And you could have a buildup of flammable residue on the inside of the chimney, which could cause the chimney to catch on fire. Chimney fires are one of the leading causes of house fires. I know all of this because my fireplace was doing the same thing so I researched it Just have to get someone honest who will just clean your chimney and not try to rebuild the whole thing for $1000s. They can send a video camera up inside your chimney to check for damage. So if they say you need a new chimney lining, make them show you video evidence. And if they say the entire chimney needs to be rebuilt, get a second opinion from a builder that you trust!

Saffron, I work for an oil company they do emergency collections, so you can purchase small drums that fit in your car / will drop off slightly larger deliveries by van if its an emergency, we're in Scotland but try smaller companies they might be willing to do the same xx
I'd definitely get rid of oil heating. It is not good for the environment either. You should turn to geothermal heating. Also getting rid of oil heating will add to the worth of your house. Also please have an extensive security system! Love ya!
