San Andreas that is based on the movie on 6:20
Same for 12:51
Yep! SA's version is much more literal, GTAVs is more of a subtle one.
@Gameplay sul telefono Funny how it's 1994 and GTA SA was in 1992. The people from the movie must have played GTA SA before doing whatever (Yes i know GTA SA was released in 2004 don't go saying it)
Yep
The mission is called just business
Now, a lot of these are possibly inspired by movies, but still a cool video
Yo that last movie looks crazy good.
Idk about missions but Thelma and Louise is referenced as well
will include!
I think that was just a random event
ZJ GAMEZ yea it’s a random encounter not on a mission
ZJ GAMEZ I know, it’s a one time thing
You forgot about the mission "The Big Score", the A option when you have to steal some armoured trucks. Is very similar to the movie "Armoured". But in the movie they hide the trucks in an abandoned building not under a freeway and they hide the money in a hole in wall not on cars.
The Big Lebowski... a beautiful memory. A man I gave 15 years of my life to before tragedy took him away... showed me the film in our early years together... he said I was the only person he knew that broke down crying over Donny...
~never made the connection, myself, but now I know why Micheal's dream sequence always makes me smile and feel "good/happy" ...it takes me back to that night on his couch at Amber Acres... miss ya, hon...
hey friendlybaron the heat reference is also from a game payday 2, armored transport heists, when the group goes to different locations, drills or either blows the doors with c4, get the loot and escape
Not V related but San Andreas was basically a love letter to 90s gangsta movies
SA was based off the 1992 LA riots.
Marc Amico no shit
@@marcamico5254 yes but it also took inspiration from a 90's gang movie, I don't remember its name but the whole Ballas and Grove street rivalry was inspired from that movie

The Terminator is way more similar in the mission "Just Business" in GTA San Andreas
How?? Just because they are riding a bike in the canals?
Rackie truck in just business busts through railing, and CJ and Smoke are actually on a bike.
The truck actually also smashes through a bridge and lands on the canals
for sure with the truck part, but the red car + black semi is pretty clear in this game too
Wow verry good stuff real interresting
I have been playing the game for a while, but this is crazy!!!
its pretty neat to notice :)
Actually the FIB mission reminded me of the “don’t stop believing” scene from the losers but this is more simlar
This is that kind of stuff im watching when i cant sleep
same tbh
yup that's why I'm watching this right now :D
Entertaining great job
The fame or shame-terminator reference reminds me of the Enter Sandman video from Metallica where the freight liner is speeding at the kid. Thought that was kinda cool haha
The Technical Aqua looks like the floating truck in Top Gear when they cross the Channel.
yep!
A lot of gta vehicles come from top gear, james bond, fast and furious and mad max. There's others aswell probably.
Pre video comment: this looks like such a good video concept
please lower your expectations :^)
I mean, it is a good concept, but it's not particularly unique of innovative. Put it in a list and you have a WatchMojo video (and tons of other similar channels). "Top 10 movies that inspired GTA V." That's not to say I didn't enjoy it, because I did.
Nice job i know that when you made this video it took you alot of time
each video i make takes me ~20 hours to edit alone, let alone getting the knowledge for them
U need to be voice actor BC ur voice is really nice keep up the great work!
hi baron, I like this a lot. You're a great RUclipsr and streamer. FrndTip

Theres tons of references everywhere if u watch alot of movies they stick out pretty easy
After doing each mission I always felt I seen it before! But I never put any of them together like this.
