  • Isaiah 53 famously contains the clearest portrait of Jesus in the Jewish Bible, the Hebrew Scriptures. The passage is so clear that in past times, some Rabbis cautioned against reading it, lest someone become 'confused'. This is part 1, a dive into this powerful passage.
This series on Messianic Prophecy in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) examines those passages predicating the coming of a Messiah and Savior. Each part is 27 minutes, and was filmed in 2020 by our friends at GLC, God's Learning Channel at their studios in Texas. They have a fine ministry, and deserve your prayer and support. Their contact info is on the videos.
Mottel Baleston is a Jewish believer in Yeshua/Jesus, the Jewish Messiah. He was born into a Jewish home in New York City and attended Jewish and public schools there. He came to faith in Messiah Jesus after reading the Messianic prophecies in the Jewish Bible. He is Director of the "MESSENGERS OF THE NEW COVENANT", communicating the Good News of Messiah to the Jewish community, discipling Jewish believers and educating Christians concerning the Jewish roots of their faith. He has served as Messianic Rabbi of a Congregation in New Jersey, as well as a Hebrew class instructor. His articles appear in Ariel Magazine, and his teaching videos on several online venues.

Messengers” carries on a work of sharing Messiah Jesus within the Jewish community using the principle of 1st Cor. 9:20, seeing Jewish people come to faith and doing basic discipleship of Jewish believers. We’ve seen many Jewish people come to faith in our Messiah. We also educate Christians about the Jewish roots of faith in Jesus, help prepare them to reach their Jewish friends with the Good News of Messiah and fight anti-semitism by correcting mis-information about the Jewish people.

I appreciate your courage. You are completely different of those who always oppose themself to the Holy Spirit, about which Stephen spoke in Acts 7. I keep hope that, through your example many could Turn into Christ and the true church in Israël and elsewhere across the world. Thank you si much.

so awesome! I always loved Isaiah 53. So wonderful, I cry every time . One of my favorite passages. Y'shua bless you!! Thank you! Baruch haba b'shem Adonai! I had read about Lyons some years ago. Horrible! Like the Spanish Inquistion, very upsetting. There were Jews in Sicily and Italy who were forced to change their names and go with the Catholic faith, or be killed or expelled from the country.

Another excellent episode! Yes, the Inquisition and the Eastern European pogroms were not done by real Christians, and yet let's not forget the real antisemitism of one of the heroes of Christianity, Reformer Martin Luther! He started well by loving Jews and trying to evangelise them by persuasion and not by force, but when that failed, he turned violently against them at least in his writings which are said to have inspired Hitler. So sad, and so incomprehensible.

I can’t see how Martian Luther could be a hero with the demonic hatred in his heart for Jewish people.

The curious thing is that the RAMBAM Maimonides believed that this passage is messianic as seen in his epistle to Yemen

Is it true that this passage in Isaiah is never read in the synagogues but skipped over?

Hi, the short answer is that in a traditional Sabbath morning/Saturday morning mainstream Orthodox Jewish worship service, there are a number of liturgical Bible readings that are typically done. In the annual cycle of readings in an Orthodox synagogue, they will chant through the entire five books of Moses, from a handwritten Torah scroll, and do it in the original Hebrew. Each week they typically chant through approximately 4 or 5 chapters. This is done aloud as a main part of the service. Once the Torah reading is concluded, a second reading called the “Haftarah” is done, this usually takes the form of approximately 20 verses from a passage in the Prophets which is somehow related by theme to that week’s Torah portion. This custom of readings from the Prophets was instituted by the Rabbis over 2000 years ago. So if only 20 verses or so are being read out of the Prophets each week, one has to be very selective. If you think this through, this means that most of the prophetical writings are not chanted in a liturgical way in the course of a year before the same cycle repeats. However, before one starts to criticize about some imagined neglect; recognize that most churches don’t even publicly read 5% of the Bible portions from the pulpit in a typical year. - Now, to shed more light on this it is true that many Rabbis long ago warned against beginners reading Isaiah 53 lest they become “misled”. So could it be that Isaiah 53 is actually not included in the cycle of Haftarah readings intentionally, and the reason is because of concern about people recognizing it as a prophecy that finds its best fulfillment in Yeshua of Nazareth? I can think of a number of Mosaic Torah portions to which Isaiah 53 can be thematically related very well. As a Jewish believer in Jesus the Jewish Messiah, I am fully convinced from the text itself that Isaiah 53 has strong reference to Messiah Yeshua alone. Be well, Mottel

Stiill today you have idiots who even support Hamas; mostly in Romanists/Eastern Heresodoxs/Syrian factions, other cults like Anderosnites, tons of Sabatarians, Seven Day Adventists, but even among Christians those influenced by Amilenialism, Partial Preterism due to pride they would rather wish that Israel would be destoryed as is pose denager to their theology as it's confirming rival eschathology for premilenialial protestant perusasion.
