블록체인에서 영지식 증명(Zero-Knowledge Proof)은 사용자 프라이버시와 데이터 보안을 강화하는 데 중요한 기술로 점점 더 많이 쓰이고 있습니다. 예를 들어, zk-rollup은 많은 트랜잭션을 압축하고 이를 하나의 증명으로 요약해 메인 블록체인에 제출함으로써 처리 속도를 높이고 가스 비용을 절감합니다. 또한 AI와 관련해서 업체들은 영지식 증명과 블록체인 기술을 활용하여 분산형 거버넌스와 프라이버시 보호를 달성할 수 있다고 광고하고 있습니다. 그러나 블록체인에서 영지식 증명이 널리 사용되고 있는 것은 분명하지만, "남용"되는 측면도 있습니다. 영지식 증명 기술을 도입하면 기술적으로 복잡해지고, 검증 비용이나 가스비도 증가하기 때문에 아주 고도의 프라이버시가 요구되는 곳이 아니면 오히려 독이 될 수 있습니다. 본 강연에서는 영지식 증명의 본질에 대해 살펴보고, 고도의 프라이버시 보호가 필요 없는 경우에도 영지식 증명을 과하게 강조하면서 마케팅하는 경우의 문제점들에 대해 살펴보고자 합니다.

Zero-Knowledge Proof in blockchain is increasingly being used as an important technology to enhance user privacy and data security. For example, zk-rollup speeds up processing and reduces gas fees by compressing many transactions and submitting them as a single proof to the main blockchain. With regard to AI, companies are also advertising that they can leverage zero-knowledge proofs and blockchain technology to achieve decentralized governance and privacy protection. However, while it is clear that zero-knowledge proof is widely used in blockchain, there is also an aspect of being "abused." The introduction of zero-knowledge proof technology can make systems technically complex and increase verification costs and gas fees, which can be dangerous unless it is a place where very high privacy is required. In this lecture, I would like to look at the essence of zero-knowledge proof, and point out the problems of marketing with excessive emphasis on zero-knowledge proof even when there is no need for a high degree of privacy.
