much appreciated! about to build a rack to stack two 100 gallon tanks, and i need to be absolutely sure it'll be as sturdy and weight-bearing as possible. searching for a good corner "clamp" led me here, and this video was perfect for understanding why i basically need these to achieve my end goal. thanks!
Thanks for showing how these work. It’s your channel - figure out what works for you and get inspiration from other’s channels. If someone doesn’t like it they can leave or skip.
Ya, thats the challenge to find my groove and not be a cookie cutter copy of others. The key that i struggle with is being consistent with videos. Thnx for your comment.
Hello Bubba, Here we are in Jan 2021 and found the 2017 video lacking as you described here. I find this Jan 2019 do over video has filled in all the missing pieces in the 2017 video. I appreciate what you have done here and will use the ' Tips ' you spoke of and showed here. Thank you.
I like the HF one As i did use the “ Standard “ one for years mine was a old Stanley one i found in a house after tenants moved out But the 10 dollar one is better i agree with your Harbor Freight theory as well although they are making a effort to sell higher end or professional grade tools currently. The drawback on them is HF is raising the prices as they try to compete with name brand tools you may fin at a big box store or Amazon one other HF keeper is their pocket hole jig BTW its all Aluminum construction and way cheaper than a Kreg setup i do however like the Kreg systems for screw storage convenience
I set up my two pieces of wood in a corner clamp, then I drill 8mm dowel holes all the way through the face piece and into the side rail. Then I glue 8mm dowels into the side rail's front face, wait a few minutes for the dowels to firm up, and then finally I assemble the joint and use an F-clamp to apply pressure. I have made sure the dowels are approx 5mm below the face piece, then I glue wood plugs into the dowel holes. When sanded down, the dowels add a neat feature to the box or frame. Some people would leave the dowels proud of the face piece, then saw off the surplus with a flush saw, but sanding won't hide the flutes on the side of the dowels. Wood plugs avoid that problem.
Sounds awesome i really like dowel joinery. You can use contrasting woods to enhance the joint. Not only will it be stronger it enhances the overall aesthetic. Thanks for your comment
Ive always been very disappointed with corner clamps, growing up. That were all pot metal junk. Well it's now 2020, and some things have gotten better. I grade HF tools by the country they are made in. Taiwan (great), China (Maybe), India (scrap). Rockler is a just insane on pricing. I think it's for Doctors. Many things I've purchased from there were major regrets, as I realized after use, things could use improving, and I improve them. Then realizing I could have made it better myself. This clamp looks decent, and I found your channel by searching youtube for this clamp. I have a bunch of plywood boxes to build, and I think I'll need some extra hands. At $10, this clampo does seem handy. Rockler had some 90 degree thing, that is $40 each. I admit, I bought the plastic 90's used on them when I was in a hurry. Great channel. Subscribed!
Have you thought of clamping from the top, no need to add a clamp on the other end to get your wood level as it is already level on your workbench/ table?
Nice video brother, I originally only bought two until you made that nice point about it being level on the other side. I probably would’ve ended up trying to find some sort of scrap wood as a spacer and hope that they are both the same size and thickness
Thanks so much for this. Very informative and I totally agree with you on the "one use" philosophy. I'm a beginner and have started buying basic tools at Harbor Freight.
I put them on the bottom because my work surface isnt perfectly smooth, the clamps act as a perfectly flat surface even if the surface they are on isnt.
If the work surface isn't flat on the bottom, then why not use spacers, to support the workpiece? Measuring the height at which the clamp holds the work and duplicating that with a scrap piece of material seems like a viable alternative, to me. Or combine both ideas, clamps on top and spacers beneath to accommodate the uneven surfaces?
Screws with woodworking..... I like your style 😝👍🏼 I consider myself a more advanced woodworker and tend to use Brad nails 😂 come check out my Workbench sometime
Instead of putting the clamps below the pieces you are trying to glue, put the clamp on top of the pieces would get rid of the problem of having to have an extra clamp on each end.

@@BubbasWorkbench just use CPVC and make it work from there. Worst case at least make it terminate no more then 6 inches off the ground in the mean time.

You just saved me a ton of time. Thank you for the tip about buying 4 clamps! I see the logic in that. Great video!!

Yes, a little wordy in the beginning but I see the point of it. The tips are very very useful. Thank you Bubba!
New to wood working and this video was helpful.

Hello from 2024. Great video, thanks!
Thank you for the informative video!
Harbor Freight's own price points for their tools are categorized as Good, Better, Best (based on their weekly flyers).
Nice vedio👍
Great video thank you!:)
Good information and clearly explained
thank you for your kind comment
Have you thought of clamping from the top, no need to add a clamp on the other end to get your wood level as it is already level on your workbench/ table?
Yes someone asked me that before, my bench top isnt the smoothest the clamps actually provide a flatter surface
@Mama C yes, i work with pallet wood a lot too, and these definitely with that
Nice video brother, I originally only bought two until you made that nice point about it being level on the other side. I probably would’ve ended up trying to find some sort of scrap wood as a spacer and hope that they are both the same size and thickness

Ya its a good place to start, wont break the bank, spend the money on the wood.
I'm wondering why you didn't use a longer length clamp to squeeze the butt-joint together tightly, and then tighten the corner clamp completely?
Forget about adding the other clamps underneath and just put the clamp on the topside of the corner not the bottom.
I put them on the bottom because my work surface isnt perfectly smooth, the clamps act as a perfectly flat surface even if the surface they are on isnt.
@@BubbasWorkbench Ahh, OK my bench is flat and clean.

Instead of putting the clamps below the pieces you are trying to glue, put the clamp on top of the pieces would get rid of the problem of having to have an extra clamp on each end.
You are correct. The reason i did it this way is my workbench is not smooth so puting clamps on bottom gives a more stable level surface.
