This was one of my favourite games growing up. I remember at around age 10 after playing it for a couple of months, I could clock it with just one goblin as dark and one knight as light in under 15 minutes every time./ Still have the working hardware and floppy with Archon on it and cracked it out a few years ago and found it so easy to drop into the old rhythms.
I think this, dark souls, gta 5 , red dead redemption, indiana jones, and war thunder are my top favorites. This is so nostalgic what a blast from the past
I used to play Archon a lot back in my day. Brilliant game but I could beat them all with a single Basilisk/Unicorn. Damn Phoenix could surprise me though.
This game was amazing for its kind of glatiatorial combat. It would still work today probably if it was made with a modern engine and graphics but the same concept.
Was a great fun 2 player game for the time, but after a while it became apparent what a large advantage the dark side had. Their fast weak shots were way better than the light's slow strong shots. The dragon was stronger than the Djin. The Phoenix was weak against everything but goblins.
First time seeing gameplay of this (born in 91) but I can totally see the appeal. Strategy/chess like and a fighting/combat game all in one. Seems way ahead of its time. I hope to one day be able to try it in it’s original form but for now I’m def gunna try this on emulator!
I was born in '87, so not too long before you. I remember the daycare I went to for a few years had a "game room" full of Commodore 64s and I played the absolute hell out of this game in the early 90s. It was totally ahead of its time and I'd be down to seen a modernized version come out, however unlikely that actually is to happen 😅
One of my favorite games when I was younger, but I just realized that I never really understood what the game was about. I had no idea that the "King" could do shit, but then again I was like 4-6 with no idea what english was.
I used to play the Amiga version until I could defeat the whole enemie's team with just one Goblin. But I could not win the the C64 version. It was incredibly hard, like twice as fast and the AI was better.
Ein für damalige Zeiten absolut interessantes, durchdachtes Spiel. Ich würde mich selbst heute noch über eine Neuauflage von Archon mit entsprechender Grafik und ggf. Weiterentwicklung mega freuen
@@thomasfrohlich4320 I'm very sorry to hear about your friend but it is a great memory to have of him. Funnily enough I have an old friend who I used to play this game with a lot who also died of cancer several years ago.
It’s an 8-bit machine. Amazing graphics was not its strength. (Same goes for Atari, NES.) At least it wasn’t limited to 4 colors and going “boop” like IBM PCs and Macs of that era .
This version's animation and graphics were superior to both the PC and Apple versions. And the music (albeit slower) was basically better as well. Loved this game. 😁 My new novel has some heavy influences which were drawn from these kinds of epic 'light vs. dark' struggles.
Legendary gameplay, legendary music, legendary box art, legendary company. Truly one of the greatest of all times.

OMG the dreaded battle of two Phoenixes...
Haha they were always so annoying.
Two Banshees were worse
I almost forgot about this! Archon was one of my favourite C64 games. 😁
This brings back a LOT of memories.
Sehr cool das Spiel nach so vielen Jahren wieder zu sehen und zu hören 😊 war zu C64 Zeiten mein lieblings Spiel
At least once per month, for absolutely no reason, Archon's music pops up in my head. :D
Me too.
So many memories!! Mostly of my brother getting pissed and walking out... all great memories.
The only game that my mom wouldn't allow us to play together
Beautiful memories.. hard battles with friend in this game. Even Joystick Quick Shot 1 couldn't stand it!!

this game brings back memories
back when EA was good
M.U.L.E. , WORMS and 1 other (?) where the first games released by EA.
Back when EA was "Electronic Artists", not... Whatever it is now.

emulator is needed
Cool and original game. 1983.. Pfff.. Im getting old.

That's because you sucked with the uni.
the first game on home computer that caught my attention

Words can't express how i love this game.
I also want to emulate it on UAE Amiga emulator but i can't get anything working on UAE.
What an awesome game

The AI wasn't always brilliant, but it was absurdly accurate on diagonal shots.
omfg this brings me back!!!!.................................. holy shit!!!

How cool would this be if it got remastered like the old Bard’s Tale games?
i remember whenever my big brother played this game the intro music scared me
I questioned your every move.
Ach, the nostalgia
It's funny how my memory of this game does not match with the reality of how it looks today. In my mind it was state of the art visuals and sound.
I used to play this game with a former friend of mine. He died on prostate cancer at the age of 18. I miss him and those times...

I got so good at this game I could win the whole thing with one unicorn. I guess I spent too much time in my basement in those days. Ha!
Unicorn was definitely busted, lol.
This combination of fighting plus strategy is the foundation/inspiration for modern MOBAS, imo.

They could have made the graphics a lot better.....
Fun game, though the AI was never any good. And that's even without TAS.
Was all about 2-player.
that battle at 6:52
Chess Kombat anyone??!
bst game ever! lol
how can i play this shit nowadays?
It's on Steam 😊
Dark was superior. The Phoenix on the light side sucks.
