- I was unable to locate info on how to solve my problem, other than the one video by Joe K who shows how to replace the gauge... which lead me to just go ahead and give it a red hot crack! I managed to do it in quite a few less steps than Joe K's method though. Enjoy!
I was able to get to the clogged area on my pressure gauge by just going in from the top without removing the gauge from the machine itself, just disconnecting the tubing and using a needle on it in place. A curved needle (like is used in surgery) was especially useful. Hardest part was ensuring a good seal on the tubing again. This eliminated the tricky part of getting the nuts and washers off without losing them!

I just tried this method so I wouldn’t have to fiddle with the nuts and washers, but how did you get a good seal on the tubing piece? I just secured mine back into place and then secured it back with the clip and now it’s leaking. 🙁
@@melanieelliott3467 Sorry to hear that! I hope you figured something out. I didn't do anything special, just shoved the pipe back in and put the clip back onto it.
@@melanieelliott3467 You likely are missing the #007 o-rings that seal the lines
Out of all the videos on this topic; it wins hands down. The pressure gauge had the same problem of the top being covered by scale. I used a knitting needle to scrape the scale off and then bend a needle to enter the gauge top. Did not removed the gauge. Set the machine back up and bingo. All went well and the gauge went back to normal operations. Thank you

Brilliant thank you, small modification ... by removing 2 screws at top of front panel, the front panel slides up 4cm and then tilts outwards making access to those 2 nuts and washers waaaay easier without fear of dropping things inside the machine. Cleaned the gauge inlet, all perfect again, thank you thankyou.

I was experiencing the exact same issue on my Breville Infuser, probably easier to get the gauge in and out than a double boiler, but still fiddly. Gauge was gunked up and works perfectly now after unclogging it. Thanks for the video.
One thing I would add, there are two screws on the boiler, take them out and the boiler can be moved to one side enough to reinstall the pressure gauge nuts.

I believe I have this issue, too.
I'm really tempted to take it off, squirt some descaler inside through the pipe fitting, let it sit for a spell, and do my best to flush the gunk out.

Turns out the pressure guage was fine.
The channel in the shower head unit itelf, that leads to the pressure guage was full of scale, so I had to change the shower head unit.
A pain to change, because you have to remove almost everything to get it out 😅

Thoroughly enjoyed this video especially the southern American accents. As I’m from North Carolina. Great video as I am in the process of possibly buying one used from someone who has a similar model with the same problem and I wanted to see what the fuss was to replace it.

My infuser has done this a number of times and I have been able to un stick it with white vinegar. Half filled the water tank with hot water and vinegar and ran the clean cycle.
I also wonder why that one tube gets so sticky! 😂 I assume it's coffee oils as it's the pressure release that has coffee sludge, but how the oils climb up the hose is a mystery. Great video!

Great job! Very steady hand! Cool hands and skillful fingers. Somehow water got into my pressure gauge? I could not buy a new gauge or how could I dry out the gauge without replacing the new one. I did use hair dryer but the water came right back. Please advise! Thanks do much.

I’m really not sure if the blockage was scale build up which came up from the boiler or not. I don’t know if it’s the hot boiler water that comes to the pressure gauge. But descaling is just the removal of scale build up inside the boiler, so it wouldn’t remove any from the gauge. This is a very old original version of the BDB, so it’s probably done quite well to last this long without any worse problems by now. The only part I’ve replaced is the group head gasket which needs to be done once a year or so.

Nooo, the model I have the pressure gauge outlet comes out the bottom rather than the top which makes it pretty much impossible
Nice work Glen, re attaching the washer... I would try using some Blu-Tack on the end of an unmagnetised flathead tool to mount first then do your magnetised screwdriver approach with the nut. Anyway I was wondering if you entertained the idea of investigating the dismantle of the guage to see what else may be going on?

No sorry, when I saw the blocked hole came clear with a little probing I decided that was it for my investigation! 😁

I have an Infuser, and totally disassembled another, for parts. And yes, the parts machine gauge had a little calcium blockage at the input opening, like the one repaired by Mr. Edwards. Different gauge, but same repair.
Oh I see, sorry I wasn’t aware of the Breville machine called the “infuser”. I thought you were asking about another part of the Dual Boiler machine. 👍🏼
Yes I’m sure the pressure gauges that they all use would be very similar if not exactly the same in the way they work.
Glen I did you one better and did the repair without ever removing the gauge! Just simply opened machine, removed the fastening clip and shoved a vinegared paper clip in and out of the opening a few times, getting the fastening clip back on the gauge was the hardest part due to limited working area. Works like a charm! These machines require work but are so worth it.

Oh man... If that's the scale in your valve, imagine the scale in your insides mate. Do yourself, and your family a favor. Get a water softener for your house. It's $10 of salt a month for a better life, and much better tasting coffee!

Good luck buying any machine that will last 10+ yrs with no maintenance or repairs mate.
I am just fixing my Breville Barista. it’s about 10 years old. At least 5 coffees a day. Serviced once in 2017 (just seen the sticker inside). It still works, except for the pressure indicator. I’d say fair value after all.
