    Enjoy your channel. I have a 3 ton Bryant unit installed 1983. Works great never needed any refrigerant added and original capacitor. Hard to make decision to replace if the statement " they All leak" describes new equipment.

    That gauge trick (to check schraders) is genius!

  • @mattliebenau9083
    @mattliebenau9083 2 года назад +8

    Good idea on the gauge to check the Schraders. I’d definitely steal it if I was still in the biz. 😁 I remember one time the install manager at one company I worked for bought a bunch on the cheapest 0% silver solder he could get for the install crews. I bought a couple of tubes of “good” solder and spent the summer following the installers around and fixing leaks. 🙄

    28 year Hvac mechanic here! Love the channel my brother! Those dye tests drive me crazy. Everything white lights up green! Haha. Ever notice the p traps are a deeper green? Weird. I use my sniffer a lot. Have great success with it! Appreciate your knowledge!!

    If txv isnt properly torqued on installation then it will leak installer related. If the o ring isnt put on txv it will leak installer related. Txv is always installed diring install and its inside the coil box. Im 200 % sure it was the txv leaking. Installer related.

    I wanted to see where it was leaking from, A bad coil? Line rubbed into? Leaking valve? Don't leave us hanging

    • @kingpins9
      @kingpins9 2 года назад +2

      It’s the coil. That’s why he said he was going to get one. If it were a valve there wouldn’t be dye in the drain

    lots of coils have been leaking.. not sure if the higher pressure of r410a is the cause or bad braze joints from factory.... but equipment is not made like it was years ago... poor work habits another cause... not many people take pride in their work anymore.

    Do the Trane units have an unused Schrader port on the indoor coil? I've seen a couple evaporators with those ports on 'em leak through the Schrader enough to present the scenario you're seeing with that one. Just a thought... Good troubleshooting as always, Ted!

    Have you considered having your installers put a small piece of the pipe insulation between those refrigerant pipes to keep them from rubbing? As a homeowner, if I saw that, I'd probably do just that.

    It's frustrating that you read but don't respond to any comments. Maybe you should pull the lid and see. You don't know if it is the txv. Your videos had example of one that was really loose and your tightening it fixed the leak. Testing shrader core with a gauge is stupid. You said it is likely a small leak. It won't leak measurable in 5 min and stay for months at 68psi. And your previous tech couldn't find it? You say it's big, but you didn't sniff it. And why waste our time for a serial? This is your liability crap. No one cares about the stupid serial.
