    Thanks for the brilliant video. What I like about the Thumpers is that you can hear `engineering in action' if you sit in the power car ..... both the Diesel engine and the traction motors.
    Similarly I would always sit in the power car of the BR Class 319 ...... great sound of the electronic power control to the DC motors on third rail and, when on Overhead 25kV supply, the sound of the transformer added in !! (many videos of these on RUclips if interested). My Anorak appears to be on full view haha.

    Never ridden one of these trains but looks to be like riding British rail trains when I was a kid in the late 70s-Mid 80s: Noisy, smoky, that distinctive diesel fumes smell but a lot of fun! I only knew about these units when they featured in a program called UK's worst railways in a somewhat derogatory way in 2004 and have loved them ever since!

    awesome footage Matthew gotta love that sweet music which is now sadly gone and will prob disappear when the 2015 sandite ends even though i heard that sound for the first time face to face in portadown during the 2014 sandite it was the nicest next to 082 and 112

      I think the sounds of a 80 beat the sound of 112 & 082.
