Hey Andy! Jellyman Education here! Also a Tableau RUclipsr My name is Jed and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I signed up for your live events in mid March and can't wait to meet you! I've learned so much from you over the years and you inspired me to also be an online trainer
@@vizwiz Had one more question for you....I'm being asked to find the sum of sales for the last 10 days excluding weekends. Ultimately, I simply want to sum the last 10 days of sales. This for some reason is confusing me. Any help here?
@@ryangarland251 that’s probably best to do via a table calc but it’s not very straightforward. Let me see if I can put a quick video together. It’s hard to explain in a response.
@@vizwiz No worries. Its funny how I can get more complicated calcs to work but the ones you feel are quite simple, give me the most trouble 😂. Thanks Andy!
@@ryangarland251 coming back to this now. Do you essentially mean the last 10 working days? Or today’s date minus 10 days and then exclude the weekends. So in some cases that could be 6 days.
Thank you for this video. I am looking at creating something similar to calculate the first response time in customer support where weekends are excluded.
Informative video Andy, if I may ask about something related to this topic if I want to count how many Fridays & Saturdays in a specific month since the weekend days in my region are Fridays & Saturdays, is it doable? This will help me determine how many working days in that month to be used in other calculations.
Picked up a Great example Andy.. Very informative I've got a scenario where I have to compare the sales where the previous day could be any date where there is available data. How could we achieve this
GREAT video! The text table helped to understand what Tableau is doing with the calculated fields. Just to be sure... The [Order Date] filter showed up because we excluded some dates?
Hi Andy! Thank you for the extremely clear walkthrough. I'm trying to solve a very similar issue and this gave me some food for thought, but while this walkthrough gets me part way there it dosen't quite fit my need. I'm trying to create a view where my prior day counts show on the same row as my latest day counts, so that when the view is filtered to just show the latest day I still see the prior day numbers. Is that possible to do?
Hi Andy, I have a requirement where I need to calculate day over day for a month and finally sum all of them and show one number as kpi card, I used table calculations for day over day but to sum all we need to use lod, as table calc and lod can't be used I am stuck, as it's over a month of data I can't create 30 calculations for everyday and sum, it's not efficient, do u have solution
I work with weekly data (discrete date that ends on Friday). I’m assuming I can use this same logic to compare latest week to prior week? Also, how would you compare latest 4 weeks (so 4 rows of data) to the prior 4 weeks?
For comparing latest to prior, you can follow this tutorial but swap months for weeks. Your second question is 100% possible. You would need to use a couple of datediff calcs to determine which set of weeks each week falls into and then compare those results. Does that make sense?
Hi Andy, I have data where weekends between two activities must be excluded. The two activities are "Sent to Voicemail" and "Voicemail Processed." I need to calculate the day difference between when "Sent To Voicemail" was sent and "Voicemail Processed" was processed, and if there is a weekend between the two, I need to exclude the weekend. I have only the time stamp and the phone number as data for these two activities. Please help!

Mind-blowing clarity of expressions !
That's good to hear. I tried to do that more in this video.
The way of teaching is Superb....
That’s very kind of you, thanks! Is there anything in particular that you found beneficial with my way of teaching?
Excellent content and loved the detailed explanation. Thank you for sharing!!
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for the feedback.
Really well described and loved the start describing what is happening behind the scenes around day of the week
Good to know...thanks! I'll do my best to keep that going.
Awesome job, Andy! Thanks for considering my question!
Any time! Thanks for asking!

Thank you Andy for this excellent video. Very useful and very efficient even watched on my phone during my morning train commute 🙂

All you should need to do is change the date in previous date calc I'm using with the date you want.

Correct 👍🏻

Hi Andy , could you help me with this. can we use parameters while blending from two different data sources. if yes please explain that
Parameters work across an entire workbook. They are not dependent on a data source.
Hi Andy, do you have any resources for the week vs week calculation/viz/r12-r24-r36-r48?
What does r12-r24-r36-r48 mean?

My requirements are complex, I just want to know how to do dayoverday without table calculations for many days like 1 month or 3 months

If I understand your question, you don't have a date field, you only have time. So if that's the case, it's not possible to compare dates.
