Can you talk more about how far out you are casting? It’s hard to tell where you are placing your bait.
In the waves. Waves produce fresh bait in the sand. Fish the incoming tide 2 hrs before high tide. I was raised surf fishing in Southern California. Get a tide book and fish the INCOMING TIDE. Fish move up with the rising tide. 😊

Nice catches! Word to wise careful in the surf. Those wader boots will fill up like cement shoes and the rip currents can be relentless when you’re face first in the water. Not funny, been there. That’s how people lose their lives. Fish on tight lines 👍

Awesome video! Have you tried changing out the trebles for single replacement hooks ? i’m really curious if your catch would change or if you’d see less foul hooking.
yes i have. quite a few more missed perch for sure. also, yes less foul hooking.
@@Hook2Cook Thanks ! I’ve switched all mine out , but haven’t caught anything that way. Thats probably because I’m not good at fishing yet! Also i’m pier fishing so it’s mostly striper and halibut inside SF bay till August. I’m saving for some surf fishing gear so I can try using everything you are teaching me at the perch contest this October.

How does that SST compare to the Hawaiian or Rockaway SP? Think it has enough backbone to throw 2oz lures? 1.5 oz?
You might be able to get away with casting above the recommended lure weights on any rod... for a while. eventually microfractures will occur and the rod will disintegrate. the SST should be a jerkbait rod or light carolina rig only. the HC and SP are the ones rated for up to 2 or 3 oz.
curious but the wave look rough at times.. have you ever got hit my a big wave that u were not expecting and u fall down..?
yes, but it doesn't happen often as we watch the wave power closely these days. better safe than sorry
What beach are you fishing at?

Think the hooks are good , a good test it put the hook in your leg , set the drag yard on it … think it’s better than you and the fish combined.. they can handle it …just not you
Horrible fish handling skills. Pregnant fish should be let go right away. Why bring it all the way back up the bank?
