"I'm Still Here" is a portrait of a tragic and dark moment experienced in many Latin American countries. However, the message, the importance of history, how a government and ideas can destroy lives, is something universal. The theme speaks to the current situation in the United States, with the mass deportation of immigrants and the current president signaling the possibility of something like a "concentration camp". Keeping history alive is not allowing mistakes to be repeated. In a review of I'm Still Here, a black RUclipsr commented on the scene in which Euníce, after many years of fighting, gets the death certificate. It breaks my heart that she is happy, because after a long time, she got the government to confirm that he was killed. It is a bit of dignity returned to this man who was taken from his family, who had to stay together without knowing what had really happened. Returning to the scene, a reporter asks if the State doesn't have more urgent matters than remedying the past, to which Eunice responds "No!". The RUclipsr who had commented managed to see a parallel with slavery, which is an atrocity that occurred in several parts of the world, and that there are people who argue that simply because it has come to an end politically, there are more important things than remedying all the damage and consequences of that! Ultimately, it is a work for the world, a message for everyone, and I hope that more than an Oscar, people watch it and understand its message, the importance of art and history!
