I got to play through my neighbour’s Vox AC30CC2X with Alnico Blues today with his 1991 Rickenbacker 330. The tone of ages! There’s something about the way they break up that’s so dynamic. Love what you guys do.
Now that is a very nice amp for sure. I got a Vox AC30HW60, limited 60th anniversary edition but made in the UK (at the Marshall plant) and that amp is epic sounding also. I did cost me a fortune at the time though, but no regrets lol
I think you guys overlooked the EF86 channel. I now prefer it for overdrive because it is tighter and more dynamic. Just crank it a little beyond what you would the the top boost channel, Brilliant 1, Bass Shift 1, Pentode, High Gain.
Hi, I have the AC15 htvh version. I changed the tube vacuum for (NOS) and it has 1 celestion g12 alnico 1949 and 1 greenback, it sounds phenomenal. I also made a bridge between channel ef86 to TB and it sounds really wonderful. I don't think I'll ever separate
Hey guys - Paul & James, very good demo of this amp indeed. The first switch decide which part of EF86 are you using - triode or pentode. Accordingly, your obtain different levels of gain. Once again the sound of EL84's it's inimitable (the sound of British Invasion). Vox AC30 remains one of the best amps in the history of rock.
Oi, fellas, thanks for the work - I'm pretty sure those 2 Triode/Pentode switches are doing 2 different things: the first one is deciding whether you want the main preamp stage to be a 12AX7/ECC83 (triode) or an EF86 (pentode, more gain, rather unstable!), and the second one is whether to run the EL84 power section as pentodes or triodes (the latter of which will knock off maybe 15-20 watts' worth of output, smooth out the tone a bit, and let you crank up more overdrive at lower volume).
killer amp and great demo thanks, best I ever had was a 1963 vox ac30, I ran a rehearsal studio in west london in the 80's and it was stolen from one of our studio's, they left marshall & sound city & Hiwatt amps, just stole my Vox ac30 - I never really got over it
Reminds me of the tones I get from my MK5:25. There is no mistaking (or avoiding) that HPF'd, mid-centric cut and tone of EL84s. Regardless the make, its easy to spot.
Paul and James, I think that amp sounds amazing more so at edge of breakup OMG I think you got a crazy good deal on this purchase, anyway love your video's and great content!!!
Sounds fantastic….had the ac15hw combo a few years back excellent amp…only thing I would change is the fugly black nuts on the input jacks….great content as always
If you love Vox, you should try a Morgan AC amp. Does the AC30 crunchy drive tones perfectly, but can actually get pristine cleans as well, has a more useful EQ, and great effects loop. So amazing. Even their Morgan AC Synergy module is incredible.
I've never heard a vox AC 30 sound so good, oh its a pedal all the ones ive tried sound pants, i got an ac10 quite sweet but didn't sound like this and it hated all my drive pedals, sent it back, got a boss katana never looked back, keep the fire extinguisher handy
I have this combo version with blue speakers. I use it with Les Paul and get the best sound out of it with normal channel. Brilliance i keep on position 1 (the same that you liked the most). Because it is otherwise too loud, I set the volume about 9-10 so that it's clean if you pick softly and gives Rolling Stones style break up when picking harder. I boost solos with wampler tumnus deluxe and when I need more Guns'n'Roses type of gain I kick friedman small box od in. You got better sound out of top boost channel and I wonder if it was because Tele vs LP or different speakers, so I would be curious to know which speakers or IR did you use?
I was about to say, please make a Tonex patch, but at the end you said you already had. Well done fellas! Another steal. James, please move up north and take over the missus's shopping duties. You have a better eye for a deal and bring exciting things home.
I live in a fender town and get a lot of crap about my 50th AC15…but I love it…that 30 is on my list…this heritage edition was just raw…and through a coupe of blues it’s unstoppable…when it runs…my 15 surfers from that to… That was cheap…really really cheap…wow…luck
My dad gave me this old amp about 25 years ago. Didn't like it, ended up forgetting about it. Dug it out recently, it's a 1963 ac30 with original mullards still in. I'm still cursing my teenage self 😂
@@TheStudioRats If you're not able to get the sound you're looking for with the Road King, the problem's not the amp, it's that you want a different cabinet. Personally I like the sound of 30W Celestions. The Road King's high-power speakers have a darker sound that's not right for a lot of music. I have a vintage blackface Twin Reverb that was recapped ten years ago, and the Road King sounds better through the Twin's cabinet than the Twin does. Before you write it off you might want to experiment with the Road King a bit more.

I own the 15W version, head and 1x12” cab with Celestion Blue. Love it

I bought this amp today, picked it up second hand for pretty cheap and wow.. its absolutely amazing!

Thanks! That was a treat for the ears. It reminded me of how much I loved trying out an AC15HW. Please include this amp in your ToneX pack.
It’s already in its own pack.
@@TheStudioRats Can't beat that for "asked and answered"! Cool!

Sounds great! I have the 60th Edition one, the last Vox made in England, impossible to crank indoors but with a treble booster and OX, oh my!👏🏻👏🏻👋🏼👋🏼
I also own one, how do you listen it with the OX, the Ac30 cabinet or studio monitors/headphones?
Very nice
Sounds gorgeous ! I have an AC15C2 and it stays at home cos I can't lift it.I love it.
Very nice
Wow, gents, you're making lust after the Marshall pedals now, although I'm not a fan of their form factor, great demo as always, cheers
I'd love all my fave pedals to be housed in a Boss enclosure.👍
I’m with you, the form factor isn’t great but they sound great.
these are the best amps Vox has released post 1963. I love my heritage ac15 half stack :)
Guys, I recently upgraded my TONEX CS to SE and your TONEX models are amazing amp to amp!! Thank you. PLEASE do captures of this glorious amp. Please!
We have and it’s uploaded to purchase on tonex.

So sad man😢
Hey Paul, hope your well!

@@ces69 Hi Cecil, all good thanks, hope same for you :)
Love it. Ok big question now, when does your Studio addition start. All these auction buys, must be running out of space! Cheers from Canada
It’s getting a bit cluttered
Sounds great, especially with the Blues Breaker! I love your playing style.
Thanks murlyn.
I have one of these in combo form with 2 celestion blues, I absolutely love it!
Very cool

3:56 "It's clear, it's full, it's rich..." and window-shattering loud at two o'clock on the volume dial.
I own the ac15 version (upgraded with an UK blue alnico and an old Mullard EF86 tube) and is amazing
Nice
Sounds great. Johan sedge born did a video of a '60s Vox , I think a 50, (it had four el84s)which was wonderful.
The best amp I have ever heard is Paul's Matchless. Period.
If you love Vox, you should try a Morgan AC amp. Does the AC30 crunchy drive tones perfectly, but can actually get pristine cleans as well, has a more useful EQ, and great effects loop. So amazing. Even their Morgan AC Synergy module is incredible.
Thanks for the tips
Wait, it has an effects loop? I thought Morgan was 100% against effects loops?

Great amp. Would love to hear it through 2x12 with Blues are Greenbacks. Assuming this was your 4x12?

James, please move up north and take over the missus's shopping duties. You have a better eye for a deal and bring exciting things home.
I have the 15 watt version,it is magical.
Cheers guys. Nice sound...
Thanks for listening.
Hmm... I was considering a Vox AC30HWH... other than the differences in features, does this amp sound better? I'm guessing...
I live in a fender town and get a lot of crap about my 50th AC15…but I love it…that 30 is on my list…this heritage edition was just raw…and through a coupe of blues it’s unstoppable…when it runs…my 15 surfers from that to…
That was cheap…really really cheap…wow…luck
They only made them briefly sadly it has the early AC15 channel with the brilliant switch which is actually a bass cut
you said the same thing about Amplified Nation amps !!
Perfect rock tone !
What cabinet and speaker is this running through?
that opening clip! SHEEEEEEESSSH 🥵
I own the 15 watt version, changed the speaker to an Alnico Ruby, and its a huge bargain but I reckon this video would make the price go up.

That’s a keeper!
You need a DB meter so we can see what "cranked" actually is ;)
I think there's one behind the camera. If the camera had shoulders, the meter is over its right one. That doesn't help the viewers, of course.
Just bought one waiting for it to ship 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
@@TheStudioRats Its awesome! just remembered the channels bleed so by turning up the treble and volume on channel II opens up the EF86 really nice!
Hello...what kind of speakers are you using and is that a stock fender noiseless pickup?
I don’t use noiseless pickups in my opinion they don’t sound good. Embrace the noise. The amp was plugged into a UA OX.
Jesus guys, keep quiet about the auctions will you? It’s just down the road from me and I want to keep it my little secret….
Opening riff sounds a lot like the long forgotten tune of Thunder Island.
"Please pardon the sloppy playing", then melts our faces. :)
Try recapping it!
You forgot to jump the channels.
Ok, now show us how to get those tones in a Katana ;)
Nice amps but extremely LOUD!
Yes they are.
$514 American dollars for that amp?! They may as well have gifted it to you…
** Dribble ** !!
Oh that’s it mofo that’s the sound 🎉 yea
dang... I am doomed
The sad thing is if I played through it it would sound shit
I’m sure it would sound great!
Sounds mid without the right speaker cab. At least use an AlNiCo blue IR if you are missing the real cab.
Literally stopped the video learned the tasty riff unpaused the video
It also might be the worst amp you've demonstrated...
Not one of my favorite demos from this channel. Clean didn't sound very clean at all.
Sorry to disagree, sounds good not great from where I'm sitting, which is next to a Mesa Road King...
You should move
The road king is a completely different amp and in my opinion an amp that does a lot of things ok but not great.
