Joan Ferguson is the greatest fictional character and villain of all time in my opinion. There have been many great characters and villains I've seen over the years, but they all pale in comparison to Ferguson. She is not a monster and she certainly isn't a psychopath. She was a victim of horrendous physical, psychological and emotional abuse at the hands of her evil sadistic father that ended up not only making it difficult for her to have any real friends and form meaningful connections, but it also shaped her world, her beliefs, and views of what she should do She was brought up as a soldier more than a normal little girl. The reason why she loves being in control I believe is because it makes her not only feel powerful and good about herself, it's because she doesn't want to be a victim like she was with her father. I love Ferguson so much for these reasons - she incredibly intelligent, she's also incredibly strong physically, the way she adapts and survives to any situation given to her even if her plans fail, and also her determination to succeed against the odds. Ferguson's arc is the best story I've ever seen and for a character like her, I've never seen anyone quite like her before and many never will again This is all thanks to Pamela Rabe for her phenomenal acting and giving Ferguson so much range, depth and sympathy for her. Her and the writers as well. Great video by the way
I feel so bad for Joan. People do things they wouldn't do had they not gone through trauma. It never excuses the bad deeds done, but it makes you feel bad for them and empathize. I love Joan's character. Just because she had so much depth.
This is so good its like a series trailer. I really loved that we got such devastating insight into what nade Joan the psychopath she is. So often you get a 1 dimensional , cardboard cut out villain, ( with the only other exception being Mads Mikkelson's Hannibal). Pamela Rabe was mesmersising . I did hear a prequel, on Joan before Wentworth , was being considered....
I used to hate Joan, but then when I saw her struggling with her dark past, little by little I realized that she was a victim herself. If I were one of her victims, I wouldn't be able to forgive her, but I'd still feel so bad for her :( . It that fucked up?

My favorite moment is looking at the window and only one Joan looks away....
