In a better timeline, this game along with Clocktower 3 and Rule of Rose were successful enough to not rely on RUclipsrs to keep their memories alive.
This game was a spiritual successor to Clock Tower 3. I bought on release day
🥲🥲🥲🥲
Here here!!
In a better timeline, Capcom would've done at LEAST ports of these three games to modern consoles instead of act like they don't exist. I'd even settle for a digital-only release if it meant I didn't have to use a ton of cords to get my ps2 hooked up to my hdtv rip
@@PrismOpal64 Rule of Rose was from Sony Entertainment and Atlus tho
Haunting Ground, Siren and Rule of Rose deserves a remaster. Now that Fatal Frame is coming back and RE its a huge success, would be amazin have a official chance for them to come back.
Don't leave out silent hill 😓
Rule of Rose was gameplaywise a real horror. They need to fix so many controll elements...
Siren did get a solid PS3 remake to be fair...
Tbh rule of rose only needs a gameplay remake cuz the cutscenes are already perfect
could not agree more with this comment🗣️🗣️ Would love to see the remastered version of haunting ground✨
Haunting Ground is one of those rare cases where I actually wish that there would've been more imitators. I was so happy when I realized that Resident Evil 7 was essentially a modern take on the Haunting Ground/Clock Tower formula, but other than that (and Night Cry, which apparently isn't very good) no one has really made a horror game quite like this one.
You're super right. I think that might be why I stopped playing RE7. I had this expectation of it being like the original RE trilogy, but it's not.
The older RE games do disempower you, but only to a degree. I saw them more like how Miyazaki described Dark Souls. Tremendous challenge that you are meant to overcome, rather than something you're trying desperately to escape from. Though that is a sliding scale from RE1 to RE4 and beyond.
I think I'll give RE7 another go, with a different mindset.
Play remothered you'll love it
@@calebdunn8465 the sequel is pure ass the first one was super great
@@robertkeane9393 i liked it, wrapped things up ok
I really wish Sony would make a push for rereleasing PS2 games, stuff like this, Rule of Rose and the first 4 Silent Hill games need to be made more accessible to modern audiences, not to mention all the other obscure and hidden gems from that era.
"wow, this sounds pretty different to other Japanese horror ga..."
*Clones*
"Oh, there it is"
Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, truly hidden gems and it sucks that we won't get these types of games again (not the subject matter exactly, rather ambitious horror titles), this video was exceptionally done Euro !
Your videos always have this sense of comfort and relaxation, despite your topics and they're always so thoroughly enjoyable, keep up the amazing work !
Yes, Rule of Rose! Truly an amazing game.
PS2 survival horror games were on a whole other level. ❤️
Yess Atlus needs to bring that back
"So all these people are after her magic belly. What should we call them?"
"Belli! It's genius."
Lol.
What a cool piece of history I didn't know about. :3
This game is so brilliant. This was the first horror game I finished and it gave me chills while playing. Wish more people would play this game
I was actually trying to remember the name to this one yesterday, thanks for posting this video so I can track down a copy that isn’t ridiculously overpriced on the UK market.
hey y'all! I'm trying out a slightly different style of title/thumbnail for the video to see how it does, sorry if it's a lil too baity! :( OH AND HAPPY HALLOWEEEEEN!!
Nawww it's marketing, everyone has to market themselves. All good and a good balance .
Ah and BOO! Happy Halloween!
Nah you mean happy Jesusween oh kill me every time I have to hear some Christians say that
Where did I learn of you again? It was another RUclipsr giving you a shout out. Happy they sent me here, but I can't remember who to thank.
@@Rabbit-the-One AustinMconnell ?
I kid you not, this is my ALL TIME favorite survival horror game, and just game in general. I have never played and beaten a game so many times over as I have with Haunting Ground. I went to get the disk buffed and the person at the counter immediately stated how rare it is to see that game in someone's possession, and that if they had a spare $400, they would have bought the copy they had in store. I was lucky enough that our local GameStop had it pre-owned for $15 and my that it caught my sister's eye all those years ago. It's such a beautifully crafted and unique game, and I have yet to find one that gives me a similar enjoyment.
I would also like to say that, because of my affinity and therefore bias to the game, it becomes hard to watch video reviews. I'm constantly afraid that they're going to say something negative about it, but I've come to realize that anyone who has come across and played this game, enjoys their time with and wants a remake. The only thing keeping the hope alive that there will one day be a remake, are RUclipsrs like you keeping the conversation going and the interest piqued.
I’ve beaten this game no fewer than 20 times and it never fails to send me into hysterics that in order to get debilitas to respect women you have to drop a chandelier on him. Maybe we should try this more irl
Fun fact, Belli is the Latin word for RUN! Also Haunting Ground was originally going to be Clocktower 4.
This channel is truly special. It's much more interesting to learn about the creation process and influences than just raw analysis of game mechanics and story or whatever. I feel like I actually learned something.
Awesome video! I never grow tired of hearing people praise Haunting Ground, because it really is deserving of it. It's such a beautiful game, rich with symbolism and incredible attention to detail. There's so much thought and care put into each room, each character, and each moment. I know that games involving "hide and seek" gameplay are not for everyone, but I will never see HG as anything other than a masterpiece of horror. And I very much would love to see a modern release of it. More people should have the opportunity to play it - that can be said for so many great yet forgotten/obscure titles, honestly.
I love how this game despite being Ps2 era has such a nice art style that it doesn't feel like it's aged much at all
This game looks like it was way before its time. The amount of effort they put into the facial expressions on the main character really helps with the immersion, and that is doubly impressive when considering the era and hardware.
Haunting Ground is the best clocktower game past the first, despite being made by the same people who made Clocktower 3 (Which I love for the cheese and is fun, but it isn't a good Clocktower game).
Genuinely something which more people should be talking about, especially for being a gem of the PS2 era. I can only hope it's concepts get re-explored some day.
I've played Haunting Ground, Forbidden Siren, and Fatal Frame. Each of these games has a special place in my heart.
I have never connected the themes and style of the game to those of the films you mentioned, when it's so clear and painfully obvious now. Thank you for making this video and presenting this research, it makes me love Haunting ground even more than I did before
In the Early 2000's playing Resident Evil Remake woke me up to the world of scary movies/games and my life was changed forever. Playing Clock Tower 3 turned Capcom into my favourite developer at the time, after I saw what a weird off the wall horror game could look like. Haunting Ground has been something of a white whale for me ever since, a time capsule of 2000's Capcom horror I have yet to experience and have kind of given up on ever playing. This video was almost cathartic for me, but it did reinvigorate my desire to find and play this game somehow.
I'm also glad that you pointed out how Gialli aren't inherently horror fiction. It is simply our word for murder mysteries, and some veer even full-on into comedy. My father is a big fan of gialli, and that is exactly why he doesn't like "Suspiria" at all, since it marks Argento switching genres.
Ah I loved haunting group, was one of the more obscure, more creepy games that kinda exists in the back of your mind.
Should try to do a video on rule.of rose, the other weird early forgotten horror of that era
Oh I’d LOVEEE to play rule of rose, I’ve always dreamed of owning a physical copy but ooooof that price :( Onion Games might possibly do a port though so im waiting to see if that happens!
this is what we call a pog champ video
I've always loved the esoterism + old chemistry theme that went on through the entire game
Played it until the disc no longer worked and dying to get my hands on another copy.
This is one of my favorite games of all time, I'm so happy to see you making a video about it!
I came here to learn more about the game since I never heard of it. I loved listening to your voice as I listened. I hope they do remaster this so I can actually play it.
Omg yes I'm so glad you're talking about this game!
a incredible video for a incredible game wanted to see you talk bout haunting grounds and you did so amazingly hopefully this will help the game get more love thanks for everything as always maria ^_^
God I wish Capcom would do a port of this or revival. Same with Clock Tower and Dino Crisis. I miss this era of horror games
What a treat! I absolutely love when you discuss horror titles.
Hi found your channel by watching the Death Stranding video, loved it, glad I got here early. Keep up the great work!!
This is incredible! I've been watching for something like this and I'm no where near disappointed. Beyond my hopes, sorry for rambling just love the game and this video is epic.
Great Video as always!
And congrats on 50k!!
Cant wait for games from my teenage years to become hidden gems
Its a pleasure to hear about a game from someone who truly loves it like this
perfect Halloween viewing ~ i love how you make me appreciate these old games on a new level - and didn't know copies were so expensive and rare now, that makes me treasure my one all the more. thanks and happy Halloween!
Thanks for such an awesome video! I have just won a copy of Haunting Ground on ebay so I really cant wait to play it. Looks like an amazing game 😁
I've found yet another gold channel. Keep doing what you do!
thank you!! merry Christmas!!!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos!
Great video and happy Halloween ! 🎃
Loved the video maria!! Happy Halloween!
I remember this game but never played it...now i will thanks to you..
Oh wow, didn't realise amount of influences that went into this
haha nothing thats really officially confirmed for Haunting Ground, but the similarities are wayyy too strong
I always struggled while playing Haunting Ground. I’m terrible with a lot of horror games, and ultimately I never got very far with this one. Partly it was due to me being scared, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was an incident where Debilitas bugged out and wouldn’t leave the area I was hiding. XD I couldn’t work up the nerve to try again.
oh i really gotta replay it now :') love it immensily. what a good video! also, happy halloween!
great vid! Def checking this out for tomorrow, never heard of this game until now, very curious to see how the whole adventure stacks against the more B-horror of RE and DC I know of
Great video! Thanks for the work! :)
I love how cinematic Haunting Ground is but never really looked into the wider cinema genre so this was so cool to watch!! Wasn't allowed to watch slashers as a kid but... Nobody monitored my video game library. Looks like I've got some new things to watch! Great video ^.^
I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this before! Sweet analysis. I wanna play now.
I discovered this channel ine year ago, day of halloween. I subrscibed and I was hoping to see another retrospective of an old horror game during this halloween, and well, you didn't dissappoint! Your contents ar so good, and watching your videos improving my english, well, more or last ahah
good video, matches your portfolio.
reminds me of the now-down video by valkyrieaurora/soaps.
Could definitely use a remaster of this one day, even access on modern consoles & PC would be great.
I loved clock tower, rule of rose and haunting ground great era for survival horror in the PS2 days. I hope capcom one day will revive haunting ground maybe a full remake from the ground up. 😎♥️
i had lost the cd for this game a decade ago. i didn't realize atm that it would become a rare item
I AM ALWAYS HERE FOR HAUNTING GROUND VIDEOS. I swear this game feels like a fever dream until someone else talks about it.
I got this game as a gift almost a decade ago and I never stopped thinking about it ever since. Thanks for covering it! The more this game is heard about the better, as it really is a shame that it's almost impossible to play.
The aesthetic of PS2 games will forever remind of some of the best times in my life. Amazing video as always! I Love all things horror and I hope to have the chance to give this game a try as some point.
This was actually a great video. You have fully convinced that it's a game I want to play.
Was hoping you'd do some kind of Halloween-themed video
Was not disappointed
I rented this game as a teen and played it nonstop until I beat it and got the best ending. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and happy to see it get some deserved love here.
Great video! 😃
I'm glad I subscribed. 👍
There's something about the artstyle of these games. So good.
I also had a white shepherd as a child, so i instantly loved this game, but i did not get too far as a child, which is sad 😢
Wow you convinced me to play this!
The reason why many forgot about this game or didn’t get to popular is because Fiona was to weak mostly the panic attack and she can’t fight when there were many weapons to use from the castle. The game would have been better if she could develop to fight little bit and less panic attacks mostly when there were many enemies and whole game waiting for you. In sometimes i wanted to enjoy it more like a role game
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS GAME!
I came across this game on the ps2 around the year it came out completely by accident. I couldn't be more happier to find such a gem.
Also I always had my huey in the German shepherd skin, at the time we had a German shepherd so I was able to fully attach myself to huey and his wellbeing. It was also my first game that did such a playstyle and that concept to me was so ahead of its time.
A game we really need a remastered version for ps5.
Or any of the clock tower games for that.
I love me some slasher flicks for the October month! And I'm lucky to have a copy of this (though I paid an arm for it), and this game is truly a hidden gem. Still haven't played it, but this game looks unsettling in the best way possible. And Clock Tower on SNES is my jam!
I have never liked Resident Evil, and in general Capcom games, with only a few exceptions (from the Snes era), so when this game was releases I ignored as just another Resident Evil boredom. But everything you mention in this video makes me wanna punish that young version of me!
Fortunately, I repaired and hacked my PS2. Not only I can play my old PS1 and PS2 again, but also I can use my PC as a server an play PS1 and PS2 roms using a dualshock 4. And I know what's my next horror game (well, after I finish Silent Hill 2 for the 100th time, that is).
Thanks for your research, Maria. It was a great video.
god i remember the only thing keeping me from still playing this game was hewie
Still have my hard copy since it came out, I play it every few years or so. Still have old saves from 2010. One of my favorites ❤.
One of the best games ever made. This, Kuon and Rule Of Rose are my top favorite PS2 Horror games. I’m glad I still have them and play them to this day.
Gonna give a sub because I like the narrators voice
Capcom, ffs, bring this one to steam
Thanks for the vid
a really intresting video!
Such a great game. Great video ❤
You have to talk about Obscure next!
Damn , the soundtrack from Obscure fits perfectly at the beginning of the video, niceee
I feel lucky to have working discs for this and Kuon. Both still hold up now
I wish I could finish this game but each time I tried to pick it up my blood pressure would spike because of how tense it'd get lmao. This has been going on for 11 years now and I'm already 21.
I hope Capcom makes Haunting Ground Remake, and will be inspired by Resident Evil 4 remake and little parts from Rule of Rose and Clocktower. And even referencing horror movies! I want that game to be successful like RE4R. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plus the dog that help leon look exactly like Hewie appear as cameo in Resident Evil 4 original!? 🧌🆚️🔫👮🏼♂️🐕
4:46 AYO What is that body movement oh wowww. That's unsettling AF great work Capcom
I got this game on release day and was in love with it this clock tower fatal frame and rule of rose and trapt amazing horror games
I was trying so hard to remember the name of this game the past couple days lol. Bless
Good to see you back, schooling us savages on hidden gems.
bro this game is so frickin good
i would love to see it remade man would be one hell of an experience
I would love to see Haunting Ground get a remaster or maybe even remade in today's advanced technology. The story of this game is something that really hit home for me, so to see it brought to life again would be great; not only for it getting more publicity and attention, but also for my poor bank account.
Great video as always.
Also, have you played a game called "Before Your Eyes"? If not, I highly recommend it. It's extremely unique and beautiful and I feel like it would make for a great video analysis.
It was only forgot by the playerbase. Those who played it know how special of a horror experience this game is. This deserves a remake so everyone can enjoy it, copies of the old game cost too much
I’ve beaten this game easily over 100 times.. And clock tower 3 as well. They are my favorite games of all time and I wish they’d make more like it.
I’d love to see your take on rule of rose
This game frightened the shit out of me as a child
When this game came out I wanted to play it so bad! I finally got to rent it to try it out only to get stuck unsure how to move forward... Guides back then where little to no help but I wish I could have played more before I had to return it...
I never forgot this game, perfect cover art, memorable characters; creepy scenery, amazing graphics for that time and still looks good to this day. It was supposedly a sequel to clocktower series and I hope it gets a remastered or a sequel I mean where did Fiona go after Beli castle?
Even my ex who wasn't really into this type of game mentioned this was an impressively solid one when he watched me playing it from beginning to end years ago
I have only one thing to say about this: what a good dog!
0:29 Hey, it's that dog!
A masterpiece.
Ps2 era horror games were truly on a different level. So glad to see such praise for a great game. Really wish they'd make this more available, but I assume because of the themes capcom would be hesitant to...
