  • Orediggers have the best fight song in all of college. Since the 1870s, Orediggers have been shaking their fists at Boulder and celebrating what it means to be a helluva helluva helluva helluva helluva engineer! (And yes, we were using this fight song before the other ramblin' wrecks 🐝)

The full original version is even more kickass!
I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three hundred pounds,
The college bell to mix it in and clapper to stir it round.
Like every honest fellow, I take my whisky clear,
I'm a rambling wreck from Golden Tech, a helluva engineer.
And if I had a daughter, I'd dress her up in green,
I'd send her up to Boulder to Coach the football team,
But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do,
He'd yell "To hell with Boulder," like his daddy used to do.
Now here we have the mining man, in either hand a gun.
He's not afraid of anything, and he's never known to run.
He dearly loves his whisky, and he dearly loves his beer,
He's a shooting, fighting, dynamiting mining engineer.
If you want to gear the planets that revolve around the sun,
We'll do the job up nicely, and we'll only call it fun,
And if you want a bridge to Mars, or a ten-foot shaft to hell,
We're the engineers of a thousand years and we'll do the job right well.
The Miner's "M", a symbol of a brand of mining men,
Whose courage knocks the mountains down and builds them up again,
No matter in this paydirt world orediggers choose to roam,
Mines is always with them, The "M" still stands for home.

Me: the editor of the 1970 Prospector yearbook- I photographed and put an American Flag in the cover; the photographer for the school Oredigger newspaper. then a happy, successful, Colorado School of Mines graduate, 1971, BS, Geophysical Engineering, and a member and officer of Sigma Nu. Worked for Shell Oil in Michigan, Conoco in Ponca City, OK, and then Houston, with CAGC- a 4 company partnership, dedicated to exploration and production offshore Louisiana. (C: Conoco, A: Arco: Atlantic Ridgefield, G: Getty Oil, C: Cities Service).. , then Fairfield Industries, and then Timko, Lindahl and Schweikhardt, Inc., then founded Baird Petrophysical International, Inc. - in 1978. and co-founded PetroDevelopment Partners, LP and ETROA, LLC. We had employees that ran up to 140 qualified to do the assigned work, seismic data processing, seismic interpretation, computer programming, data acquisition in the field on land and offshore. Now I am applying - dedicating - the skills and technology we used to discovery oil and gas to search for missing persons and donating my time to the families and to Texas EquuSearch.

School Of Mines had it first >> In 1879, The Colorado School of Mining, began using a version of the song for its fight song, calling it “The Mining Engineer”
      • The first arrangement of the song as "The Ramblin' Wreck" at Georgia Tech is attributed to Mike Greenblatt, the first official band leader, at Tech, in 1910.
