      @@reamplabs Thanks, i am sure i will...but dont you know, right after you buy something, you find articles about microphonic ef86 valves...the seller has JJ in there now, and he says it sings with the combo he has in there now...do you have favorite ef86s?
      Tung Sol gold rate well...then of course all the NOS kicking around...i just like to collect opinions. i am going to get a tube damper/heat dissipater to help avoid microphony. It will be my first ef86 amp, so i want all to go well!

    • @reamplabs
      @reamplabs  5 лет назад

      Kilgore Trout I had to replace the EF86 once because it got too microphonic... seems they do tend to have a week spot there... but I never had a problem since then. And it‘s been 3 years. Unfortunately I don’t recall which tube was used as a replacement 🙁...

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 3 года назад +1

      @@VIDS2013 When mine came, i discovered that in a real hurry. i have lately evaluating wattage cutters, or power soaker, whatever... i'd like to be able to half and quarter the output so i can get the full push, but at Home Studio levels.
      Right now i run it thru a Morley volume pedal into and OCD Germanium overdrive pedal, then into the low watt input on the ef 86. i tend to like it over the Top Boost circuit for the style i play in. Think Steely Dan...swingy, jazzish rock with thin growl on top...soo....
      To get to the point...it is even better than i had hoped. i completely rolled all the tubes right out of there after it had a hum, and just didn't sing. i invested a bit of cash in all unopened Mullards, opened and tested thru all 4 required tests, plus 3 other tests, and did test as new. Buzz Audio in Colorado...i think i found him on Reverb. Highly recommended. Now the Vox is
      truly a VOX.
      Yes this cost quite a bit, but they are worth every penny spent. The tube guy is very knowledgeable and we spent 3 weeks messaging about what different types of tube in combo would do different things. He has Brimar, Phillips, Sylvania, RCA, Raytheon, and on and on. Obviously i haven't had bands in over the last yr, so i havent been taxing the tubes all that hard, with just my own stuff. i will say, if you have it to spend, fill a Vox with Mullards, and the original sound is right there. More than handwiring, right there with good caps and transformers. This one came as a mix of JJ & Sovtek, and they were just shit. Nice to lose the hum for recording.

  • @Hakujap1

    Best demo yet. I have this amp and can't seem to get it to drive the way you are getting it to drive. Mine is clear as a bell until it's up to about 10. I've had it for years and kind of relegated to only when I play beatles stuff. I'm going to have to get it out and give it another try. Would have been nice if they threw reverb in there. or at least an effects loop

    • @Hakujap1
      @Hakujap1 5 лет назад

      wait....I'm confused. Did you play an actual guitar through it or did you DI guitar tracks into it?

    • @reamplabs
      @reamplabs  5 лет назад +2

      we use a Reamp V2 box by John Cuniberti in front of the amp and run prerecorded DI guitar tracks through it. However the signal chain is calibrated to 0.1dB so that the signal amplitude at the Reamp Box Output almost perfectly matches the signal level of the direct guitar signal... we’ve made a lot of blind tests and weren’t able to distinguish the reamped signal in comparison to the guitar plugged straight into the amp.

    • @reamplabs
      @reamplabs  5 лет назад +3

      with regard to the drive sounds... the amp is pretty sensitive with regard to the chosen input as well as the used guitar... with a les paul it gets crunchy from anything above 9 o clock as you can hear in the demo. The amp was also recently serviced so I am pretty sure that’s how it’s supposed to be 😉... I really love the amp, especially in a band context... cuts through like a knife!

    • @DaveyGage
      @DaveyGage 4 года назад

      Wow really? I play single coils and it gets thick pretty quickly for me! If i want it clean with even a moderate drummer i mic it up... What guitar are you playing?

    • @Hakujap1
      @Hakujap1 3 года назад

      @@DaveyGage i'm playing all kinds of guitars. My highest output guitar is a music man axis EVH thing. That thing overdrives everything, but not this. I wonder why. Anyway, I've started playing with pedals a bit more and I fell back in love with this thing. Especially if I hit it with a boost, though still not getting the drive sounds just with a boost. That said, it does cut like a knife in a band context. I've given up on my other amps now, though I am thinking of buying a DRRI. Anyway, great video.

    Goes to show something before unknown about the Beatles, who made VOX famous, and the unparalleled magnitude of their talent. They did it OUTSIDE "the broadest range of sounds" possible by using Casino's and Gretsch's. Imagine how much greater they would have been if they had done as in this wonderful video and played Les Paul's and Strat's like everybody else.

    • @VIDS2013

      High Quality Reverbs and Delays are added as Postprocessing in the DAW for each Riff individually... in most cases even more than one in parallel or stacked. It's mostly UAD Plugins. My favorites are the EMT140 Plate, the AKG BX20 Spring and the EP-3 TapeDelay... in addition I use the "Echoes T7E" by Audiority (recreation of an Binson Echorec) and "Reverberate 2" by Liquid Sonics which offers all the Bricasti Presets at a really high quality. Check them out, they are all great for guitar

      @@DubsMood Channel one is all I use. Triode will lower the volume and give you more headroom. bass shift will also add to that, but I prefer pentode with bass shift on 1. As tone goes, Brilliance 1 (vintage setting) is glorious with less overdrive and single coils. I use a full sounding P-90 with a large vintage style closed back 2/12 with Celestion greenbacks. Brilliance 2 rolls off some bass and works best for my setup and works best for me in a mix.
      Also using a well made Dallas Rangemaster clone in Channel one is sound to die for.

The wire used is cheap but he said I probably wouldn't know the difference if he replaced. Just repair if needed. Other than that, very well designed and sounds great. I'll never sell.
