This is the best comment I've ever had lol! My wife and I laughed so much when you mentioned my shiny scalp! ;) thanks for watching man... I'll keep that scalp shiny in the next one too! ;)
Yeah - strings are pretty important when it comes to slap... the newer the better really. I change mine about once every two weeks depending on hw many gigs I'm doing. Glad you're enjoying the lessons!
Thanks a million, Scott! You are a GREAT teacher! have been playing 30 years in famous bands in Greece as a hobby, and most I know is from studying hard alone. Now with your help I learn new things just for my amusement! Thanks again!
I'm a proud member now! It's like 3:21am I'm at work don't have my bass. I just joined around 2:50am....just reading through what I'm offered is overwhelming! I'm not a Begginer, I'm a old school bass player 57yrs old, I've played professionally back in my hey day, with some famous people. I was considered a very good player then. I'm a self taught pocket player, and really lack technique and theory knowledge ( lhave some not enough ). I quit playing for over a decade, and recently started playing again I'm actually getting a few good gigs but not the level I was on before. It wasn't necessary in my day to have the chops and knowledge needed today. I need this to get to the next level. I'm excited about this, there's a lot of people my age ( 50's are the new 30's ) going back to school or taking courses to improve their skill level to get better jobs. So I'm excited... I guess I'm saying all of this so you can REALLY feel the gratitude in my THANK YOU!
Ahhh thanks for the kind words man! Yeah - if people gave a lot more instead of just taking the world would be a better place! Thanks for watching man! S ;)
Excellent bassist, and an even better teacher. I needed a teacher like you years ago. I am a self taught hard knocks player. You make it look so easy, but I know it takes a lot of hard work.I have never had a need to play slap bass, but it is nice to learn it as another tool .Being able to play all styles of music , and being solid at it keeps me playing. No music on the spot, and no idea what song will be called next or what style of music. All style bands.
You're the most amazing teacher, Scott! I find your videos more of like a buried treasure; I keep on learning everyday. Thanks for making this lesson a lot easier. Keep on helping more aspiring bassists like me! :)
absolutely love the lesson. I have played guitar for 30 years and have started playing bass for my son. i am eating this stuff up! Thanks for the great lessons.
Excellent lesson, which has been especially helpful to me when watched and replayed (alot) on 0.5x speed. I recommend that to anyone who thinks this lesson may be a bit fast.
Great teacher! Highly recommended for almost all bass players. Dave is doing so friendly and easy in an very interesting way. He really wants you to play better. Enjoyable!
Well done. For those that have not been to Scott's site.....GO!!!! I have sent him a small donation....then purchased the play along series, I have a years worth of REALLY cool stuff for less than the cost of a good set of strings. [Salute] Scott Well done
You just made my day Scott! Thanks a lot! I thought I knew every way for percussive triplets. Turns out I was wrong and I can't stop smiling looking forward to use it! I've been watching nearly all of your stuff and learned A LOT by now.... But never clicked THiS vid, Being convinced it couldn't include new stuff for me. Thank you man!
You are great at breaking down the techniques in a way thats both easy and fun to practice, ive been working at slap for over a year a half now and you just solved my Triplet questions
I think being aware that many people use it too is great. If you're aware of something it's you can take action to prevent t happening, while if yoy were unaware... well you can guess what that means lol! Thanks for watching man! ;)
Scott, you 'a bad boy' man. You a great teacher, seriously. I've been watching you videos for a while and you've always broken down don't stuff that I've been curious about... Thanks man
this took me about a month and a few weeks to master, but it's really fun and automatically used now that i learned it, it was what i was missing from my techs cause i always have a triplet feel i want to use, now that i've mastered it i can use it for an entire measure just hitting octaves putting a percussive thwack between the root and octave, i'm looking forward to if you do more slap bass lessons, cause i get alot more from your tuts then i do from others, thanks for the wonderful tut
It's really great how you've done so many videos on scales and theory and everything else apart from slap before you released these last two videos. I definitely used to be 'one of those kids who would stand up and slap the stuff out of a bass without knowing what he was doing'...not anymore!
you are amazing sir! ive been dying to learn slap bass the right way and you made this possible for me. with your slap bass beginner lesson video, i have learned so much from it and picked up on slap bass so well so far so thank you so much!
A FANTASTIC LESSON! finally someone explained why my slaps were so bad. the ghost notes! !!! thank you so much!!!! now I need to fix my bass and go on, mastering it! :]
Thanks, Scott. I've been a bassist for years and never truly understood a lot of the art of slap bass. I have a bit of knowledge on it, but this is very informative. I appreciate your openness about the tricks of the art. A lot of folks would rather maintain their secrecy and let others guess at it. A good musician with the right attitude is willing to help, however.
Good Work-1 of the best on the web. You really improved my playing after a few views. I'm a bass player, then guitar player(for 40 years) now getting back into bass. Thanks for your help-JB
You're an amazing teacher. I love the way you explain the rifts that you have. I'm self taught and I had no idea just how far off I actually was with my technique. You really do great work.
Yep... it takes a while to get that looseness. for instance, I can't do it with my left hand... I could if I did it for long enough though. It's just a case of doing over and over again over a few weeks so that movement becomes super relaxed and natural. Thanks for watching! ;)
The following is no cheat it is my desire to articulate my respect for what Scott is doing or trying to do: I am a studied bass player, who took a pretty long break due to work. I recently joined SBL and I have to say that it is superb - go for scott, he really knows what (!) and how (!!) to teach - and I can guarantee you this: This is a rare combo!! If you take his advices seriously, you will become a bass player! I am really thankful for what he does.
Sir you are very good at explaining techniques I appreciate this very much as I have found this particular technique elusive but your video has clarified for me exactly what I need to be practicing in order to get that particular feel thank you very much
Thanx alot man...Had a stroke in 95' but my right hand is coming back:-) I love your tech man, and would pay for your videos...I have played jazz/fusion alot of slapping, thumping and ghost notes hammering...
I've always wanted to know how to do that triplet technique and this is such a cool and simple lesson with a funky riff! Thanks a mil Scott, really appreciate it and love your lessons and the SBL academy! cheers
I play guitar as my "main" instrument, but look to many drummers, keyboard players, and serious bassists for new techniques and flavors to add to my playing/writing (I play all of these instruments, and compose/jam on them equally in various styles). I just wanted something new to learn this morning, so I looked up "ghost notes bass lesson" on RUclips, and found this video. This triplet technique is the final piece of the puzzle for me in getting that percussive sound out of my fretted basses (also something I just recently got into on my 9 string guitar) so, thanks for this lesson and the funky practice exercise. I just subscribed.
Brotha you give me so much inspiration with the lessons. I'm playing through pain at the moment due to neuropathy and carpal tunnel. After surgery I'll be full immersed!
I guess many people asked you about that glove already.. I Was wondering about it too but I guess now I get why use it...it's a good way for getting that damp sound...
The ghost notes are THE secret to most busy sounding slap riffs. Thanks for tuning in man!
This is the best comment I've ever had lol! My wife and I laughed so much when you mentioned my shiny scalp! ;) thanks for watching man... I'll keep that scalp shiny in the next one too! ;)
Lol balls.
This was like the best slap lesson I've ever seen. It's clear and functional. You earned a new subscriber.
Yeah - strings are pretty important when it comes to slap... the newer the better really. I change mine about once every two weeks depending on hw many gigs I'm doing. Glad you're enjoying the lessons!

You're the most versatile bassist I've ever seen. I've been following you for a while now.
I use medium gauge. So - not super light, but not heavy either. Thanks for watching man! ;)
By far one of the most interesting videos about bass techniques I´ve ever seen. Thanks Scott!
Thanks Scott for such a well presented explanation of slapping the bass using triplets.
I'm a wannabe bassist and this shed SO much light! Thank you.
Thx again, Scott. You're the best. Cheers from Brazil.

'Let the Durka Durka flow inside you.'
Great lesson Scott, and one tasty sounding bass setup!
Thanks :)

I was scrambled from a severe electric shock (14.4kv) many years ago and Scott's teaching techniques have helped me a LOT.
7:40 - 8:22 Great little nugget of advice.
That reverb is nice. Helps fill the sound without being intrusive
