      @@chadh.6124 Yeah, but there may be a room full of players that don't know how to CREATE those pockets. It's like, we all assume that just because a player is at that level they've already learned how to think like the opposition in order to CREATE pockets--not so. That's what he's teaching, not just seeing them (although that's a skill too), but getting the opposition to focus on the decoy he purposefully sets up in a route.

      @mapstomillions 2 месяца назад +1

      He's thinking about where he's going to be open based on what the D is giving him. Once he knows the defender's assignment (like "cover the vertical"), he'll act like he's threatening that route.
      But he's really thinking about a different piece of real estate. He just wants defenders to move the way they're assigned to move, get out of where Kelce wants them, and then Kelce can run to the open space.
      Basically he's slightly faking routes, but at a high mental level. He knows what kinds of routes the D has to honor, so he kind of fakes those to put the D where he wants them.

      Yeah, it’s notable how he spends most of his presentation discussing how the defenders are supposed to react to what he’s doing. He could be giving a talk on “how to be a middle linebacker,” except he’s exploiting it.
      I wonder if he played defense on teams when he was growing up. It seems obvious but the more experience you have on one side of the ball, the more you can exploit it from the other.
      If I were a coach, I’d make sure to schedule time for joint sessions between opposing players, e.g. get the middle linebackers in a room with the tight ends and explain how to beat each other. Break down the barriers between offense and defense so that you can think like the guy you’re playing against.

There's a lot of misconceptions out there that people believe about athletes that say "Oh he was just born physically gifted that's why he's so good" like no, you can have all the physical abilities in the world in the nfl and it wouldn't matter because everything that happens on that field is a mind game. These athletes aren't just "gifted" these abilities at birth, they all studied their asses off to get where they're at and this just further proves how much learning goes into this game even though it just looks like a bunch of guys wrestling for a ball.

    Travis nuances are his own, he plays more backyard football than anyone in the NFL.
    Mahones did a backside pass to Kelce because he was upset he didn't do the correct route running. In other words you can't cover him because he makes up his route differently every time. If someone does things differently every time, has insane chemistry with his quaterback, how can you cover him?
    The nuances of the man himself, how can you cover greatness?

    • @nickrowe4584
      @nickrowe4584 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah a lot of that is his game, this just showcases how much football IQ it takes to do that and be successful. He can't pass on his chemistry with Mahomes and instincts but he is trying to pass on his knowledge of the defenses and how he trys to break those defenses. If a lot of his game was teachable then the other Chiefs TEs would be monsters too.

    • @RonnieSouthbuckle

      "Mahones did a backside pass to Kelce because he was upset he didn't do the correct route running" - That's the storyline Mahomes gave the press. It was just for headlines. Reality? There's a clip of him doing the same pass in a practice a week or two prior to that game.
      If you look at how the media is covering Kelce and Taylor Swift, you'll see they're always trying to create eye-catching storylines. And the players cooperate with them in order to make it happen.

The game of football isn’t as simple as it seems and the people who are the very best at their position (except qb wr rb) don’t really get the recognition they deserve. The secret to stopping Kelce is jamming him at the line. That comes with some risks because they deploy him differently but if you don't give him clean looks his numbers go down a lot. I think the problem teams still have is treating him like a TE and not a WR.

    I hate Travis Kelce but anyone thats watched enough of travis kelce knows that this guy doesnt run routes, he improvises on the field. His football IQ is INCREDIBLY HIGH, so he’s given complete freedom from coach Reid to go wherever he wants. He knows the coverage and knows exactly where to go everytime. Thats why hes ALWAYS OPEN.
